Being typically English we got there around 8 pm, which was too early for Greeks some of whom still had businesses to run.
Also being typically English we expected a few nibbles on the bar, maybe some cheese and biscuits, a few cocktail sausages on sticks.(Like a pub new years eve type of thing)

However it soon came to light that this was a last night function taken very seriously.
We should have realised this at the point of having 2 glasses of a very nice red wine and then Peri leaving the very large bottle with us to help ourselves

Costas appeared occassionally but most of the time was preparing the Barbie. Hannah seemed to be on salad duties and plates napkins etc plus looking after drink requests whilst Peri was busying himself making tables by stacking beer crates and vanished in the car more than once returning with extras.

By 10:30, out was the usual thump of pop music, and in was some authentic Greek.
This was when people started to arrive. Dimitri from Arkokal,Vassilis from Armourada, Akis from Mathraki, Alex from the Supermarket plus other faces I recognised but not the names.
Peri from Petra Estate Agents was there and I did consider selling him some land but gave that one a miss.

11pm and out came the food.
Pork Rashers, Lamb peices, Greek Sausage, Roast Spuds plus large plates of salads and tzatziki.

A good time was had by everyone. A great gesture from all at Coconut to their freinds.
One downside was that I had to drive home. The other was the frustration of not being able to speak enough Greek to mingle with many of the other guests.
That said we were made very welcome. A very fine ending to a busy season for them all.
Cheers

Sounds like you had a good time Negg, shame you had to drive home.So have all the tourisits gone? Will there be no where open for you to have a little glass and a chat with in Arillas Im sure that will be most strange for you but as you have said you have lots to do...anymore last nights this week.

Kind of sad occasion for you Eggy altough it means everybody there now has time to do their own things and time to spend with their family's. Viv

Well Eggy, it looks like I have a good enough reason for me to hang around until the end of the season next year;-)

It sounds like the usual late-night Coconut crowd were there, and as you say it was a lovely gesture from the boys and Hana.

Eileen.....

p.s did you finish off the very large bottle of wine?!!

Eggy,

It sounds as if it was a really good evening. Just one question though.

QuoteThe other was the frustration of not being able to speak enough Greek to mingle with many of the other guests.

Does this mean that Greek speaking Donkeys are safe for at least another year?

Wish I'd been there...I've felt very strange all weekend knowing that evrything is closing down in Arillas. I know all the locals deserve a good rest and I hope everyone has a good winter......but somehow when it is all still happeneing out there, I feel more part of it. We look forward to full winter reports Eggy!

To try and answer all questions.
The hint of sadness was only apparent this morning with an early visit to Arillas.
(I'll get some pics on "Arillas Today")

But, equally there is now a new Arillas which seems to ouse a different sort of very relaxed atmosphere. - It's a bit an like old year out - new year in sort of thing.

There was a Libra minibus outside Horizon with some late tourists saying their goodbyes and preparing to leave. I think Rainbow customers leave this pm.

So, Kevin, now it could be now time to make use of the "Lavendis" the local bar at Kavvadades.
( Not so far to home either )

Eileen - i should have bought the bottle home with me.
Terry - Greek speaking Donkeys could be in a lot of trouble next year.
Sandy - The only locals I saw this morning were sat together, Horizon, Grazzilella unwinding and yes you're absolutely right. They deserve all the prime time they can get now

Cheers

Neil,

I know that Keith and I were spoiled weather wise during our visit last New Year so it may have had a bearing on our first 'out of season' visit...but we thoroughly enjoyed seeing a different side to Arillas, so much so that we said it would not bother us too much if all our future visits were over the 'closed' season.  If only it was not so expensive to get over Nov-April :-(

You can be assured that we will be thinking of you enjoying this new part of your 'new lives'...

Ah Neill, you're making me sick here. I would just love to see arillas without the tourists!
(no offense to the tourists, cos I do like the ones i've met, and I am one myself).
However, hopefully one day we will be there in winter too.

Hello Eggy,

Sounds like it was fun! Say hello to Vassilis and family (Armourada) from Heidi and I when you go past there.

Well, next summer we will see you in the Coconut as Heidi and I will spent another fortnight sampling Kosta's fabulous cocktails with a beer chaser ;)

Life is good ;)
