100ml liquid rules

From June 2024 air passengers will be allowed to keep liquid containers in their hand luggage instead of putting them in a small plastic bag for security checks in 100ml bottles, as per the Governments deadline to introduce the new technology.
3D baggage scanners will be rolled out across UK airports. Lap tops and other electronic devices will also be allowed to remain in your hand luggage.
The  scanners are able to take high-resolution 3D images of bags allowing staff to check passenger’s bags from every angle. 

Some airports are already using the new system. Teesside International Airport (MME) became one of  the first in the UK to increase the 100ml limit to 2lts earlier this year. When I last used City Airport the new system was in use.

At least we will not be delayed as passengers who since 2006 still cannot understand the current rules.

Have not read anything about  EU airports that  have/will introduce the same systems for our return trips.

Report from City Airport's chief operating officer:


With the new scanners able to process up to 550 trays an hour each lane, passengers are moving through the airport more quickly.

“We are getting 30% more passengers through [an hour],” says FitzGerald. “It’s much less stressful from a passenger point of view. The information that’s provided to the security officer is much more enhanced so the threat detection has improved significantly.”

Re my post regarding the 100ml rule at airports other than the UK

It seems that each country, other than the EU, have their own regulations on this matter.

The EU  seems to be adhering to the 100ml rule

Some airports are now reported as saying they will not meet the deadline to introduce the new scanners
Manchester and Stansted claim it may take to2025. Heathrow also reported as saying it cannot confirm it will be ready
