Villa Ionia is unique. On the increasingly exclusive North West coast, there are no other rental villas that offer the combination of stunning sea, sunset and local island views, 4 double ensuite bedrooms and, un-overlooked privacy.
For its size (about 2500 square feet) Villa Ionia is one of the most spacious homes on the island. It was designed to maximise space and light - from its 60 square metre open plan lounge kitchen dinning room to the wonderful beamed and vaulted ceilings in the first floor bedrooms leading to very large balconies and the wall to wall glass doors and window sections in the sea facing wall of the lounge.
Naturally Villa Ionia is equipped with all essential modern facilities including air-conditioning throughout, dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, Gaggia coffee machine, Wi Fi internet access and a host of other items. Most unusually a rental car is included with villa Ionia. Of course for those requiring the additional services of a cook, nanny, or even a personal guide, these can be easily arranged.
Externally, Villa Ionia offers a lounge set, sun loungers, parasols and of course dinning table and chairs. Across the shallow end of the swimming pool, full width steps were incorporated into the design, making it a great place to sit with a cool drink in hand.
Villa Ionia's position is perfect; set in 1.5 acres of a tranquil olive grove clad hillside, privacy is assured yet the resort is just a few minutes drive away or a pleasurable walk. By day, lunch around the pool, or at one of the lovely authentic family run tavernas on the beachfront or close by. By evening the sunsets from Villa Ionia are amongst the the most beautiful in the Mediterranean as they transform the local islands to silhouettes, never the same on any two nights.
There are of course a superb selection of tavernas and chic but inexpensive bars in the resort that offer views of the setting sun between the islands.
Villa Ionia is best suited to discerning independent travellers and in that respect we wanted to create a home that offers the comforts and facilities expected in a villa but in a location that offers the real Greece, rather than a tourist version of it. To that end, we chose Arrilas, away from the madding crowds of the more touristic East coast and far enough away from other busier resorts. In Arillas there are no hoards of rowdy BBQ boat day trippers flooding the tavernas and beaches and no nightclubs.
The rustic and peaceful location of the house opens to numerous walks through several local villages, along the coastline, through olive groves, meandering country tracks or cliff-top footpaths. On the seafront a small selection of water sports are available as is boat hire and the beach itself, awarded the EU Blue Flag, is of fine golden sand and the incredibly clear water is shallow. Arillas has been described by many as being as the North East was 30 years ago only with the essential sand beach and spectacular sunset views between the island.
A few years ago we were in a dilemma as to whether to build on the North East or North West coast of Corfu. We were asked the simple question: Do we prefer sunrise, or sun sets - what would we prefer to look at? Who wakes up at 5 am on holiday we thought, so our response was, sunset of course. Why then were we looking on the east coast? came the next question. With that realisation in mind, we invite you to Villa Ionia which is on the North West Coast of the wonderful Greek Island of Corfu.
