Climate Resilience Fee increased on holiday accommmodation

As of January 2025 , the new, increased rates for the Climate Resilience Fee – imposed on Greece's hotel rooms and short-term rentals per night – came  into effect.

The new tax  which replaced the  previous "stayover tax" in 2024. As per the previous tax it is paid per night per accommodation.  It is not charged per person. Some reports the fee is paid on arrival and some on departure.

The revenue generated from the fee is allocated to a dedicated emergency fund for natural disaster preparedness and response.

Fee for April to October

Hotels:
– 1-2 star hotels: 2 euros per night
– 3-star hotels: 5 euros per night
– 4-star hotels: 10 euros per night
– 5-star hotels: 15 euros per night

Furnished Rooms for Rent – Apartments:
2 euros per night
Short-term rentals:
8 euros per night
If the property is a detached house over 80 square meters, a fee of 15 euros applies.
Self-catering accommodation – Furnished tourist villas:
15 euros per night.

Self-catering accommodation – Furnished holiday homes:
– 8 euros per night for properties under 80 square meters
– 15 euros per night for properties 80 square meters and above

Fee for November to March

Hotels:
– 1-2 star hotels: 0.50 euros per night
– 3-star hotels: 1.50 euros per night
– 4-star hotels: 3 euros per night
– 5-star hotels: 4 euros per night

Furnished Rooms for Rent – Apartments:
0.50 euros per night

Short-term rentals:
2 euros per night
If the property is a detached house over 80 square meters, a fee of 4 euros applies.

Self-catering accommodation – Furnished tourist villas:
4 euros per night

Self-catering accommodation – Furnished holiday homes:
– 2 euros per night for properties under 80 square meters
– 4 euros per night for properties 80 square meters and above
