Ha Ha mick - just watch out for Dimitris granny. I swim a la naturel but agree that the hot stuff which ends up all down my front would be no joke. (Messy eater me)

My only word of warning to the naturists in May is that you cannot guarantee the weather you want. Could be quite rainy and thundery or could be hot and sunny. I think there was even a tornado last year that Marika caught on camera. July/August will be really hot, but in May or October you could end up sitting in bars drinking Mythos (or Royal Ionian of course) like we did last year.

Didn't mind a bit, but it wasn't naturist....

i must admit the first time on the naturist beach was quite nervracking for me (i never even go topless!!) but martin suffers very badly with psoriasis in normally covered places! so the sunshine has to get to those parts, and i can't let him lie on a beach on his own now can i??!! well, i am a convert, it is so lovely to lie on the beach, go in the sea and not worry about sand and a wet smimsuit. the other people on the beach are always friendly without being obtrusive. the only thing i miss are the sunbeds!!

We have just returned from 2 Weeks in Arillas and thought I would let you have our thoughts regarding the beach.

We were more than pleasantly surprised as to how good it is. Access is easy, I would estimate that from the pier it will take you less than 10 minutes to walk along the beach. The dividing line is quite apparent, once you are past the rocks you are on the naturist part.

There are no sunbeds. There is plenty of space, the sea is shallow and the sand is excellent.
Perhaps the most important aspect is the relaxed atmosphere. We were surprised at the large number of families that were there and the large number of single females. There were very few single men and although you will always get people walking up and down the beach for a nosy it wasn't too bad here.
We have been to little Banana beach on Skiathos for the last three years and we would have to say that Arillas is a lot nicer, friendlier and relaxed.
I would recommend this beach to anyone, we will certainly be back again next year.

And anyone that hasn't tried it yet, I would say just one thing. We have never, ever met anyone that has been on a naturist beach that has then said never again. Once you have overcome your initial fears I can assure you that you will wonder what the fuss is all about.
Go on give it a go !!

Hi, DronnyDave. Couldn`t   agree with you more. Once  you`ve tried it,there is no going back. And you are right about the single girls that use the beach. My wife has said that she also would go there on her own without any fears. Everyone looks out for each other- even when we`ve left our things to grab something to eat.(We didn`t leave any valuables) Cannot wait for next June.

As one of the single females who spends all day at that end of the beach, I couldn't agree more. Have just returned from another fantastic two weeks in Arillas and I think this year is the best it has ever been. It's mostly older people like myself (I won't say mature!) who are down there and the atmosphere is really relaxed. Yesterday I met a guy from New Zealand who must have been in his 70s and we just got chatting as we came out of the sea. He had never been on a nudist beach before and he couldn't believe how relaxed it was. Had a long chat with justphil on the beach the other day too....lol

Glad you had a good time Sandy.  Please post a report! Got to say, I am also a solo nude beach lover but I really dont think I could have a conversation with someone! I would be mortified which is a bit silly really. I will never forget a good few years ago (before I saw the light! :-) A couple who we had often seen year in year out and spent a lot of time with, well one year we were strolling along that end and came face to face to them in their birthday suits. It was soooo embarrassing (for us) and I have to admit we had a few sniggers about mis-judging them.  How bad is that?! All because they chose to sunbathe in the nude, which i now love! Its true what an earlier post says, very few people who do it would not do it again

As a single guy and naturist i feel i have to defend myself. Not all of us go to naturist beaches to ogle and perv.
I am the same as everyone else on here i go for the sun and the fact that i can be free of clothes. Why is it if a  lone woman is naked on the beach that is ok but if it is a guy on his own he must be up to something or doing something wrong?

DronnyDave

Greg,

I'm afraid it is the perception that people have. We went to the beach everyday during our fortnight in Arillas but just 1 day I was on my own because the missus was a bit off colour. I followed exactly the same routine as every other day, even sat in the same spot as the day before. But I got some strange looks and it got to the state where I felt a little uncomfortable, one female who I wasn't particularly close to anyway, even moved further down the beach.

So I apologise if i caused offence, I know we shouldn't tar everyone with the same brush, but it was quite apparent on the beach at Arillas that there were fewer single males and the first comment that the wife made was that she felt safer here and wouldn't have any fears in going to the beach on her own. She wouldn't dream to go to little Banana on Skiathos by herself.
Finally, I don't think that anyone on here has said that any single man on the beach must be upto something.

Regards

Dave

I saw several single men on the beach when I was there in August....some spoke to me, some didn't. I wasn't aware of any problems as I was too busy doing my own thing but I'm sorry if any single men are made to feel uncomfortable on the beach. As far as I am concerned we are all there to enjoy ourselves and relax in our own way, so i never take too much notice of anyone else.

no offence taken i would just like to add that when i spent 2 weeks in Arillas in June i never had a problem, everyone i met was very friendly. In fact i liked it so much  i will be back in June 2009.
But most places you go people tend to look bad at single guys which is some thing that i feel really strongly about. Just because i choose to travel alone doesn't make me a bad person....... honest :)

Absolutely Greg,

You're quite right. Just because you're a single guy you shouldn't have to feel under any kind of scrutiny or awkward.
I'm so glad that you felt the kindness & friendliness in Arillas & as a result are now planning going back next year - how about that.
Good for you :-)

BeckyB.

DronnyDave

Greg,
I'm pleased that you enjoyed Arillas and will be returning next year. We hope to go again next year too.
Unfortunately it is the society that we live in that many people always suspect the worse of people. I don't know where you are from but we have a local paper called the Metro, on the front page is an article regardingTelford Town council. Any single male found in a park in Telford will be challenged by council officials and asked to expain what they are doing. In effect banning you from any park unless you have children or a female with you. How sad.
Any way back to the beach in Arillas. What I was really trying to say is that we found the beach excellent, friendly and my wife felt safer and more at ease in Arillas compared to some of the other beaches that we have been on.
So again, my apologies if I've offended anyone.

My mother in law told me about that yesterday Dave and thought she had made it up.  You cant do anything now even if it is innocent, I can understand for some reasons and it might stop some unsavoury people hanging about but the "worlds gone mad".
If you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain.

Hi DronnyDave,
I hate to correct people but have just re read the metro and it actully says any lone PERSON not male and I agree with you the world has gone mad. Viv
