Really annoyed , last 5 days has seen small globuals of oil wasbed ashore affecting all local beaches ,even with the greatest of care it is difficult to avoid treading on the infernal stuff already ruined two new beach towels also its a bugger to remove from the feet, please beware when walking on the beach as this issue will put a crimp on your wonderful day.

Please give more details Intentioncraft. I have never known anything like it in 12 years of visiting every corner of the beach. Can you say where it was exactly - opposite the Jetty, to the left, at the far end etc etc. Our local hosts will want to address this and solve it as soon as they can.

Hope your Arillas experience was as good as the rest of us always have. You must have loved the food............

First   noticed oil 6 days ago on the north beach, was evident every day we visited , both the wife and i picked it up on our feet on each visit, yesterday we went to san stefanos beach for a change of scenery and found similair conditions with oil deposits, best solution we found was pumice stone and detergent.

Called on Dimitris today with a sample of the oil deposit found on the north beach, tells me he will investigate further,I sincerily hope this is just an isolated event, the north beach has recently had some bad press, enough said.

I also picked up some oil on my feet in May. It was only a one off and from the beach in front of Kaloudis. I guess this happens from time to time but good to know it's being monitored.

A similar thing ocurred a few years back and the Arillas Community were straight on the beach limiting as much damage as they possibly could. Everything was back to normal in 24 hours. It was the fault of the Cruise ships if I remember rightly.

We were in Arillas 2-15 June.  Had a walk alonng the beach in either direction on most days.  In the second week we also noticed a black oily film on the sand right at the water's edge.  There was some evidence towards the south beach but we mainly noticed it on the North beach.  'Fraid we just put it down to 'one of things' and picked our way through. Never thought to mention it on the forum.

I'll do better in future...

We came home on Monday but sunday I also stood in a small amount of oil and also had it on my towel, it comes of your feet with a babywipe easily, we were infront of effies, returning home sprayed a lubricant on it, rubbed, rinsed and washed and it came off.

We haven't noticed any oil on north beach we have been on every day since 29th June. Our friends have noticed some in San Steph. It comes off with mossie spray with 50% deet from flip flops and feet.

Can say that yes there are bits on the beaches in the area..  Managed to step in some on San stephanos beach the other day.... Had no idea I had done it until I put flip flops on then a little later washed feet to come off beach..noticed big black stain on new beach shoes and then of course on my foot......came off for with nail varnish remover.. Well almost!... .flipflop are another matter...ruined.... Not a happy bunny but hey Ho...not the end of the world.
