Title: Coronavirus Latest Updates: Greece is opening for tourism by 14th May 2021
Post by: dimitris on April 22, 2021, 10:21:17 PM
Hello everyone ...
I must apologise for not keeping in touch for such a long time.
I wanted to do it as soon as I had only good news to announce as I'm not good in announcing bad news etc.
We have had another quiet winter in Arillas.... many days of pure rain but huge periods with sunny days and good temperatures during the day.
Many foreign nationals decided come and live during winter  in Arillas and the areas near-by where they could spend their lockdown time escaping from anxiety and corona restrictions of the big European cities.
However, in Arillas until today you still have to have facemask while being out on the road. The police does come and control frequently ... the locals who get caught not using a mask will face a 300 euro fine.
SO!

Finaly the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office is not advising against travel to the islands of Rhodes, Kos, Zakynthos, Corfu and Crete.

Thank you for the update Dimitris, it's so good to hear the facts and not all the speculation which abounds.

We will both have been double vaccinated by then so, fingers crossed, will be in the beautiful happy place of Arillas at the end of June and, on our first night (as is now tradition) enjoying dinner at Brouklis.
Wishing you, and all the Arillas businesses, well for the start of the season.  Look forward to seeing you soon! 8)

Hi
You do not need to pay £120 E/W you can use your own kits from Boots
Or someone you know who works in the NHS to get the kits for you free

As Geoff said we might need them I still go whatever

You just book a test at a covid test centre. Book it about 3 days before you go and you will have the results in time. The government encourages testing.

this from the uk gov. web site
If you travel to Greece, you will need to complete a Passenger Locator Form (PLF) at least 24 hours before travel. Failure to do so in advance may result in your carrier not allowing you to travel, a 500 Euro fine on arrival or the Greek authorities not allowing you to enter the country. If you are a permanent resident of Greece, or a Greek citizen, you are also required to complete a PLF form before travelling outside of Greece. See Entry requirements for full details

The Greek government have announced that, from 19 April, arrivals from the UK with proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test, undertaken within the 72 hour period before arrival into Greece, are exempted from the need to self-isolate on arrival to Greece. In addition to this they have announced that UK travellers with proof of two COVID-19 vaccinations completed at least 14 days before travel are also exempt from self-isolation. Until there is means to certify vaccinations for international travel, all travellers should continue to obtain a PCR test as stated above.

Hi

Transport Secretary, Grant Shap, said today, reported on Sky News, that there will be an App for use as a Covid Passport for travel abroad.

It will not be the App currently used to ‘’check in’’ to venues such as pubs and restaurants for contact tracing purposes.

Government sources clarified it will be the App used to book appointments with the NHS and so on, and  will allow Britons to demonstrate whether they have been vaccinated, or tested negative, for the virus before travelling abroad.

You will still need to undergo a Covid test before departure and on return.

Who knows whether things will change, they generally do . There is not a lot of time to have a final decision

Keep safe

Folks

It's looking more & more likely that Greece will be happy for us to visit again this Year by whatever means it takes (Be it a PCR test or Covid Passport - Who knows?)

 - BUT -

I'm still a little unsure as to what we are expected to do on our return?

As Jill & I are still working we certainly can't afford to isolate for however long is expected and as Greece currently has a greater infection rate than the UK unless this drops I can't imagine us returning home without some form of isolation?

I understand that at present the idea is to fill in a PLF again and also take a PCR test prior to departure but wonder where that will be - Arillas or elsewhere?

I guess at the moment no one knows and rules/regs seem to change from week to week.

Fingers crossed by July (& earlier for you early birds) that all is sorted and we can travel safely again?

Hi

As you say things have change quite a few times with anything related to Covid and can do so again.

First step is to  wait till May 17th and find out what colour band Greece is in Green or Green/Amber. At present returning from a Green country there is no need to isolate. Returning from an an amber country you need to isolate for 10 days

A PCR test is currently required before leaving the UK and on returning, which is taken in the UK.

