Morning everyone! Sorry for so many posts and questions! I'm currently at work and a bit bored so thought I'd jump on! I know a lot of small businesses prefer cash as they lose a % on card transactions and I do try to use cash as much as possible so was wondering if this is the case in Arillas? I go to Villamartin in Spain every year with 3 mates for a long weekend and we always just take cash and never use card and the pubs and restaurants seem to appreciate it.

Hi
You will have no problem spending cash in Arillas, other than trying to purchase euro using £'s

Not so much in Arillas, but in Skiathos you are always asked if you wish to pay by cash or card. I was told this now the law. Its an attempt by the Greek government to collect tax's from the tavernas, which is not easy if all transactions are cash.

A warning if you use ATM's to get cash

Unfortunately I selected the wrong option,as it was difficult to see the screen, and I must have selected the ''to accept the conversion rate'' offered rather than ''decline''.     Subsequently I received a rate of 1.08  including a 9% mark up from the Greek Bank  ATM rate.

Lesson learnt. If the sun is dazzling the screen, or its dirty go else where.

As a matter of interest I withdrew some more euro's at the same ATM machine but this time selected the correct option (decline)  and looking at my bank statement the exchange rate was 1.18

It is better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than  to speak up and remove all doubt.

Thanks Geoff, I always tend to take cash but was curious to see, as some places at home anyway have gone cashless
