New to the forum so please be kind!  Have been recommended Kaloudis and Arillas as an ideal place to stay.  Unfortuately finances won't allow this year (damned credit crunch!), but am looking to go next year in May half term.  Am aware that will book up really quickly when the new brochures come out and just want to get everything sorted so we can book asap when they are released.
Anyway, my question is what are the 3 bed apartments like at the Kaloudis?  It'll be me and the wife, our two kids and the inlaws (we get on fine so no problems there!).  Any particular ones you'd recommend for good view etc or one's to avoid if possible?  Any advice much appreciated - I'll let you know when we've booked!

Hi Colin,
Why not try the makris apts, with their prices you may be able to go this year.
Have a look at
www.makris-arillas.co.uk

for prices etc.
Thanks
Mike

Hi Colin

I think you'll find that Kaloudis only has two 3 bed apartments. One is booked through Thomson and the other is booked privately through Billy. They do get booked up pretty quickly though and both are in the pool area. The private one is where Billy's family lived before their new one was built. Another alternative is to book a 2 bedroomed apartment and a studio. There are two next door to each other.
Hope this helps.

Many thanks to you both for your replies - I'll take a look at the website and do my sums again Mike!

Hi Colin
We always try and book the Kaloudis.  All the appartments there are beautiful and are clean etc.
As June says there are only two and both are by the pool but this is not a bad point. We have stayed overlooking the pool on many occasion and it is a very nice spot to be in.  Also you have balconies facing opposite direction to pool so gives you best of both worlds, I can promise you, you wont be disappointed.

Thanks Amanda, can't understand why we haven't found this place before!  With regards the 3 Bed Apartments how are they laid out i.e ground floor or first floor etc, and (one for the inlaws) what are the views like?

wetty

The three bed apartments are on the ground floor so you won't have any problems with access, even with the in-laws in tow! We stayed in one of these apartments 3 years ago & i remember the father in law sitting on the balcony during the heat of the day, holding court, chatting to everybody walking past on their way to the pool. If you book i'm sure you will enjoy your stay at the Kaloudis, we're going back again this year for the fifth time.

ColinC

Thanks Wetty - sounds ideal (especially for the mother in law!)

The Kaloudis and Arillas sound like the place we've always been looking for!

Hi Colin

Due to being on the ground floor obviously you do not get the sights like from the high up balconies.  But you do look over a very beautifully kept garden.  Even though people walk past your balcony to the pool you will still find it very tranquil.  I love it and have been going since 1985.

Thanks once again Amanda - that puts my mind at rest.  Will be booking for May 2010 as soon as the brochures come out, and if we can't get the 3 Bed Apartment we'll go for a two bed and a studio.

From reading this Forum it seems I've fallen under the spell of Arillas already, and I haven't even been there yet!

I am not going to make myself popular with this reply, but I found the 3 bedroom apartments by the pool and the ground floor 2 bedroom apartment in the building at the bottom rather dismal. They were spotlessly clean, but rather in need of modernising. The bathroom in the two bedroom one was tiny. Neither of the apartments have a living room area, just bedrooms, an exceedingly basic kitchen and a bathroom. I didn't like the fiddly little showers in the bathrooms either - not easy to use when you are trying to wash a child's hair - the floor always got flooded. The furniture is of dark wood and made the apartments feel very gloomy.

The three bedroom one is quite near the bar area and we got woken up a couple of times by night time revellers.

Having said that I thought the public areas - bar and pool area were excellent and the location is brilliant.

We stayed in the 3 bedroom and it was fine. The down side was 1 shower between 6 people. So we now book 1 studio and a 2 bedroom, this gives 2 showers!! we have to ring Tomson as the website would not let us book it ourselves as 3 bedroom was booked and showed no accommodation. It also came out cheaper for some reason. The site is owned by one family but split into 2 halves. Billy has the pool bar and accommodation and roula has the shop and accommodation. It you want to book direct and get your own flights and transfer Roula has an apartment that sleeps 6 that over looks the sea with lovely views.i think one of the beds is in the lounge like a bed settee but cant remember.the shower is a lovely quadrant.Food for thought. If you want a number let me know

Thanks - points noted from you both, especially about the likely queue for the shower!  Still toying with the 3 bed or 2 bed/1 studio option, which I suppose will hopefully give us a better view, although not intending to spend much time there!

Hi Colin, forum anorak has stayed quiet till now because we have some serious Kaloudis experts on the forum. Jen and me stayed there in October 2007, but many never go anywhere else. It is in a perfect position, on the sea front about half way between the North and South ends of the beach. Roula, Christos, Pippina, Billy and all of them are typical, friendly, lovely people.

When we are in Arillas we always spend time by their pool, sipping cold Mythos after sunbathing and swimming all day. We always seem to sit at the same table just outside the bar. We have met many forum members right there. Our stay in a studio, just the two of us was idyllic, if a bit wet in October.

But like you say, you won't spend all your time there. You can visit all the sea front establishments, use their pool, chat with locals and guests, eat wonderful food and feel like you're part of it all. We often find ourselves nattering to complete strangers while strolling along the front. Get into the spirit, smile and say kalimera to anyone you meet. For us it was the start of an amazing journey that will continue for the rest of our lives. I kust know you will become another Arillas Addict.

Hi Colin,

Having been in the same situation as you, I definately recommend th 2 bed/1 studio option. Not only do you have more facilities as mentioned above (2 x showers), but our in-laws really appreciated having the opportunity for 'a bit of space'  and more independance.