A PLF is required prior to departure and on return. https://www.gov.uk/provide-journey-contact-details-before-travel-uk. Its best to have a smart phone so you can use the QR code you are sent when you are asked to show your PLF.

With Turkey just gone into its first lockdown due to increasing cases of infection this may cause some concern in Greece and in turn the UK.

Keep safe

Hi

Just read in the Mail that for Green countries you will need two covid tests, 1 lateral flow or PCR test  no longer than 72hrs before you return to Britain, and a PCR test on the second day you are back.

For Amber countries you self isolate on return for 10 days and have 3 covid tests. A lateral flow  test or PCR no longer than 72 hrs before leaving for Britain.
A further two PCR tests on the 2nd and 8th days once you are you back. You can pay for a an additional test on day 5 of isolation cutting isolation time if negative. You still have to test on day 8.

All tests will have to be paid for privately

Further reported that many countries need a test before leaving the UK  but  Greece became the first European country to announce that vaccinated Britons will not require any tests to enter.
Portugal ,Spain and France have also indicated they will follow suit

Nothing has actually been officially finalised.

What the papers are reporting as fact (or readers are interpreting as facts), is pure speculation at this stage.

Hi Angiam

There was no intention to imply the story was fact, or fiction. As I said it was reported in the press today. It was a news report I thought worthy of sharing.

Is there anybody who 100% believes every  press report? Many people view an editorial and then look for an any official confirmation.

Take care

Hi Harold

As I understand it you have to use a goverment approved testing facility and Boots are not currently part of the government test to release scheme. Their tests are only for use for outbound flights if the destination requires them.

I also understand that on the return PLF you have to enter the booking reference code for the tests you have pre  booked as proof of your booking. Hopefully this requirement for a test to release will be dropped, or made a lot cheaper, as it will be quite an expence, particularly for families

Sorry but having had covid  I know how easy it is to book a government test at a testing centre.  Why would anyone pay £100 to Boots or anyone else. As I have said before the government encourages testing for free. Why pay?

Hi Sonia

https://www.gov.uk/guidance/how-to-quarantine-when-you-arrive-in-england#testing-in-quarantine

On this link it tells you what to do when returning to England.

Everyone must:
Take a Covid 19 test and get a negative result during the 3 days before you travel.
Book and pay for a travel test package, which will include COVID-19 tests to be taken on or before day 2 and on or after day 8 of your quarantine
Complete a passenger locator form with details of where you will home quarantine when you arrive and the travel test package (if you are arriving from a non red-list country) booking reference number.

As you are flying with TUI you are able to book tests in My Booking.

I imagine you can’t use the NHS system due to the many 100's of 1000's of tests they would be inundated with from returning holiday makers. How the private sector will cope is anybody’s guess. Think it could  be chaos

I think that taking a a COVID-19 test  3 days before you travel back home from Greece maybe a problem. I can imagine spending a day of your holiday queueing somewhere along with hundreds of others to get a test. I hope not. Hopefully it will become clearer later.

Hopefully Greece is on the green list and we will not have to isolate for 10 days. Still need the departure test and a PCR test in the UK though.

Hopefully this will all change. Travel companies are lobbying the government to drop this req’ due to our vaccine programme, and fast reducing death and infection rate. The governments fear  is though that we will bring back infections and in particular new variant strains.

Keep safe

Geoff

The Covid test 3 days prior to departure is what I was referring to in my earlier post (Arillas or elsewhere?)

I'm presuming in Arillas it could possibly be Dr Papadopoulos or the new Chemist but if not then we'd have to travel elsewhere & as you say spend a full day doing so!!??

Presently it all seems to make travelling so difficult (& expensive!!) but I guess it's all for the right reasons.

Last Year Jill & I were among the lucky ones to get to Arillas but at that time the UK was in a worse situation & we were more worried about bringing the virus to Arillas.

This Year it seems that it the other way round and I must admit I'd feel awful if the UK had a 3rd wave and it was proven to be caused by returning holidaymakers!!

Guess we'll have to wait & see what is required and weigh up the pros & cons before travelling?

