The news on Radio 4 at 5pm this evening had an interview about petrol shortages in Greece.  It appears there has been a Customs strike for 4 or 5 days and fuel is running short especially on some of the islands.
Anyone know how things are in Corfu?  Is the strike long term?  Will the buses keep running?  etc. etc.
Best wishes
Pat

We were able to fill up our car in arillas today. I'm told that all the petrol stations in and around sidari are closed. However, I haven't been there so can't confirm that.

We were told this afternoon, that the dispute was resolved, and that the tanker drivers had returned to work, but who knows how long it may take to bring more fuel into Corfu.

We did see buses still running to aqualand, so not sure how thing stand for tour operators running coaches to and from airport.

Thanks for that swift update Maggie.  Isn't the forum wonderful - someone is always ready to help with answers to all our questions.

We were a large family sometimes a dozen or so, with children, we went every year for 12 years, are you the sandy who joined us up the bar at the rainbow? My husband and myself were there early september last year

Sandy x

That's me...with Lauren and Ben. And you must have known Michelle and all the rest of our crowd? About a dozen families went the same two weeks - or thereabouts - for years to the Rainbow. Now the children are all grown up....

Yeah children all grown up, our youngest is almost there, can't remember you with children, last time we came as a large group was 2004

Morning folks, just been on the Agni Site reading about fires on Corfu in the Loutses area i just hope they manage to get them under control as the fires in Zante last year decimated the pine forests on the north of the island
The smoke was that thick when we were on a trip to Navagio it blocked out the sun and the temperature plummeted and it actually felt cold

I can remember in the late 90s i think, there was a fire on a piece of land the other side of the stream behind irenes apartments. I got quite big at 1 point.
The anthis family were very concerned, the reps had to make sure there was nobody in perry and jimmys as it got quite close. Glad to say it was put out by the locals with water cannons and the fire patrol.

I have just read Neil's first post on this topic ARILLAS TODAY
Just take a look.

August the 8th 2007
QuoteI have just been to Arillas and it is "Heaving". It's also Heaven, as we all know, but it was also "Heaving" today. I struggled to find a parking place.
3 pm in the afternoon and Brouklis still busy. Costas on the beach open? The first time I have seen them open at Lunchtime for a few years. Everywhere busy except the unfortunate Malibu & Coconut which were empty. But I'm sure they will get a lot of business tonight!. The beach was packed. People everywhere!
I've never seen Arillas in August and, so I'm told, a lot of Italians and Greeks take their holidays at this time. Brighton beach "eat yer heart out!"
It's good to see though but a bit of an eye opener for naive ole me. Always thought Arillas was so laid back having only been here May & late September.
Cheers

Do you have an update for three years on Neil

Eggy

Well John

I went to Arillas this afternoon for a few pics but couldn't find anywhere to park!
( The Punto wouldn't fit in the wheelie bin )

So I guess it is still heaving for me but still heaven to many.

I will get some August photos very soon though.

Three years on and the magic is still there.

Cheers

I seem to remember a recent posting from Jo W saying she would do anything for a bit of attention. And Jo W, you lil 'ole tinker you, in another posting you made me feel like I'm neglcting my duties as " On The Spot" reporter.
So, why go to a Supermarket when you have your legs slapped with a wet mackerel when you're here - (I may give the mackerell to Mr.W to carry out the punishment!)

John R is also guilty for making those nostalgic remarks about this Arillas Today topic.
3 years John - Wotsitallabout??
But........ and for those statistic followers only, I calculate that over the last 3 years this posting has been veiwed 13 times per every hour and has had an average of about 4 postings per day.
So Gold medals to you all for your enthuiasm for "knowledge" and wanting to keep on the ball with the "goings on" here. - Without your input 'twould be sad indeed!

Arillas Today.?
Well! - Where did I park? - Spot the Punto people. (ignore the wheely bin-Not in there)

.
Twas the last space I could find, unless I wanted to suffer Sharon's wrath by parking outside the Marina Pool Bar. ( Many a brave person has tried )

Temps have sat comfortably on the 28-31 deg mark this afternoon and the beach is looking after it's guests very well indeed.

On a sad note................................... This piccie taken at the Rainbow this afternoon.

.
They are missing a certain lovely couple - Can you guess who?
I'll give you a clue - I think that's his liver on the table, patiently waiting for him and loving wife to return.
