Hello everyone.
We have booked today for the Arillas Bay in July. It looks lovely, as does the resort. We've been to Corfu a couple of times, but not recently. Our last 4 holidays have been spent in Alykes, Zakynthos. Arillas seems to be very similar, so I'm hoping we'll enjoy it.
Does anyone have any recommendations for tavernas that we must visit? Or tips for new visitors to the Arillas area?
Thanks!
Meryl

Hi Meryl,
Obviously you must try the Brouklis for a meal, but you wont go far wrong in most of the bars/restaurants in Arillas, they are all good and get good reviews from this forum.

You will have opened the gates now to a lot of comments about restaurants.  Everyone has their favourites and repeatedly go back.  All the ones we have been to have been excellent.  You will be spoilt for choice.

My daughter and about 12 friends went to Alykes last year for their holiday and had a great time. Her only complaint? It just wasn't Arillas......guess where she'll be this year?.....

Blondegirl hit the nail on the head. There will be loads of replies. Arillas is special, and food is a part of that. Vavilas (Tomas) round the back streets is special for fish. get directions from anyone. And Graziella's garlic prawns are to DIE for. But Brouklis produce a traditional Corfiot menu that is superb and, and, and, Just watch the ole weight!!!

The forum has arranged to meet every Tuesday in the Coconut bar near the sea front. If you want to hear everything about Arillas, come on Tuesdays at 8pm.

bet wishes
phil (jen has gone to bed but I'm still in arillas)

Hi Meryl,
I can only echo what has already been said. Dimitris at the Bouklis taverna, Thomas Vavalis's fish taverna and the Grazziella on the seafront are highly recommended but all of the establishments in Arillas have that great Corfiot welcome waiting for you. Its all part of the charm of Arillas. Traditional hospitality in a very friendly and beautiful place. Once you have been there, nowhere else is the same!
Have a great time!
Yammas,
Martin.

Our first Greek Holiday was near Laganas (horrible resort)  in Zante.  I am so glad that didnt put us off going to Greece otherwise we would never have found Arillas.

Russell this will only be our third visit this September too and got the bug straight away too.  Where are you staying this time?  We are at the Bardis Sun Hotel, the two middle weeks.

We will be Arillas virgins until July too.

We have been to Alikes a few times (because the kids like it). I hope Arillas is not similar - too many noisy bars, not Greek enough and only one proper Taverna that the locals used and well away from usual tourist restaurants.

There are only two bars in Arillas and they havent been too rowdy either when we have been in there or even walking by.

Most of the restaurants are on the front and you are spoilt for choice as they are all very good.  The famous Brouklis (Dimitris place) is on the same road as the bars but a little further up the road past the junction to San Stefanos.  I dont know what Alikes is like but Arillas is definately not like Sidari, Malia or Kavos.

Hi Blondegirl
We are staying at the Rainbow complex from the 29th of september, got a good deal from thomas cooks.
We stayed at the Bardis sun when you was there last june, we was in number 4 apt when they had the earthquake
Talk about did the earth move for you darling

Hi Blondegirl your not wrong about Laganas we met a couple who had been going there for years and decided enough was enough came up to Alykes and loved it

blondegirl

Our daughter was 13 when we took her to zante and we would never have let her out on her own to go and get an ice cream or sweets unlike Arillas where we know she would be ok.

We were in the Captains when the earthquake happened Russell.  I thought someone had banged the table when they sat down, but Lynda felt her chair move.  There were about 12 of us then from the Galini Gang (holiday reunion) so with all the comings and goings I didnt really notice it until Lynda mentioned it.

I didn't expect so many replies so quickly! What a friendly lot you are!
It seems like Arillas will suit my husband, our 16 year old daughter and myself perfectly. We like a nice safe and quiet beach where you can get through some good paperbacks, quiet accomodation, be able to eat traditional Greek food etc. Arillas sounds perfect. We certainly don't like rowdy and noisy places.
We usually hire a car for a couple of days so we can take in all the local scenery, and I see that Arillas has a car hire place.
We can't wait to go in 13 weeks time
Thanks again!