Take Care

Hi Neil and Jill

In the press today, fact or fiction, I dont know as the government website    https://www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavirus-covid-19-testing-for-people-travelling-to-england  is yet to be updated, the day 3 test has changed a little .

You can now take your own lateral flow test kit, which is the same type used by school children, and can be picked up for free at most chemists.

Originally  you had to be tested under supervision before you left,  but no mention of that requirement this time.
Should be clearer on Friday with the government statement.

These lateral flow tests have always been said  to be inaccurate giving false readings.
Dont know what you would do if it shows a positive result  and you are unable  to fly.
Possibly isolation. Where? How much? Who pays?

Apparently there is no change on the PCR tests you have to take in the UK during isolation days 2 and 8

The press mention the PCR tests at the cost of £50 each. Yet to see them anywhere at that price.

If anybody does please pass on the details

Keep safe

Geoff

Hi
That means you need a negative test to be allowed onto your return flight to the U.K. on the third day before departure.
When in the U.K. you isolate for 10 days.
On day 2 and 8 of your isolation you need to have a PCR test. To be released early from the isolation you need a test on the 5th day of isolation. You still need to have a test on day 8 though.
The day 2 and 8 tests have to be booked  and paid for  in advance and the booking reference to prove to prove you have booked the test entered  onto to P L F form to be able to fly home
That’s of now. Things may change still of course when it’s reviewed in 3 weeks

Will still be going to Skiathos in June, providing of course Greece is amber and not red

Hi

Up till last week you had to take a PCR or lateral flow test to get a negative test before allowed to board the flight home. The test to be taken  under supervision 3 days before departure.
This is a UK requirment for the airline to carry you.

Last week the situation was, according to the press, speculation or not,  you were now  allowed to take your own lateral flow test with you for testing.

As what you do with it I dont know. Who supervises the test I dont know. I have not seen or heard any  reference to this since. Obviously the test has to be validated  by an official body for it to be recognised by the airline to allow you to board.

On the TUI website it states you will not be allowed to fly without a negative test. They said their local reps will assist in the proceedure

Fingers crossed more updates and clarification will be released soon. Just checked the government website and no updates showing.

Keep safe

Geoff

Will feel much more confident if we knew for sure what test is required to come home, where we can get it and for how much. Government site says not NHS test so taking a lateral flow with you will be no good and you have to have proper evidence. Don’t want to spend last days of holiday chasing tests and results

Hi

All very unsettling. If you are on a package, with TUI at least, they say the reps will assist with the pre departure tests.

Something I have seen in the online news this am is that the Transport Minister said the government do not recommend travel to amber countries!!!!!!
With this recommendation it  normally means the airlines do not fly and insurance is not valid.

I did not listen to the Downing Street  announcement yesterday . Did anybody else hear that comment?

Hopefully more clarity will be availble soon.  Due to get my tickets soon, so its wait and see.

Copied this from TUI.  Updated yesterday

From 17th May customers travelling from England will be subject to a new traffic light system with Green, Amber and Red destinations and TUI will operate to a number of destinations categorised in Green and Amber.

The following holidays categorised Green will operate as planned: Algarve, Maderia, Porto Santo.

The following holidays categorised Amber will operate as planned: Crete, Kos, Rhodes, Corfu, Zante, Malta, Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Tenerife, La Palma, St Lucia, Antigua, Barbados, Grenada and Cuba.

TUI Airways will fly from four airports – Gatwick, Manchester, Birmingham and Bristol – between 17 and 27 May.

Keep safe

Geoff

Hi Sonia
I believe you said you are on a flight only with TUI on a previous posting.
As we are with TUI in June just looked at their latest updates on testing costs and their offer for cheaper from the hub that is live from May 10th but, sorry,  found an issue. The cheapest offers only apply to package holidays. Hope I am incorrect that you are flight only.

