"Welsh Dragon singes Monkeys fur"
The big 2014 K/O, at Rainbow. attracted 16 of the best Summer local players with many players thinking about 2013 when Paniotis and Vasillis, both 12 years old, met in the final.
(In 2013 Paniotis ran out the winner)
Dart fingers trembled when they were drawn in at opposite ends of the draw. Other dart fingers trembled a little more when the 2 favourites were placed to possibly meet in the final.
Andy , Sea Monkeys Sidari, having won the last 7 local K/O's and the 2nd half of the Athens Pairs K/O, was up for it as was the other favourite Paul Davies who has various scalps of UK BDO players under wing.
The first rounds saw Andy take away the chances of local player Valantis (Captains Table) by 2-0, whilst Paniotis struggled with a 2-1 win over brother Yiannis.
Dimitris, (Or Jimmy Rainbow) , took a surprise scalp of Charles (Tria) with a 2-0, whilst Tria's Steve made light work of new comer Brachos, with another 2-0.
Stuart ( Rainbow ) practiced all afternoon for this K/O, but fell 2-0 tonight against Owl's Capt Bob , who looked to be back with a vengeance, and taking no prisoners.
Stammatis ( Rainbow) looked very cool with a 2-0 over Colin, Sidari, who maybe regretted the chocolate cake he ate just before his game.
Paul Davies , meanwhile, tore many layers of skin from opponent John, winning 2-0.
(John admits to not playing for 6 months but will be back next year with his usual game)
Poor Vasillis met Night Owl's Makis and failure to hit his doubles cost him a 2-0 defeat.
The 2nd rounds saw Andy pull the limbs from Paniotis with a 2-0 so a repeat of these young guys meeting in the final went out of the window.
Tria Steve moved forward at the expense of Jimmy with better double hitting, whilst Capt Bob said a sad farewell to Stamatis. - Y'all come back now!
Paul and Makis had a good 'ole game and although Makis had chances the game went Pauls way.
The semi finals were all lined up and Tria Steve found Andy to hot too handle whilst Bob finally gave way to the power scoring of Paul Davies. ( Paul already with a 180 on the board , plus a 112 finish)
So , the Final as expected bought the top two together.
Fiirst leg , comfortably to Paul who took the second, courtesy of Andy who missed clinical doubles. Andy bounces back to take the third leg. The 4th leg was high scoring and "TV" style which saw Paul take out the double first. Final Result --- Paul 3 - Andy 1.
A super night and Paul will be back next year to do the double.
Cheers
