Went to Arillas for the first time 9th to 16th June... Blissssssss

Had been on the website footling around for info beforehand so when the tranfer transport headed into Arillas to drop ppl off I already *knew* where everything was and felt like I could have directed the driver around the place!!! LOL

The Arillas Map is fantastic to give you a sense of direction.... no messing around on arrival trying to find where you are/ to go/ everything you may need is, you are THERE, instantly ready to make the most of your holiday.

This website and Forum ROCK!!!!!

We found the same thing last year - we almost knew the place before arrival - not quite though - it was still fun getting around and finding everything!

hmmm....it makes me think sometimes after comments such as this that we are removing a little of the magic of Arillas for first time visitors..What does everyone else think?

Saying that, when an 'Arillas virgin' asks for advice what are we supposed to do?

Eggy?????

fitwenchdidyell

Nope it doesn't remove the magic it simply maximises your time there!!!

You can still make your own magic, and its a challenge to discover new stuff to share too.

Keep up the good work and give advice where requested... far far better than Holidays Uncovered!!!!

HI Graham and Philantsue

If you go back to page 5 on this thread you will find Terryw  post who set up the calendar with a link to it . Try the link as this lists all the people who are in Arillas at any time . the calendar as posted earlier does not show everybody . Hope this helps .

I agree that being informed did not spoil the magic, as nothing is like personal experience.

We couldn't remember all of it anyway!

I love researching wherever we go on holiday and as Mike doesnt do any he leaves it all up to me... it makes me feel a bit more secure if I know a place a bit before I get there.  I dont want to be landed with some totally unforeseen problem, at least I knew where the doctors was situated, how far it was to Corfu Town and Sidari, about the taxis and numerous other time saving and money saving tips, the ATM machine and of course all the best restaurants to try out.

It was like taking Mike on a mystery tour the first time we went to Arillas as he didnt know what was what and finding out all the places that was suggested was great fun .  Now we are always looking for new places to look out for on our walks as you dont soak it all up the first time.

I agree this site is so much more informative than any other holiday review site.  Its brilliant!

We agree BG and justlynn. We find nothing worse than spending the first half of a holiday wandering around aimlessly not knowing where anything is or what does exist or if what we like is where etc. Arriving with the tour operators brochure description and nothing else is like buying a lottery ticket. I now understand why people keep going back to the same place - we have no illusions at all about where we are going and what it is like.

But I also appreciate the excitement of discovering, seeing new things, trying, experimenting and enjoying all of that process. After all, that is how Jen and me found Arillas. Jo is just as valid in pointing this out as any of us who keep rabbiting on about it all.

I hope that those newbies who read this forum get an honest to goodness understanding of what Arillas is and what it isn't. And some tips to ease their early days here.

oh well - there's my halfpenny worth. Thanks Jo and all for making us think about it

Phew, what a weekend but I think we are just about ready.

I got home on Friday night and my mum, who is 84, phoned me to say that she did not feel very well. I managed to get her to the emergency doctors who diagnosed that her blood pressure was high and he gave her some tablets.

We were then shopping in Leamington yesterday morning and my mobile went and it was my mum again who said that she did not feel very well again. We had to abandon the shopping, drive back to Stockton and take her to Warwick Hospital where she was diagnosed has having a urine infection. By the time we got her back home and settled it was 2.00pm and we still had the shopping to do.

Today I have had to make sure that my mum was settled and rally the family around to keep her happy, and assured while we are away. Luckily my daughter only lives a few doors away from her and my two sons are always on hand. I don't know if anyone else has had similar problems, but it does put a lot of pressure on you before a holiday.

It is now nearly 9.30pm and we have to be up at about 2:25am and I think we are just about ready. Lawns are cut, house is cleaned, plants are watered, cases packed and are in the boot of car. As soon as football has finished I will be in bed.

So ---- Arillas here we come

We are sort of anticipating the same thing.  Mikes dad is 86 and not well and we know anything could happen between now and when we COME HOME from holiday.  We will have to have some kind of back up plan for when we are away too and get other family memebers to rally round if anything comes up.

We are just hoping they are well so we can get there at least!  You just never know do you, at least we dont have any major animal organizing to sort out too.  Our cat stays at home and is looked after by family and neighbours, Mike is self employed but the work still has to be done whilst we are away so that needs organizing... sometimes you think is it worth it, but of course when you are there you know it is.

If you log on Terry whilst you are away, I hope you have a good holiday, relax and dont forget the Greek night at the Horizon!  Remember dancing round the pool?  I thought we would all be falling in (and I cant swim!).  :-)