HOW TO PURCHASE THE PACKAGES

• You’ll be able to purchase the packages through the TUI Chronomics booking hub. You'll find the link to the hub in, Manage My Booking or your Customer Account. This is where you’ll also find more detail on how the testing process works.
• You can purchase the packages from Monday 10 May.
• The packages are available to TUI package holiday customers only. Flight-only and accommodation-only customers can purchase testing kits through our other testing partners, Screen4 and Randox.

WHAT ARE THE PACKAGES?

There are four packages available, as follows:

• GREEN – £20 per person. Contains 1x pre-departure antigen (rapid flow) test for your journey back from your holiday destination and 1x PCR test for day two after you return home.
• GREEN+ – £60 per person. Contains 1x PCR test for your journey to your holiday destination, with courier costs seven days a week included, 1x pre-departure antigen (rapid flow) test and 1x PCR test for day two after you return home.
• AMBER – £50 per person. Contains 1x pre-departure antigen (rapid flow) test and 2x PCR tests for days 2 and 8 after you return home.
• AMBER+ – £90 per person. Contains 1x PCR test for your journey to your holiday destination, with courier costs seven days a week included, 1x pre-departure antigen (rapid flow) test for your journey back from your holiday destination and 2x PCR tests for days 2 and 8 after you return home.

The pre-departure antigen (rapid flow) tests will include test verification and certification to fly back to the UK. As well as the testing packages required for your return to the UK, you can also select kits that include an additional PCR test for your journey to your holiday destination, should that be required by the destination you’re travelling to.

Keep safe

Geoff

Thanks Geoff we are flight only. I love how you read all these things - saves me doing it. £90 is not too bad for all the tests and courier etc. Talking to the family we stay with in Corfu and they are very optimistic that Corfu will change to Green as they have increased their vaccination programme.  It is ridiculous that all the islands have been clumped in with the mainland.

Its the same as Spain last year, as initially the islands were treated as the mainland, all red

See link below
https://www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavirus-covid-19-testing-for-people-travelling-to-england

TUI's website says you will denied boarding without a negative test

There was a report in the UK's press last week you could take an NHS flow test (which is free) with you to use . No more info seems to have been forthcoming.

Where you take a test , who authorises it etc still seems a bit of a mystery.

This is also worrying- see link below. It states that in addition to the predrparture covid test that you will also be tested on arrival in Corfu and if  anyone on your flight bus or train tests positive you may also have to quarntine in Corfu

Hi

Not many people are talking about the Fit To Travel Certificate which  you have to have before you can enter Greece, and many other countries.
You have to have a negative test 3 days prior to leaving the UK.

https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/greece/entry-requirements. Extract below

If travelling by air, land or sea to Greece, you must provide evidence of a negative result from a PCR test for COVID-19 that has been conducted within the 72 hour period before your arrival time in Greece. Failure to do so may result in your carrier not allowing you to travel and will likely result in the Greek authorities refusing you permission to enter Greece.

The Greek government have announced that, from 19 April, arrivals from the UK with proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test, undertaken within the 72 hour period before arrival into Greece are exempted from the need to self-isolate on arrival to Greece. In addition to this they have announced that UK travellers with proof of two COVID-19 vaccinations completed at least 14 days before travel are also exempt from self-isolation. Until there is means to certify vaccinations for international travel, all travellers should continue to obtain a PCR test as stated above.

I have not found a definative answer to what  proof of vaccination allowing entry into Greece without a PCR test is acceptable.
I have read in the UK press and the Keep Talking Greece press that Greece will accept proof of vaccination with no need for a Fit To Travel Test.
Will our NHS app provide the proof the Greeks need?

If anybody has any info I would be pleased to hear. If I get to Greece this June dont fancy being denied entry because the NHS app is not acceptable

Keep safe

Geoff

I think that All visitors to Greece must have a negative PCR test taken 72 hours before departure from UK... And equally important is the fact that you have to have a negative PCR test taken in Greece before you return to the UK. My big worry is where in Corfu can you take a test?  With so many UK visitors, the demand for these tests will be huge. Will there be special transport laid on to such testing labs if the only clinics and labs are in Corfu Town?.

