Its a shame that us peeps who live in the west and wales can not benifit, there again thats pretty much the norm these days. Will end up being exploited yet again with higher flight costs, it is making it that more difficult a choice to make it back this year(We can go to Brazil for the same cost almost)...maybe all these flight companies think that the welsh dont go further than spain!!

Ang -you're right. The cynicism of these airline bosses even makes me look innocent. They take our west country money that we work twice as much for as anyone else in the UK and sell cheap flights to anyone who does Gatwick.... and give us nothing in return.

Welcome to the west country - the local kids can't afford to live here - cheaper in Arillas!!! But they don't know how to do that anyway.

Quotethats pretty much the norm these days.

roll on jen and my move to corfu!

I have just been looking at the Easyjet site and they are quoting me £146 for when I am going in May unfortunately they only go from Gatwick and I live in Wales .  I have had to pay £209.  Maybe they will fly to Corfu from Liverpool or Manchester next year.

Hi Mike1908!
Welcome to the Arillas forum.
Tell me about it! If you look on previous posts on this subject you will seee that I've been on my 'soapbox' with very strong views about Easyjet and other so called 'low cost' airlines. I too live in Wales and my May flight is £248 from CWL Cardiff on 2nd. Also Ang will sympathize as she is in the same position.
Where in Wales do you live? As I've stated in my previous posts, I've done Gatwick, and all the major London airports in the past and refuse to travel to any of them any more as the 5/6 hour coach trip is ridiculous being both boring and bad for the environment.
With all that congestion in the London sky's why is it that the well equipped local airports are virtually abandoned. It doesn't make sense!
When in May are you there in Arillas? Don't forget to update the calender, and also the Tuesday Forum members night at the Coconut Bar! Hope to see you there.
Yammas,
Martin.

Martin - if it's any consolation to you, the Easyjet flights from Gatwick are now just as expensive, if not more so, than other airlines. It seems to me that unless you book with them the moment their timetable is published, you don't really get a bargain. Flights in May are now showing up at over £100 each way. I'm srtill monitoring it to see if they will drop prices at the last minute. I would have thought they will have to in order to fill the seats otherwise a daily flight in summer is surely not going to prove viable.

I noticed that too Sandy.  We booked in January for our flights for September.  £79 each return we got them for and I kept checking them regularly after and they eventually went up over the weeks to a lot more.

Yes, when they first came out I was gutted to find that I would have saved a good few hundred pounds, even with the extra travelling, but checking the other day, I would now be paying £700 more than the price I paid with Excel!!

I checked Easyjet prices yesterday for flights in September. Not that much cheaper than the flight I have booked from Bristol. Plus the times are horrible (would mean taking extra time off work) and the extra driving time to and from Gatwick. I think I'll stick with what we've got.

Your right there ang, we flying from gatwick this year as its so much cheaper than going from cardiff or bristol, first time we went corfu 5 years ago we flew from cardiff on a A.O.A. price was quite good, then the year after we wanted to go to corfu again but the price from cardiff was £100 more per person than gatwick, so went from gatwick. The year after we went from bristol, it wasn't as cheap as gatwick but with fuel and parking etc there wasn't much difference, this year we got the cheapest price of all, even cheaper than 5 years ago but, flying from gatwick, even though it was online price, with the cost of fuel and parking in london its still cheaper than flying from our local airport ie cardiff and bristol. Dont make sense does it

We've always done Bristol - for as much anything else, we live here & it's been so handy to leave work on a Friday, jump on the plane in the evening & get back the following weekend without the extra stress of a trek at the other end!

For our holiday in May, I turned to Bristol again, but the flights/package deals were so expensive, I really wasn't impressed & decided to see if I could do any better.

So, this time round we're taking the train to Gatwick on May 17th, flying with Easyjet that gets us into Corfu for tea-time & we don't fly back until the following Monday (albeit very early hours), hop on the train back to Bristol & should be back in our house by mid-morning - well that's what we hope will happen, best laid plans & all of that!!

