A really hot Easter sunday here in Arillas. Last night we were lucky enough to be invited by our house landlord to the church service in Afionas. A beautiful church, and it was lovely to see how everyone celebrates the rising of Christ at midnight....have never been to a church service that concludes with fireworks, and fire crackers! Today we are spending Easter day with friends at their house, having a BBQ. Have only lived here since January, but this is now so much home!

Friday night at church was really something you need to experience to understand, the service goes on for a while with what seems nobody taking much notice until a signal that meant the parade was about to start a mock coffin with flowers decorating it is carried and every body follows with lighted candles this and fireflys everywhere is something to behold, then all back into church and  after much kissing the coffin suddenly becomes a free for all to take the flowers, then home.
Saturday, the day didn't start for Pete and I tell 1000 hrs when we woke and couldn't believe we had slept so late. Up to Rainbow for a lovely breakfast and meet Sandy. Down to the beach for a couple of hours and back for a fiesta about 30 degrees by now. We only  had a little to eat because we had been warned about the feast tonight. We all went up to church about 1130 got our candles lit and had a short outside service ( which included the oldest Papua suddenly asking what the time was ) then wow the bells went barmy, fireworks, gunfire the work's. After it was all over we we t back to litsa,s parents. Now as the saying goes a funny thing happened on the way but buy this time it was Sunday so I will tell you tomorrow. Viv

All these posts about the Easter celebrations are a joy to read. Maybe one year, we will go early in the season to enjoy it for real.
Thanks to all for keeping us informed!

Hippopotandmouse, it sounds like your first Easter was a beautiful experience.
The hospitality shown by the people of Corfu always astounds me.

I expect that the invitation to share Easter with the local people was unexpected and therefore all the more appreciated by your family, and something that you will always remember. I would have loved to have been there.

Hope to visit your shop in San Steph when we are 'home' May/June.

Yes Val & Bill, it was lovely. The hospitality we have experienced has been wonderful. Been given fresh eggs with the most yellow yolks ever, and stacks of olive oil. Also we know more of our neighbours here, both Greek and British, than we ever did after years in the same house in England! This really is a lovely place, and in Arillas today the sun is shining, after a little cloud yesterday. Look forward to meeting you when you come back.

We decided to travel girls in one car and boys in the other, I got in the front passenger seat Litsa handed me this lit candle and told me I had to keep it lit all the way, I really didn't believe her at first, but she said the police wouldn't worry about it, I was worried about setting the car alight never mind anything else, not e factly good roads, anyway there we were going along me hanging on to this candle for dear life,I then  help laughing when was h car you passed had someone holding a lit candle in the front (maybe funnier then then it sou day now) . We got to the house Litsa,s Mum and Dad Tartar and then the Baby  of the family  Nikos. A lovely time and great food then a game of conkers with the eggs. When we got home we sure needed our bed.
We had been warned to have a very light breakfast so when we got up we just had an Easter biscuit made by Spiro and a coffee. Dimitri then gave Pete a GPS and told us to go for a walk saying to be back about 1200 hrs. We did as we were told and as we got back Ralf and  Inform and Eric and Anna arrived with the children. By this time Dad was getting hungry but others seemed reluctant to sit still so guess who he told had to sit down so others would follow, that's right the littlest lady there. The table was perfect as is everything litsa does. The food was perfect the lamb and goat were just so succulent, there was some food on the table that I didn't fancy eating but we will skip that. Anyway the feast went on and on and my belly got bigger and bigger in the end I had to give up or did the home made rosa get the better of me?  After everything was tidy we all retired and did our own thing for a while. Thought I would never eat again but did manage a small piece of galaktobourko. for tea.
(BREAKING NEWS Roulas middle son George has just this minute become engaged) yet more celebrations rifles being shot car horns ext.

Went to Thomas's opening night last night a great , all tables full all eating lots of good food. We all went I to the kitchen to see today's catch and how it was going to be cooked  and came out with a drink, We have often been there but not on an opening night, it was electric and a good time was had by all. One more parade this morning because food now grows where it was once all spaces drought land and I think Easter is over then. It has been one such a wonderful experience a d we still have our normal 12 days to come. Just fantastic. Viv  xx

Thanks guys. Yesterday we walked up to Magloudes to see the possession and bands playing. Pete has the whole thing on video for me to post when we get back. Now having to use one of the boss,s camera's as mine won't charge I might not take as many as I have been as I feel a bit  nervous of using it. When we got back had some lunch and then to the beach. Got white marks ugh as north and south ends are none existing at the moment the sea is lovely and warm went swimming with the fishes by the jetty and then had to get changed as the top & bottom felt cold  and  even though it was  27 degrees.
Just had a lazy breakfast and this king about what to do today. Viv x