At the moment you have to wear a mask while outdoors in Greece,as well as in stores etc. a 300 euro fine for anyone not wearing one(if caught)

That is my worry too. Our hosts state UK have said that the lateral flow tests by Greek authorities will be accepted.  Even if Corfu goes on the green list then at present a PCR test before return home  is still required. I have also been told that there are many PCR test centres on the island.

Corfu: Alarming increase in covid-19 cases
Updated: 15 hours ago

Experts are concerned about the growth rates of covid-19 cases in Corfu in the last two 24 hours. The examinations by both EODY and the Hospital, record dozens of cases after today's, Monday, examinations.

EODY announced 21 cases in the last 24 hours, however, many of today's recordings are expected to be added to tomorrow's announcement.

In the Corfu hospital alone, until Monday morning, 15 cases had been confirmed through molecular PCR control, which were performed on patients who came to either the emergency or outpatient clinics or were admitted for treatment. It should be noted that due to workload, the EODY team has been withdrawn from the Hospital for weeks, as a result of which those who enter the island's nursing home as escorts are no longer controlled, only those who are finally admitted, a control done by the same the GNC.

An outbreak is also observed in Othonos, with at least 5 cases having been recorded in the last two 24 hours, with the result that tomorrow it will rush to the island of Akriti for extensive inspections.

The 15 cases in Pavliana and the 5 in Skripero after the current controls of EODY, are added to the 4 and the 5 cases respectively (which were recorded until Saturday), while another 7 cases were recorded from the scale that did the tests outside the Municipal Theater is still raising the number, while three students today declared a positive test with the reopening of schools.

In Corfu: EODY reports 53 known new positive cases today in Corfu bringing the total so far this month to 197.

Too many. 😢

In Greece: New virus infections jump to 3,197

The number of new infections announced by Greek health authorities jumped to 3,197 on Tuesday versus 1,904 on Monday.

This raised the total number of confirmed cases to 367,076, the National Organization for Public Health (EODY) said in its daily bulletin.

The data showed 52 patients died from Covid-19, raising the total number of fatalities to 11,141. The total number of intubated patients remained stable at 732. Their median age was 67.

Hi Sonia
The £90 test ftom TUI includes the pre return home kit but as you know it is for package deal customers only.
AMBER+ – £90 per person. Contains 1x PCR test for your journey to your holiday destination, with courier costs seven days a week included, 1x pre-departure antigen (rapid flow) test for your journey back from your holiday destination and 2x PCR tests for days 2 and 8 after you return home.

Have a look at this company who provide what they call  Test to Release Home COVID-19 Test Kit £98

Hi, just an update re the PCR test hoopla. As I understand it, the Greek govt has stated that all UK visitors must provide proof of a negative PCR test taken no less than 72 hours of arrival... BUT, they have also announced that proof of completed vaccination course ( 2 jabs) will also be acceptable. For those that have had 2 jabs, from Monday 17th, an individuals vaccination records will be available to get uploaded on to the NHS app on your smartphone / tablet. This app is not to be confused with the NHS covid 19 track and trace app. For those who don't want to rely on technology, you can get an official NHS vaccination certificate by phoning 119. I think you will need your NHS number and then the system will then contact your GP who will issue the all important paperwork. You must not contact your GP directly, that's not how it works. This I think is progress... however, the big show stopper is the UK govt requirement for all returning visitors to have a negative PCR test taken 72 hours before returning to the UK. I have only managed to find one clinic / lab on Corfu that offers this service. They are called THERAPIA, based in Corfu Town, open 24 /7 and they are offering tests for €50. Maybe someone might like to check them out?.. Hope this info helps? Things change daily so in a few weeks it may all be very different.

Hi

Just heard on the news that there is concern that the private test centre's will be overwhelmed with tests, especially as 100's of 1000's are submitted for the Fit To Travel Test, if required for your destination, and will find it difficult to keep up with the demand.

