Makris go part independant for 2009
« on: September 02, 2008, 11:11:46 PM »
Due to Thomas  Cook changing the terms of their contract for 2009, the Makri family have decided to go independant on half of their apartments (7 out of 14). Where TC would pay for all the apartments up front wether or not they got booked they are now only paying on apartments filled. This means TC have no real incentive to fill the apartments and the family are concerned no-one will book.
They have asked me to act as their representative in taking bookings for next year.I am in the process of building a website and will let you know when this is up and running.
In the meantime if anyone has any questions or wants to book please contact me via e-mail (available in my profile).
Thanks
Mike

Sounds like a much better idea for the family business.  All the best with the website.

Having been to Makris on all my visits I decided to reply to this post (having up to now been content to lurk in the background watching videos etc until my next visit). We too would wish you luck with the website and would appreciate the email or a link to book direct, however we do have a visit booked later this year so I shall be bringing the topic up no doubt. We do wish the family luck in their venture and assure them of our continued bookings in years to come.

Hi, Mike.  It seems that Thomas Cook aren`t interested in the Makris. It must be a worry for the owners.  Is it because bookings have been slow or are they just downsizing? Is it likely to happen to any other properties in the village?  Iv`e heared nothing but good things about the Makris, so good luck with the website.

Hi,
From what we know TC are changing their contracts with all of their properties (i could be wrong, does anyone know for certain?). This way they only pay for what gets booked,it is the owners who will loose out as they don`t get paid if they are empty. The owners only seem to get a contract on a year by year basis and TC can change them each time. The Makri family took the decision to go independant on half of their apartments to see how it goes and may go fully independant next year if it is successful.

Hi Mike/Debbie

Caroline & Kenny (and Robbie - age 14) here for the first time!  We were just about to book through TC and started to do a bit research and came across this news about the Makris.

We usually go to Crete and have been to Corfu before but not Arillas - looks like our kind of holiday - laid back and friendly....

Should we wait until your website's up and running or is it better for Makris if we make the booking anyway?

All the best from sunny Edinburgh!

Hi C,K&R,

It makes no difference at all which way you book. The family are just trying to get a feel for whether or not to go fully independant next year.Going with TC gives you the whole package, flights transfers and accomodation, whereas though us you only get the accomodation. However hopefully doing it through us and booking your own flights and arranging transfers/ car hire may prove to be cheaper. It is possible for me to arrange transfers or advise on car hire so if you need any help just ask.

Thanks
Mike
