I've just remembered one of the main things about Arillas is the silent nights.

Having just swapped bedrooms with our daughter (she needed more space), we are now in the front bedroom of our house and we live on a main road.  I forgot just how noisy it was.
Last night as I was trying to get to sleep I couldn't help but think I was in Arillas as you never hear many vehicles on a night.
As we stay at the Kaloudis, and it is the last accommodation on the sea front there is no need for traffic to go there unless you are staying there.  The only thing you do hear are the insects.
Even with our bedroom window closed you still appreciate the silent nights of Arillas.

Thats why we like it at the Bardis Sun being on the end of the road, although you do get the occasional car before on the bends before the Sea Breeze.

We live 5 mins from Gatwick and the M25 rumbling in the background and the Gatwick Express (Brighton to London) so it can be a bit noisy here at night (a gentle hum of traffic) and we live on the country edge of the town too.  Thats why we like peace and quiet on holiday.
If you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain.

Hi BG

Its probably worse for you living near Gatwick then, to add to the noise of the motorway traffic you have the aeroplanes!!

Jen and I identify with that - our village is just as quite as Arillas at night, except when the pub empties out at 11!

We are so used to the quiet we can't cope with noisy nights any more! Yet another box ticked by Arillas!

Added to that is the light pollution.. its never totally dark.

Here there are no street lights at all - you can see every star you can focus on outside our house. Have noticed though, that isn't always true in Arillas - maybe the poistion etc - I'm no astronomer.

Stars in Arillas? (apart from the locals of course!!)

We are like Phil and Jen and live in a village where it is very quiet at day and night. Helen finds it a "creepy" at times though if she is on her own, especially in the summer, because you  can hear lots of weird animal noises.

We do have a down side though because at the opposite end of the field, at the back of our house, there is a "Jesus Army" commune that houses a lot of brain washed recruites. Two rapists and one murderer have been arrested there including Peter Tobin who had the bodies buried in Margate.

The one thing  we do hear are the odd aircraft in the distance, probably going to or from Coventry or Birmingham airport. When we do here them and we are lying in bed we just wish it was us on the plane going somewhere nice.

Its a shame on holiday that we have to have the windows closed and have the air conditioning on (mosquito defence) because it is lovely to listen to the sea and the circades whilst in bed.