Many thanks for finding this other establishment where we can get tested, however, no mention of price!... I would hope that one of the local travel companies in Arillas would be organising group trips to such a lab or clinic, because as these are mostly likely to be in Corfu Town, the return taxi  costs will add another €100 to the PCR experience!... Thanks again... Jon Bell

Hi

Just read in a travel item in the press that you can order a Return Home test from Qured for £39.
You order a kit before you leave the UK
3 days before you depart you have a video consultation with a nurse. Results are available in 15 mins and a GP signed travel certificate is delivered by e mail.

Hi
You do not need to pay £120 E/W you can use your own kits from Boots
Or someone you know who works in the NHS to get the kits for you free

I thought that NHS ones were not being accepted to stop people misuing it?

As Geoff said we might need them I still go whatever

Those are lateral flow ones though and it is PCR ones that are needed. It's ok Greece saying they will accept vaccination certificates but our gov are stating you must have a PCR test 72 hours before departure and I wonder therefore if they will let you on the plane UK side without one.

Hi

The Fit to Fly Test is a Greek requirement, as the Return to UK Test is a UK requirement.

If Greece are prepared to accept proof of vaccination for entry, then there should not be a requirement for a PCR test as in the Greek requirements of entry in our governments advice:
https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/greece/entry-requirements.

The Greek government have announced that, from 19 April, arrivals from the UK with proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test, undertaken within the 72 hour period before arrival into Greece are exempted from the need to self-isolate on arrival to Greece. In addition to this they have announced that UK travellers with proof of two COVID-19 vaccinations completed at least 14 days before travel are also exempt from self-isolation (see Demonstrating your COVID-19 vaccination status). Until there is means to certify vaccinations for international travel, all travellers should continue to obtain a PCR test as stated above.

Keep safe

If you have had 2 jabs at least 14 days before you travel, you can get your jab details and all your other NHS records downloaded to your phone or tablet via the NHS app. This app is not to be confused with the NHS covid 19 track and trace app. You will need your NHS number, your smart phone or tablet and then follow the instructions...its pretty simple to do and believe me, if I can do it, anyone can ! I downloaded the app, requested my vaccination details and the next day, my vaccination  dates, vaccine manufacturer and batch numbers were downloaded on my phone...Oh so useful and its what we have been waiting for. As I understand it, you can also request a paper copy of the same details as backup, so if your phone battery dies or you cant get a signal, you can produce the offical NHS vacccination certificate. The Gov.uk website states that the free packs of 7 NHS antigen tests that you can pick up almost anywhere, I got some at Bham New St station,  CANNOT be used abroad...you still have to find a clinic or lab on Corfu that can provide either a PCR test or a lateral flow test, which meets the UK Gov standards. At  the moment, it seems as though this could be something of a showstopper..lets hope this issue is being addressed and regional and local testing facilities will be available, otherwise many potential visitors simply wont want to take the risk....Jon.

* The use of non-medical face masks is mandatory indoors and outdoors throughout Greece. The above restriction does not apply to:
    1. individuals for whom wearing a face mask is not recommended on account of their documented medical condition, e.g. respiratory problems, and
    2. children under the age of four (4).

Harold, here's some info about mask wearing from someone living in Corfu, as they posted in a FB  forum,  confirming what Eggy posted and what I read on the Greek gov web site.

"For the past few months it has been masks outside everywhere.
If I walk my dogs on the beach and there's nobody around I still have to wear one or face a 300 euro fine.
Hopefully, common sense will prevail so at least you won't need one laying on a sunbed, but this is Greece, so who knows."

I don't know how strictly it's policed but everyone should, and needs to know.

We're due to fly to Corfu on 19th June for 2 weeks. Yippeee!.
Only problem is we need a proof of a positive Covid-19 test 2 / 3 days before we fly back into England.
Does anyone know how I can get this whilst in Arillas, or do we have to go to Sidari or Corfu Town?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well and truly fed up now if this is going to be the case. We have all followed the rules, got vaccinated with god knows what long-term side effects yet we still don’t get any freedom. It’s the uncertainty that is the worst thing. They should have said deffo no foreign travel or only fully vaccinated allowed to travel with negative test before being let back into the UK.

