Tortoises treated, with great respect, on the roads. (I've even see Greeks stop cars and move them to the undergrowth.
(Pity snakes don't get the same treatment!!)

V for Very nice , PJ. But..... does anyone else apart from us ever look at the effort and time we make??
More you guys than me. You are the "overtime" workers. ( Although could not work overtime in those speedos!!)
But ...apart from us "veterans" , nothing else gets placed on this post. - And I beleive the viewings are on the way down , every month.
and.... PJ , that pic of you staring at St.George , North , gave me a panic attack. The best thing for a panic attack is Big Breaths.
(Worked for me!!)

Sonia - Don't blame yer Auntie!!! -

I just reckon there must be some Arilliacs , out there , poised with a photo for the relevant letter, only to miss it !! - I have missed them more than once and then , sadly, lost the will to wait. - (Hence that little group I popped in)
Maybe just stick em in here when you take em. ?? -

Interesting one you took , though. - What's the history with of "HARI 1936" - or is this the password??

Eggy

Get on , yer ole rebel you. - Don't even give a letter !! - Take it , as you see it and then post it.
Spur of the moment or the chance could be lost. - Leave the "Brouklis Boss" to me!! There's a revolution going on.
.
How about some work going on at the road leading to our house?

Not finished yet but is much better than overgrown brambles and deep gullies. (May put a few euros on our house price as well)

Cheers

HI

A BIT OF HISTORY

A light was exhibited from a rocky islet off the norteast tip of Corfu Island at Peristeres as early as 1828. It was one of the first beacons established in Greece after the War of Independence. Peristeres means the "doves" or "pigeons".

The lighthouse was constructed by the British during their rule of the Ionian Islands. The first light may have been a simple column holding a beacon. It signaled the entrance to the narrow passage between Corfu and the mainland. By 1872 the beacon needed to be replaced and a sturdy stone tower was built. Unfortunately, the 1982 lighthouse is now in ruins due to earthquakes and attacks by German bombers during World War II. Still the Hellenic Lighthouse Service keeps a small modern beacon on the site.

The lighthouse is sometimes called "Kaparelli Light" or "Tiniozo Light". It is a quide for ships headed south out of the Adriatic Sea. The Albanian coastline is visible in the distance. The turbulent waters around the island constantly erode its shores. The intense rainstorms of the isle inspired Prospero's stormy island in Shakespeare The Tempest.
