Is it safe to walk at night between Arillas and San Stefanos?

Hi there - my 13-year-old daughter and I are going back to San Stefanos this August after a fantastic holiday there last year during which we managed only one afternoon visit to Arillas. This year as well as the San Stefanos eateries I'm determined to try a couple of restaurants in Arillas for an evening meal, particularly the Brouklis Taverna, but I was wondering how safe it is to walk back at night either over the hills or the road (ie is it well lit etc?). Has anyone done the walk at night in either direction without coming to major harm? I've got visions of daughter and myself stumbling off a cliff edge or something so any advice greatly appreciated!    Thanks! Diana

Not sure how safe it would be but i would guess it would be quite dark unless there's a full moon,myself i think i would consider a taxi i dont think it would cost too much

We have walked in back at night but we kept to the road. If you are going to do it don't forget to take a torch.

Seeing I derailed this thread.....

The path is quite passable at night and with the moonlight reflecting off the sea there is a lot more light than you would expect, however near the bottom on one side there is a fair drop to the beach where the path has eroded away. Best advice is to walk it in the day so you can get a feel for it and then at night take a torch, especially if there is cloud.

There's obviously quite a tale there - thanks for that! I like the idea of walking in the moonlight (we did the walk last year in daylight) but I think the taxi option perhaps sounds safer in cloudier conditions. Last year I had the impression taxis were hard to come by (I seem to remember they had to come from Sidari?) - or do you know of taxis available more locally? Thanks again!

The nearest taxi office is in Kavadades...

The lads there speak good English so it might be an idea to give them a ring asking for an idea of the price.

Just had a look on my map and can see Kavadades is much more local. Thanks so much for that - I can imagine that number coming in handy on other occasions as well. What a great forum this is!

Does that firm actually keep their taxis at Kavadades during the day/evening or is that just their office ?

I would have thought they are usually kept on the rank at Sidari like many others in which case  I presume you would still have to pay for them to bring the taxi from Sidari.

I've always assumed that they work from Kavadades as the fare I pay does not reflect the price it would be should the taxi have come from Sidari.

I wouldn't expect to order a taxi from the nearby Kavadades office for it to come down from Sidari and to charge me for it.  If this was the case I certainly would not use it.

I think I mentioned before that when we walked to San Stef. we went in to the travel office there to ask about a taxi back and they said it has to come from Sidari.. the main rank is there so perhaps all the taxis come from there.  So we walked back!  We thought by the time taxi came from Sidari we would have walked most of the way back anyway and the price would reflect the extra mileage.  Dont know if that helps..  Sue

Hi all you Arillas regulars. I notice from the posts that it is reasonably straightforward to walk to San Stefanos. Is it as easy to walk to Agios Georgios? Anne and I stayed there 21 years ago and would like to have a look for old times sake.