It's going to hit everyone involved the travel industries very hard & it is very disappointing. We have held on to a faint glimmer of hope that we might be going. We have all been vaccinated & followed the rules.
I fear that next year when we can travel there won't be anywhere to go because everywhere will have gone bust.

I don't think Greece, or Corfu was ever going to be on the Green List this time round. Regardless of the situation in UK recent articles have publicised the poor take up of the vaccine in Corfu, and this is one of the criteria the UK govt look at. Also several reports of enforced school closures and of UK tourists ignoring the mask wearing regulations in Corfu won't help.
I have booked for July and am hoping that Corfu goes Green at the next review in three weeks time but it depends on the situation in Greece as much as the situation at home.
All we can do is cross our fingers, agree to follow whatever rules are imposed at home and in Greece and hope for the best.

The plan of Boris Johnson, blessings and peace be upon him, is to keep all UK folk in the UK. This puts extra pennies in the UK pot and keeps those pennies in the UK. (Go to Butlins...e3500 for 2 weeks!)
He makes life dificult for those who want to return to the real World, and have freedom of choice.

I find it very sad to see a 28 deg Arillas and a deserted beach with many Tavernas open now but few guests to use them. We are pretty damm safe, here,  thanks to treating Covid with respect.
But... the UK Goverment dictate where you can go , with ease, and slap these extra restrictions (pressures) on you guys who just want to take a well earned break.
(Possible Insurance problems, isolation on return?? - They are 'aving a laff!!!
We seem to be prisoners in whatever Country we reside in. It is just as difficult to get from Corfu to the UK.
So..... bottom line .... when is Greece open for UK TOURISM?
And .. forgive me if I am not up to date with what UK Parliament have decided.
Cheers

The UK govt will review the traffic light system for foreign travel on 28/6...but it must be obvious to everyone that the UK govt is totally paranoid about introducing new strains of covid into the UK. This is despite the fact that so many have had two jabs and are therefore very unlikely to do so. Therefore the Amber smoke screen is their way of saying we really don't want anyone to have overseas holidays this year, stay home and boost our own economy, and by keeping all popular holiday hotspots on the Amber list, and imposing isolation rules, they make it very difficult for so many to enjoy a long overdue and much needed break. Grant Shapps would not agree, but to everyone else with a single brain cell, we know what they are trying to do. .. Jon Bell

HI

Anyone travelling to Greece must comply with the Greek authorities’ requirements, including completion of a Passenger Locator Form (PLF) before you travel (both into and out of Greece). Read this section of the travel advice in full and check Greek authorities’ advice to understand how these requirements apply to you.

You must wear a face mask at all times when on an aeroplane, bus, train or ferry travelling to or from Greece; and whilst at airports.

The following measures are in place with respect to travel to Greece:

Travellers must fill in a Passenger Locator Form (PLF) no later than 11.59 PM of the day before arriving in Greece. Please see below for further guidance on the Passenger Locator Form.
Arrivals from the UK must provide either; proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test, undertaken within the 72 hour period before arrival into Greece, or proof of two COVID-19 vaccinations completed at least 14 days before travel (see Demonstrating your COVID-19 vaccination status). Travellers with proof of either are exempted from the need to self-isolate on arrival to Greece.

l (see Demonstrating your COVID-19 vaccination status).

If you live in England, Greece will accept the NHS app or your NHS letter to demonstrate your COVID-19 vaccination status. You should not use your NHS vaccine appointment card to demonstrate your vaccine status.

Passenger Locator Form
You must complete an online Passenger Locator Form (PLF) at least 24 hours before your arrival in Greece.

Hi

Another point you have to remember is one I have mentioned on another post

Entry rules in response to coronavirus (COVID-19)
See https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/greece/entry-requirements. Click on Entry Requirements

You should also be aware that if other passengers on your flight, bus, train or ferry later test positive, you may be subject to further quarantine/self isolation requirements. These will be mandatory and you should comply with the Greek authorities’ requirements.