We get 8 nights & 9 days so slightly more than we would on a package deal & it's worked out about £100 cheaper than our last break, plus I have really enjoyed all the planning & prep of the journey - it's been quite good fun!

I'm prepared to give Easyjet a go this time as I got the flights for a bit of a steal to be honest, but let me do it first, see how it goes & I will of course report back to everyone to let them them know whether it was indeed worth it!!

Hi Becky,

Like you we really enjoyed the Friday evening flight, but XL have now canceled it leaving us with Friday morning departures.  To get around the problem of trying to save some of Keith's annual leave for the rest of the year we are flying on the Saturday with Easyjet from Gatwick.

We fly from Edinburgh-Gatwick on the Friday evening with BA arriving at the North Terminal and staying at the Premier Lodge.  As luck would have it Easyjet have changed the Corfu flight to the North Terminal so that saves us less hassle on the Saturday morning.

So all in all it should be a stress free trip as we can have a meal and a good drink the night before we fly, brekkie in the morning then onward bound!

As luck would have it our daughter is flying from Newcastle the following week so we are all returning together travelling home up from there in her car.

All in all it has worked out cheaper than a charter from Newcastle, no airport car parking, cheap one way Easyjet flights and even cheaper return flight to Newcastle.  Total cost for 3 flights including hotel and breakfast is £200 each.  My daughter paid £247 for her 1 week Newcastle return.

I've flown with Easyjet lots of times and have no problem with them at all.

Enjoy your trip, I'm sure it will all go well.

Hi there Eileen,

From what you're saying, you've got quite a deal on your hands - although it's a bit of a pain in the bottom that they've stopped the Friday night flights - they were so handy weren't they?

I think Christian & I have done terribly well for our money & our rates for staying at the Brouklis are excellent value & above & beyond all of that, I'm really looking forward to the adventure of it all!

I love Bristol Airport because it's our local airport & easily manageable etc, but I'm really looking forward to hopping on the train (exceptionally early on the Saturday I hasten to add!) & heading off to Gatwick.

I've flown with Easyjet on various occasions & they are what they are - no frills & you just get on with it, which is absolutely fine as far as I'm concerned.

My only slight 'niggle' is that there are vast queues of people when we get there on the Saturday & we end up missing it, but that's just me looking for problems rather than just 'getting on with it!'

As far as having slight inconvenience with trains to Gatwick from Bris, well I'd rather have that & have an extra night & day in Arilllas - no competition whatsoever & a different Airport & train ride seems an extremely small price to pay for what we're getting in return!

How lovely that your family will be joining you? Has your daughter been out with you before?

I hope you all have a terrific time & like I said in my initial post, if it all goes 'Pete Tong' flights-wise, at least I'll have lots to share with other Forum members eh?!?

Thats very good Eileen with the hotel as well.  I didnt know Easyjet went from North Terminal to Corfu, or is that just your flight?  We go with EJ in September £79 each return but we do live just 5 mins from Gatwick so its a £5 taxi fare unless our son can take us.  So with the good accommodation at the BS Hotel it will be the cheapest holiday we have had so far in 10 years., mind you we do have to add on the taxi transfer but that is a bit of a needed luxury and we dont hire a car for two weeks.  It does seem to be first come first served it seems with EJ.

Flippin eck sue, that is such a good deal! I bet you couldnt believe your luck!

Eileen

Becky, a train journey versus an extra night in Arillas...it's a no brainer!!!  Forget the early morning start, you can while away the journey by immersing yourself in a good Greek book and forget about the buffet carriage take a picnic with a bottle of wine!

Yep our daughter's been over before, it's hard to escape without family!  She is bringing along a friend who has not yet been to Arillas so it will be interesting to see if we have gained another Arillas Addict!

Sue if you go online to your Easyjet booking you can check if your terminal has been changed.

It takes a bit more effort but don't you just think it's great when booking independent works out.  You have the convenience of tailoring your flight days and accommodation to your needs, often saving money into the bargain and the locals benefit too.
