What a year for travel worries

I now see on the BBC website that BAA staff could be striking in August and this would cause disruption at Heathrow, Stansted, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Southampton airports. I am lucky that our flight is from Birmingham but there is always a knock on effect to other airports.

Terry, looks like they have voted to strike and according to BBC website, Unite may decide to target the bank holiday weekend!  Typical!  I think I said on an earlier post, it's a case of believe you are going when you get there this year!  Fingers crossed they sort it out!

well I'm glad we're not having our 'holiday' til December! Maybe all we'll have to worry about then will be snow at the UK end!!!!!

GaryS

It is not our intention to disrupt peoples holidays.....

Well thats okay then. With only half the members bothering to vote its hardly a mandate to strike and shows poor support for the union.

Like I have said before, I am ignorant to the reasons for these strikes, and I'm sure that they feel they have good reason but for ordinary people like our family who scrimp and save all year, to find money they can ill-afford for 2 blissful weeks away from reality it is terrifying that in a blink of an eye we could be be going nowhere. Luckily we are flying from Manchester so should be ok but you do wonder about the prospect of delays now..

Dai

Quite right Jo. We are flying out of Bristol, but if planes are trapped in a strikebound airport it could affect everyone. Fingers crossed, again!

When has striking ever really worked? Yes you may squeeze out that 1% which goes towards the 3% you have lost in wages. You alienate the public who have their post, holidays etc. delayed or cancelled and you damage the business which in most cases is damaged anyway. Fingers crossed sence will see the light of day and all will realise we are not French.

They really get my back up, most of us have to scrimp and save to have two weeks in the sun and then they decide to go on strike.Luckily for us  we are flying from Manchester and if we are delayed there are only the two of us, I feel  sorry for families who have children with them .

We don't have Airport strikes in Denmark, but I heard on the news
the other day that because of the forest fires in Russia the Air space
over Denmark is now filled with the smoke from over there.

So, like when the Islandic vulcano was causing trouble I'm worried again!
Only 3 weeks until I'm off to Corfu, fingers crossed I'll get there !!!

I've just had a text from my brother who flew to Corfu on yesterday's Easyjet flight from Bristol. They live in Barnstaple and said they only made the flight by the skin of their teeth because of delays due to holiday traffic on the M5. My little niece and nephew turned on some timely waterworks for the EJ staff and they were let on the plane....At least they got there!!
