Where has the mermaid gone?  She was here one day, then gone the next.

O.M.G.
Has the Mermaid has been spirited away.

Did she slip back into the sea and head back to an underwater cave far below Gravia.

Has she gone south for the winter

Perhaps she has gone to visit her sister in Copenhagen

Some one out there knows,
the case of the missing mermaid may continue for some time me thinks.

If you have any information on this matter don't be afraid to post your information here .

No Stone should be left unturned in a effort to solve this extremely important matter.

WHERE IS THE MERMAID ?

It's fair to say the Mermaid had it's knockers. ( Can I say that?)

.......Anyway a super conversation piece and probably now retired away for the Winter.

Afionas and Magoulades has their torpedos and Arillas has the mermaid, whom, I think has developed a super fan club. (Torpedos come off a production line---Mermaid is a one off)
Like or not like her so much it's been an interesting Summer for this fishy white lady.
So we all should give her a big hand! - Well done , SWOT I SAY!

If we meet in the Winter I will let you all know how she is progressing.

Cheers
Negg

Why does Magoulades have a torpedo in the square (if thats how it can be described) , does anyone know ?  I have asked our driver who takes us horse riding, when we pass it ,and he hasn't got a clue ?

I've always wondered that. From what I can remember several villages have one, including Afiones. Obviously remnants of the war, but why?

I could understand it a little bit more maybe if they were coastal villages with the torpedo link ......

The Mermaid will return from her winter swim in all her serenity in May 2015.
Jean has been very upset that her gift to the people of Arillas had been vandalised 12 times with the fingers and tail being broken, and the chest stabbed with a screwdriver/chisel. The base had also been sprayed with paint
Even now the vandalism continues as now the mermaid has gone the base is now being broken.
Initially the Mermaid was not going to returned, but Jean has been encouraged to repair it by its many admirers.
Art is a very subjective issue and everybody has their own views and tastes. If we all destroyed something that we personally didn’t like the world would be a poorer place

Loved the mermaid as a new addition to the front at Arillas.  Photographed it twice, once with Julia (my wife) and once one morning on 12th September with me.  It disappeared almost immediately after that - we spotted it that same evening returning from our evening meal.  A cluster of concerned visitors formed around the base speculating about her fate. Glad we know at last.
Am including the photo for those who never got to see the mermaid.

Pat - You had an evening meal , with the Mermaid and she snuck off early, without paying??

On the Torpedo front I am trying to find out the full history but the "younger" Greeks don't know. A need to speak with older locals to find out. Even google is uncertain.

Sadly, it seems to me the mermaid is in the wrong place.  No one overlooks the mermaid.
Wearing my old policeman's hat, from when I was responsible for Crime Prevention and designing out crime, I'd say she need siting near one of the tavernas so that late at night (when the vandals come out to play) there is someone keeping an eye out.
Thieves and vandals hate it if their activities can be observed by law abiding folk, so the answer is to put vulnerable things where they can be seen, especially when it is dark.
