Cabin baggage or hold luggage?

I'm starting to think about what I'm going to take this year and after getting stung last year for being over limit, I thought I'd try to reduce the weight this time.  How am I going to do that then when I'm going for a month?! My limit is 22kg with Jet2 which is a decent amount but still not enough and still I rinse items through and wear them again. This time I'm going to make sure I use my full 10kg hand luggage and try not to have to sit on the suitcase to squash everything in.

One less item this year will be the hairdryer there's a good one in the apartment, so that means an extra couple of dresses or books can go in.

Do you manage with cabin baggage for a week or a fortnight, and if so, how do you do it? Or, if your allowance is 15kg or so, how do you keep down the weight?

Ah, Karen luvver, when I bought my latest car wreck, the dealer talked about street cred.... Ha Ha - I pointed out to him, that was why I was buying his old wreck in the first place. I don't need, or want any cred.

Jen and me don't do street cred in Arillas either. As long as you're covered and smell OK, is all that matters. So we take the absolute minimum of clothes to achieve that. Have you noticed, we are rarely seen with the same folk a week later? Or the pegs on their noses if we do? We have our reputation in Arillas, but it is not for fashion or smelling bad.....

So many people spend endless energy trying to look more beautiful, with many clothes, shoes, makeup and nail polish. They are wasting their money and luggage allowances for most men, and I think, many women. James Martin, the chef, said on TV today - keep it simple.  Very few ingredients, lots of flavour (personality)

Sorry cypress, I am a man after all.....

A month is a long time so I think it is inevitable that you will have to wash things through by hand but with the gorgeous sun I am sure it will dry in no time. At Bardis Sun Studios where we stay they have a laundry service and I am sure if you walked up there that they would do it for you also but obviously there is cost involved. We only go for 10 days maximum so not so bad. I try and put the heavier stuff in the hand luggage but a couple of years ago when we were flying with Thomsons from Doncaster  our hand luggage was weighed also but fortunately we had been forewarned. Shoes and books weigh the heaviest so I only take 3 pairs of shoes - 1 pair of flip flops, 1 pair for walking and 1 pair of silver wedge sandals for in the evening that go with everything. In respect of books, I guess if you have a kindle that will reduce the weight or make sure you only take the amount of books you will read as there are lots of places around the resort where you can obtain books. Leave books also there that you have read so you have more room for taking stuff home. Also sun lotions and toiletries weigh a lot. It has been discussed on here before that you can pre order these from Boots at the airport and then pick them up and they don't count towards your luggage allowance. I think this is a great idea, especially if you have a baby or small children as nappies for instance can weigh a lot. Hope this helps.

the past couple of years we have gone independant and travelled with just hand luggage. with easyjet there is no weight limit, just a bag size limit, so cram in what you can!!
i always buy my toiletries and sun cream at the airport, as that doesnt get weighed, and it can weigh really heavy!!
i like to read, so i do take books, but there are loads of places to get them from.
i write a list of what we wore while we were there ,  so i have some idea what to take next time.
lightweight towels, like microfibre ones.
only a couple of pairs of flip flops and a sturdy pair to walk in, which i travel in.
good luck!!

Karen, spend a couple of weeks on the North end of the beach - problem solved LOL ;D

I used to pack too much but now I pack the bare minimum. I packed my weeks worth of clothing/footwear in my 10kg hand luggage this year  because my mum hogged the whole of my suitcase lol (anyone would have thought she was going for a month!)

When it comes to casual day wear like vest tops and shorts etc, I buy cheap from places like Primark & Peacocks etc They cost next to nothing so can be thrown away to save on weight coming back or if stained by sun cream etc Also, they don't crease much so can be rolled up small so you can pack plenty.
Just pack a weeks worth of evening wear and alternate each week. I only pack one towel because I buy one of the 'Corfu' ones they sell in the supermarkets if I need another.
I only pack 4 lots of footwear - trainers, which I wear on the plane, a pair of pool flip flops, and my walking flip flops. They are by a brand called Rocket Dog, they were stuck to my feet the whole week back in May- so comfortable! And then a pair of sandals for the evening.

I always bring my toiletries, especially sun cream & mozzie repellent from home because it's cheaper from places like Home Bargains, Quality Save etc Airport prices are ridiculous.

I agree Rachel...I would never pay the prices that they charge at airports for sun tan lotions, repellents and any toiletries for that matter.
My husband can get by with very little, therefore this allows me to take more! Although we do also pay for the extra luggage allowance before we go...but that's me! I have got better at minimising over the years though.
Maybe I should take your advice about sunbathing on the far north part of the beach...I wouldn't need to pack my 7 bikinis...haha!
Would love to but just not brave enough!

Me neither! Maybe one day! ha

I had a good nosey around the shops in May. Looking at what clothing and footwear they have. The next time I need to buy new 'holiday clothes' I'm not going to bother buying them in the UK, I'm going to pack even less and do some shopping in Arillas instead :D

We usually buy things like sun tan lotion when we arrive, less to carry and it's usually a fair price too.

The  price of toiletries if preordered top pick up at the airport will be the same as in all Boots shops so no airport price but yeah wont be as cheap as homebargains etc.

In spite of my detractors, I comment anyway meluvvers.

Arillas in the summer is like the Glastonbury Festival.  Nearly unclothed people running round enjoying mood, music and experience. Fabulous evenings at the Nut, performers (including dear Yiota taking photos) just folk enjoying themselves. Jen and me? we drink Perry's Black Russians,  10 euros for two. Tomorrow we will do it differently. But tomorrow is tomorrow, avrio.......

Just dreaming......

You can also get lots of bargains at Boots on line that you don't find in their stores. They often have buy two get one half price offers.

You will get the on line price and then choose pick up at the airport. The best time to order sunscreen though seems to be in their Boxing day sale.

After having it delivered you then have to remember where you put it just before you come to Arillas though.Lol

The love affair continues.

A fair price Nick? Where was that? lol I bought Piz Buin for £3.99 in Asda and Hawaiian Tropic for £2.99 in Home Bargains - in Arillas and other places they're €12+ :-o
I'm all for supporting the local shops but where I can save a few £€£€, I do :-)

Just be careful with Hawaian Tropic suncream Rachel as it was recently tested and did not have as high an SPF as they state on the bottle. I do love the smell of it though and have used it in the past but won't anymore as I am very careful in the sun as my Mum has had  very serious malignant melanoma on her back and it is still a constant worry that she will get secondary cancer. My Mum is not a sun worshipper but was of the generation of when she was little she didn't use suncream. Skin cancer is also highly hereditary.

Ps - just bought my suncream in ASDA. Ambre Solaire 2 for £8.
