Love the pictures Eggy, trouble is we have to wait until September to see it all for real. Can't wait to have a dip in the Rainbow pool followed by a beer at the bar with Jimmy and Spiros.

I have to say Dimitris is looking very relaxed for a new father and a man facing another busy season of hungry tourists.
Can't wait for that Rainbow pool to get some water in it...

Neill,
it appears that this winter has produced more building work than most years, it used to be that it was hard to notice what had changed but now there is such a lot changes going on in the village you are not going to be able to miss it.
I would hate for it to spoil things for the owners, it did happened a few years ago to a few of them because of a certain holiday company and it took a while for some to recover.

I do not want to be a killjoy or a stick in the mud, I just want everybody to have a happy and successful life.

I hope that I have not upset anyone by writing this, but Arillas is comfort, peace and joy for me.

Hi Mick

Very good comments none of which will, I'm sure upset any Forum members.

I think that Hotel Akti and Marina have had plans for quite some a few years now to  have swimming pools.
Same as all of us really. We all, perhaps, want to acheive something and, possibly, lack of funds means we give ourselves a target to start and finish the job.

It's just a coincidence it's all happening at the same time. By May you will not notice any major changes. Sometimes I think by telling people what's going on they lose that nice element of suprise when they are here.

I know where you're coming from with that "Certain Tour Operator" but do not think that they influenced either Hotels decision to go ahead with the works.

Full credit given though for your concern about Arillas.

Cheers
Negg

What happy chappies. Lovely picture, and a smile! Keep up the good work.

BASS MAN

Aye, there's the rub: hold up the spirit of place to the light too often and you strip away the mystique and romanticism. What is there left to know about Arillas? We even know when it's going to be a full moon.

blondegirl

Thats a very interesting thought Bass Man!  I suppose it is nice to have some surprises, although if its your first time it is nice to have some info about the new facilities.

I dont mind really either way, it will be like going to your old "family home" and realising its been decorated -  its still the same but fresher with some new additions.

I think what we will all be waiting to see with baited breath is  whether the donut man has bought himself a new tee shirt!
If you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain.

BBB

Well said BASS MAN. I personally prefer to re-discover Arillas when I arrive.

Hels Bels

I have to admit I like to know what's going on. we arrived in the first week of the season last year to find that there was a lot of work clearing the stream out and improving the drainage under the road.
Problem was we'd taken my mom to Arillas for the first time, and for months had gone on about how wonderful it was to stand on the bridge and listen to the frogs at night. Mom was really looking forward to it, and my goodness did we have a shock when we arrived. No bridge and no chance of any frogs! It would have been nicer to have known beforehand.

At least we get to see all the hard work that the folks of Arillas put in to make our stay such a magical one.

There's plenty of other surprises for us to look for.... is the sea going to be flat or choppy, the locals giving you a big hug when they see you return yet again. Will we see any bee eaters / hoopoe's / snakes on the walk up to Afionas. And what specials to Brouklis have on tonight!!!!

Eggy

Good points made by all here.

But it's an Arillas Today post and since it started life around June 07 it's had, I think, about 45,000 "viewings".

My old calculator puts this at about 1000 + each week.
(Quick - Someone else check that ! - Terry W could make a graph!)

But it does concern me about that element of suprise some holidaymakers can "lose"

It's one of the reasons it has been kept as "Arillas Today" so anybody who wants to wait to see the changes/suprises when they arrive should maybe treat this post as an unopened Xmas present. Maybe easier said than done as my curiosity makes me look at everything that's posted.

Someone out there could always create a "poll" on it. It could be interesting and If I am made redundant I guess I'll have to spend more time in the Coconut/Malibu.

I think you hit the nail on the head Negg when you described it as an unopened Christmas present.

I too have thought that the element of surprise is lost a little.

After dumping the suitcases I love my first stroll around Arillas saying my hellos and spotting the latest changes.  It's the one of the many 'special' parts of my holiday.

But....no one forces me to open the Arillas Today topic, there are days when I don't look at it, likewise there are many 'unread' topics that I mark as read.  There are not enough hours in the day to read everything.

So yes you are quite correct Negg when you described it as an unopened early Christmas present...it is there as a tantalizing temptation to open....and boy there are many days that I cannot resist the temptation!  I was glad I did yesterday, I thoroughly enjoyed looking at your photos. :-)

Thsi forum was created for the visitors of Arillas old and new to share information and thats what forums are about. We have been coming to Arillas for the past 15 odd years and the reason I found this forum was we had a gap a few years back of almost 4yrs ,this forum was great as we were able to both read and see that Arillas in the main had remained the same with a few additions of new places to stay and eat, so it made us even more relaxed to return.
Furthermore it was forum members again both old and new that requested the Arillas Today thread.
Eggy there will be no need to create any more poll's and certainly no talk of redundancy.
Happy holidays
