Finding furniture...
« on: March 29, 2011, 11:04:02 AM »
Hi all

So we've bought an apartment in Arillas! And now I need to think about getting the place furnished and ready for the summer. I'm coming out in April to get started and wondered where one would shop for this sort of stuff.  I've only been to Arillas as a 'tourist' so didn't really pay attention to what there was in Corfu Town.
I've heard that the new Ikea on the mainland is not too difficult a trip, but is there anything on the island?

Hi Jalal,
There are quite a few shops on the right as you enter Corfu Town, on the road going towards the airport. Afraid I can't think of their names at the moment. Also Profi sell furniture which is close to Lidls. I like to support the local people & buy from them but unfortunately a lot of their furniture wasn't 'my taste' & I also thought it was very expensive, so most of our furniture was bought in the U.K & shipped over. I can recommend a couple of transport companies who are reasonably priced.
There's also a good light shop just off the main road past Roda.
Send me a PM or email me if you want more information.
Sara.

Hi jalal,
As Sara says, there are quite a few shops on the right as you first enter Corfu Town - and as you say, some are very expensive. But there is one called Epiplomania (spelling may not be quite right) which is quite cheap, plus they will deliver large items free of charge. It's not a very large store from the outside so it's easy to miss, it's 2nd. shop after a junction (I think the first shop is kitchens?) and there is a petrol station opposite(ish) - If you get to Profi then you have gone too far.
Sorry it's a bit vague - never was any good at directions!
Home is where the heart is - CORFU :-)

So we've bought an apartment in Arillas!

Now come on Jalal - you can't leave it like that.

What have you bought?

How big is it?

Where is it?

Only joking - obviously you can tell us as much or as little about it as you like.

I just love to hear about people realising their dreams.

Congratulations, I'm sure you will have many, many happy days ahead.

Lol Angie.  Likewise, I too would love to know!
Congratulations Jalal. Without a doubt you will have many, many years of happiness in your new home.
We're going to be home [it still feels weird saying that] during April. You're quite welcome to call anytime.

Like Sara, I found it quite difficult buying furniture in Corfu although I did get a couple of things at Epiplomania, and all the household items at Profi. I also never wanted to waste precious holiday time going shopping - not my idea of fun. I  shipped most of my stuff over....but would not recommend the people I used....long story. Neill will never forget it, and nor will half of Arillas!!

Good luck anyway with furnishing your house. I am also home in April so maybe see you then.

Hi Jalal

Yes, erm taste and budget.........

Ebanos (Evanos)on the right hand side as you go into Corfu town. Orient further up the Lefkimi Road. Cocomat if you like that kinfd of thing. Matresses from Olympic Strom! Profi very useful for bits of houseware. Jumbo for odds and ends. Odd nice bits and bobs here and there. Lighting from a place in Roda. Very good Electrical shop by the market near the fort for "White goods" (Stainless in our case).

Franky, shopped at our leisure and on line in the UK, used lots special offers and sales in really good quality shops and used Mondial in Enfield to ship it all out. Bought a lot of furniture "trade" as you can if buying in one hit. Saved a fortune, got what I wanted and didnt have to hack round Corfu Town wasting my precious holiday time and sweat.

Storage is a consideration while you get it all together. Packing it was a pain. Otherwise quite enjoyable!

Seems a long time ago now. Still remember breaking my toe whilst assembling things.

Thank you all very much for the information! Amazing, six replies within a day of asking.

It seems most of the large stores are on the road in/out of Corfu Town so I'll look around there. I've seen Lidl and Profi I think, Epiplomania even have a website. I'll need to find a van.

@Angie: it's the old Tropicana place out past the Rainbow Resort. Not the whole place, part of it.

I won't have a lot of time there this summer, but after that... :)

If you look on the Agni website members were talking about a coach that goes over to ikea as a sort of day trip.

Wow jalal! I was going to ask if it was Alex Manatos apartments. Tropicana was a pit stop for us in 2008, getting from Elena Stella where we stayed to Tria Adelphia. Oh all right, it is nearly next door to Elena Stella, but Jen can't get far in one go.

Nice spot for you. Can't say I'm not a little bit jealous....

Congratulations Jalal,
Tropicana is a lovely place, I stayed there in 2007,
but it was a bit too far from the beach for me.
I've got a house in Moraitika now and will be shopping
for furniture too this year, so thanks everyone for advice.

Best wishes

Wow - fantastic!! Congratulations.

I knew it was up for sale as a whole but I didn't realise they were selling the appartments seperately. 'Might have a look myself if any are still available this summer.

Hi Angie,
If you don't mind the distance from the beach: Go for it!
It's been up for sale for some years now, I thought it was
the whole place as well, but if you can get one Apartment
you will surely be very pleased with it.

Hi Connie,,
Yes, I know it well.
We usually stay at the Tria and have often called in at the Tropicana for a drink.
I think it would be a great little complex - it even has a pool.

Well at least I can dream, if nothing else. :D

Hi Angie,
Everyone is entitled to dream! My favourite place has
always been the Horizon!!
I was looking for a house in Arillas for 3 years, but didn't
find the right location. Purely by chance I found exactly what
I was looking for in Moraitika on the South East Coast last year.
Life is full of surprises :-)
