Dance and Music Night by the Beach
« on: July 18, 2007, 03:06:18 PM »
I haven't seen any reference on the forum to the Dance and Music night, that was held last Sunday (15th July 2007). It was a wonderful experience with a live traditional "band" and dancers. I was covered in goose pimples when everyone joined in with the dancers towards the end of the evening, and I will post some videos on Youtube.

It was so nice to see so many people of all ages, laughing, eating and drinking and it just made me wish that we could do similar things back in the UK without people getting drunk and abusive.

It was the perfect way to spend the last evening of our memorable,  first holiday in Arillas.

Did anyone else go?

It sounds wonderful....wish I had been there.
A few years ago there was a similar festival in August, which was a really good evening. It took place on the beach opposite the Marina and there were loads of chairs put out on the beach (which was much wider then). The platform used for the water sports was brought in nearer the beach and all the performances took place on it. Loads of locals and holiday-makers....Great evening but as far as I know, it hasn't happened again....unless I've missed it!

It sounds like an evening we would have enjoyed too. Where was it.. was it actually on the beach?

It was on the road just past the Portofino. A small stage had been erected with its back to the sea, and the dancing took place on the road.

Hi Terryw

I saw the stage as they had set it up within a very short space of time.  We went out for dinner say 8pm and on our way back it was up and ready.
It didn't look too safe though, even by the Greeks standards as it was held up with just breeze blocks!

I have posted three videos of the dancing on Youtube.

The quality is not as good as I would have liked as I was at the back of the crowd but the music sounds good.

The videos are brill, thanks.  Just for a few minutes I was back there, lost in the music and watching everyone enjoy themselves.  Really appreciated.  Thank you.

I knew that something was going to be on that night, but we came home on the 10th, so sadly missed it. It's good to see a wee bit tho.

They had the same event last year as well.... it was to raise funds for the football team.. there was a live band, fireworks a BBQ and of course all the traditional village dances... it was a fantastic night!

Hopefully, it will become a regular fixture on the Arilas calender.
