Have just booked flights for a week from 5th Sep.  I will be travelling with a friend and we would both like to try some cycling around Arillas.  Has anyone experience of suitable routes - not too hilly!!  Also where is best for bike hire?

Hi Dot,

You may find the following link useful....

Bikes can be hired from Arkokal travel and also from the little kiosk opposite the Tria Adelphia.

Have fun.

Dorothy, We live here, and we cycle lots. Yes, some routes are hilly, but if you are reasonably fit, and take your time about it all, it's fine. If it gets too steep, get off and push! I do....
September is the ideal time to enjoy some bike rides, try cycling to San Stephanos, or if you are a wee bit more ambitious, cycle to Magoulades, and take the back road across to Kavvadades. We did that this week, nd it was lovely. (and it's all downhill after Kavvadades).....

Thanks all for your replies.

Eileen- found the Pure Corfu link most interesting.  However don't think we will be attempting the Pantokrator route!!

I've been visiting Arrilas almost every year for the past 12 years or so.

Every year I go on a couple of 'epic' rides around either the Northern or Central parts of Corfu.

I've always hired my bikes from Pegasus Bikes(under the Condor Bar) in San Stefanos.
Hire charge is now 4 and a half euros for 24 hours and I've always found the bikes to be well maintained.

There really isn't a flat way out of Arrilas, but probably the easiest area to head for is towards Sidari.

Hire bikes never seem to come with pumps or tools, let alone the requisites to repair punctures.I always bring my own pump, tools etc. But I've never had a puncture yet.

My preference has always been for an early 7.00a.m. start and to get the mountains out of the way by about 11..00 a.m. Then a leisurely ride back along the coastal roads.
The views from Pantakrator, Bella Vista and the Kaisers Chair are all fantastic, but require a lot of effort to get to the top of the climbs.

There's a few pictures that I took last year on the Photo Gallery Board, under Cycling and Walking 2010.

Hope you manage to get a few miles in around the island this year.

John.