If you look at the Summary section it states Still current at  4 June 2021

The Greek  authorities can do spot checks  and  know where you are stopping via the PLF form

Keep safe

Geoff

The UK gov has not moved any countries from Amber to Green. So what happens now, will all flights be cancelled for the rest of June, to Greece.
Portugal has been moved to Amber with the chaos of people trying get back, before the deadline.

I believe as it stands at the moment (could all change before August), you don't need a test before you go to Corfu, if you've had both your jabs more than 14 days prior to departure.
You also need to fill out a PLF before you go, stating where you're staying in Greece.

HI Kev

This week the EU are due to confirm their Vaccine Passport that will allow all EU citizens to travel free of any tests and quarantine throughout the EU.
The UK, with some other countries, are expected to be added to that list .
but
Individual EU countries are free to make their own rules. Greece and Spain have agreed  to let in UK citizens with proof of 2 vaccinations 14 days before arrival.

So if you have not done so,  you will need to  download the NHS England App ( not test and trace) where you will see a QR code showing proof of vaccination.

Dont forget the PLF

Hope that helps

Keep safe

Geoff

It takes few days for the NHS app to catch up with your records. My vaccinations took 5 days the first and 2 days for the second one to show. ;)

Don't know if this will help, but if you have smart phone or tablet, people should download the NHS app... This is different from the NHS covid 19 track and trace app. The NHS app once installed on your device will contain not only your jab details, but also your medical records, prescriptions and the ability to reorder. So useful, not only when in the UK, but could be invaluable when abroad.

Absolute cazillions of cash has been thrown at the NHS to produce this, yet its never promoted and so few know of it.... and that includes Dr's receptionists!  Greece will admit you in, providing you have proof of having  2 jabs at least 14 before flying in, and the NHS app will provide that.

Also, as at today, when returning to the UK, you have to have purchased in advance your day 2 and day 8 PCR test kit's. I am flying in next week with Ryanair, and they have an arrangement with a pharmaceutical company called Randox, whereby these can be bought in advance at a discounted rate. Mine cost me £120 for the 2 and they arrived within 24 hours. These PCR kits all have a unique ref number which I believe you have to include on your UK PLF which you have to complete before you fly home, so if you are an independent traveller, plan ahead.

I think most airlines or tour companies will offer these to travellers at discounted rates as its a mandatory requirement for people returning to the UK.

Fingers crossed at the  next review, Greece gets on the green list, so only a day 2 PCR is required. Hope this helps, but a reminder to get the NHS app installed... Jon Bell

Hi Ger
You have to wait for the system to prove you identity the way you did it. It can take several days.
I got fed up waiting and went to my GP reception.
Take proof of identity, passport or driving licence, and ask for online access to your medical records. Complete the form supplied. Select all the boxes asking what you want access to.
My practice sends you  a text  with the access codes you need. Val's practice gave them to her there and then
The codes are only valid for 5 days

Download the NHS England App, not test and trace one as Jon B said

Click on the NHS App and complete your details. When asked do you have a letter from your GP, click Yes.
Enter the codes you have been given.
Access to your records is more or less instant

Keep safe

Geoff

As Jon B says you must purchase your day 2 and day 8 isolation PCR tests before you depart Greece if still amber. The test ref number has to be entered on the PLF otherwise you will not be allowed to board the return flight.

If Corfu is  green you only need a negative PCR test to leave and return home. Failure to get one 3 days before you depart means you will not be allowed to board  the return flight.

Keep safe

Hi

The EU did not include the UK on their vaccine passport due to start on July 1st  because of the  the Indian variant .They did allow Iceland and and Norway to join.

Immaterial now as Greece will accept our passport anyway.

Hi

Almost there. If I can help let me know. I found it easier to delete the original app I had downloaded . When I got the codes from GP downloaded the app again and started afresh. Click  yes to doctors letter and no problem.
Make sure you tick all the check list on the doctors form to be sure you get access to what you want.

Hi
I'm wondering if anyone from Wales has used the Welsh Government vaccine letter as opposed to getting a PCR test and also if anyone has flown from Bristol recently. It's not very clear online
