When we walked around the circuit this year we noticed a small owl on the roof of the Bardis Sun Hotel.  It was there every day all day, I assumed they only came out at night, never seen one in Arillas before.  If you around that way look out for him, there was 5 tourists lined up taking his photo ha ha and I was one of them.  Will put photos on when I find my instrutions from Terry for uploading photos.

Chris, I was getting really excited untel i saw your post, I have been trying to get a photo of a scope owl that lives near the Bardis for about 4 yrs now but he always seems to see me coming and disapears which isnt very hard for a tiny thing like that to do. We have loads of little owls and long eared owls round by us as well as the barn and tawny but i have never been able to get a photo of this scope. if anybody does get one please let us see it. Viv

Vivian you could well be right about it being a Scops owl as both are similar size and colour, and both are found in greek islands,  the scops owl as you know has " EARS " I was not close enough to see this but that doen`t mean they wern`t there . I hope you see it this summer and can identify it. Wild life photoghaphy is a hobby of mine but like most people I just carry a compact camera on holliday. I hope someone can get a photo though .

I'm sure it is a scops owl. there are lots of them around Arillas. We live not far from the Bardis Sun, and we hear them all the time.

Saw it several times when I was staying at The Bardis Sun Hotel in May, has a very distinctive cry. Seems to live in the trees oposite the hotel, in the direction of Affiones. All the other birds go silent and 'disappear' when the owl appears!
