Hi everyone,
We'll be arriving 3 weeks tomorrow and my son asked me if I can recommend a smallish, intimate taverna in a nice setting that he can take his girlfriend to, preferably overlooking the beach for the sunset. As I'm getting on a bit and the memory is not what it was I'm blowed if I can think of anywhere, he suggested I post on the forum to see if any of the regular visitors could recommend somewhere.
Can anyone help? He's not letting on why, maybe he wants to pop the question!
Also, the girlfriend would like to know where the dog rescue place is and is it within walking distance?
Thanks in anticipation.

Try a take away and the bench overlooking the beach
You cant beat that spot for a sunset
You dont need restraunts and fancy tables to be romantic
But any place in Arillas would be Ideal
I do like portofino though
or Kostas or Brooklis or.......you know what I mean

Sorry John the Ref, that bench belongs to either Sandy or me. We have had words about it before....

Back on thread, the Thalassa is the PERFECT place for an engagement. 8pm in the sunset, beautiful meal, metaxa brandy, Giannis and Litsa as hosts, can't go wrong!!!

But if you want old fashioned family values - propose in the Amourada. It is on the corner opposite the ATM. Very pretty but undervalued. A little gem of Arillas. They will celebrate with you and you will think it is perfect!

Good luck
Phil

one of the best places to view the sunset and eat fab food for me would have to be graziella's

Kostas is lovely.. perfect views.  Horizon has a viewing platform with chairs, none of them are very private though, so many people around if they want privacy, if not then any of those on the beach front would be lovely and if it is going to be a "big occasion" then he could always arrange for something to be done like a huge ice sundae with sparklers and all could join in with the fun..  He would be spoilt for choice.  If they want privacy then as John the ref suggested one of those gorgeous soft kebabs from the snack bar and a bottle of wine on the beach.. lovely!  I think Kostas would be top of my list.
If you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain.

I would sugest a quiet word in the ear of either Dimitris, Yannis(thalasa) Marino(horizon) George(helenas)or Kosta(kostas) maybe one of them would place a table on the beach just before sunset and serve a nice meal and then the romance will take over.
Just a thought

That sounds even better!

I agree with everyone that any of the tavernas on the front would do the trick, although unfortunately, I don't believe Thalassa has opened?  Maybe it will though.

Kostas, Portofino, Horizon and Graziella are all good, but I think Ang has come up with the best idea of all !
All the Best,

That's the problem Glenny - all my forum mates are right - they will ALL work. BG, Ang, ger, John the Ref and Jen and me know - they will ALL be perfect. Jen and me would do it in Thalassa though - it's our favourite place...

Thanks to all for your replies, I vaguely remember the Thalassa being a bit special, the boy did wonder if any of the owners would put a table on the beach for him and the girlfriend, I've a feeling that's what he'll do if possible.
Dog rescue place anyone?

Just a BIT excited now, 3 weeks and we'll be there!
Was also wondering how busy is it likely to be mid-June, as there are eight of us going will we have any difficulty getting a table in any of the tavernas?
Me and the other half were there last Sept and it was so quiet, ideal really.

I haven't seen the dog rescue place in all the times I've visited corfu. I think if you look at the Agni site, (Corfu travel guide). You will be able to find out more, as I think they sponsor some of the animals. Good luck, we go in 3 weeks too.
