Please join me in wishing Klaudio the greatest possible success with the Corfu Beer Festival, starting tomorrow, 9th October and lasting for five days. I wish I could be there, but also hope it will be so successful this year that it becomes an annual event. (Selfish - so I can be there next year!)

If you support it, just post a good wish for them.

I saw Spiros and Claudio preparing for the festival last week, and Spiros said he hopes it will be an annual event. He would like next years to have a British theme and wants to make contact with members of CAMRA.

Good luck guy's! I'm a CAMRA member but I won't be over until 21st Oct, I hope there will be some left?!!

Ok,here is my report.
This festival was 5 days long so we went the opening night and the last night. They did lay on a mini bus from the cross roads in Arillas which was free.the first night we walked up the hill to the festival getting there about 1815 for a 1900 opening. When we arrived they were  still setting things up,so we had a wander around looking at the different stalls and beer counters, you had the two Corfu real ales and quite a lot(about 6 ithink)of Bavarian drinks mostly wheat beers. We found out that you had to buy tickets before anything else to be able to get any stuff onsite.Due to Greece having two rates of VAT 23% on drink and clothing and 13% on food and sweets etc.We had to buy red tickets for the beer and clothing and blue tickets for everything else.1 and 1/2 Euros per ticket.A small beer was 1 red ticket and  a large one was 2.Corfu meets Bavaria baseball caps were 4 red tickets (6 euro) food started a 1 blue ticket for a Pretsel or German sausage.I have the Honor of being the first person Ever to buy a ticket,we bought 10 red and 10 blue.Sadly the people doing the Barbi did not light it till the festival had started so they ended up with huge queues. When the Mayor of Kerkyra Arrived and cut the ribbon we were all allowed back in.Local police were in attenance organising the traffic(i will leave that to your imaginations)or ask spicelady lol.The local band played the mayor in and then we had the opening speeces sadly in just Greek and German.the speeces lasted about 1hour.Then the music started.First a local band then the village dancers. This took us upto about 2130,when due to thunder being about we decided to walk back so did not see the Bavarian dancing which was just amazing by all accounts. We did see the fireworks though.I would say on that opening night about 2000 people attented.Christine and Sally when about the different stalls trying the free comquats and turkish delight also buying things with the blue tickets while Chris and I sat watching the show oh and drinking beer. The last two nights were attended by about 3000 people each night, including ourselves on the last night. We got up there by the free minin bus and down again the same way.We arrived about 2000hrs just in time for the Opera and as it was the last night the Village dancing would close the show. After the Opera was the Bavarian dancers in laderhose and long flowing dresses that spun out when the women danced making a complete circle at about waist hight truely amazing(anyone call me Craig will be shot). Then we had the Greek dancers all dressed in black, doing Zorba and other well know dancers these were again amazing.Lastly the Village dancers all in traditional costumes what a sight to see,and again truely amazing dances. After the program all the dancers got onstage and just kept on dancing how they all got on the stage is anyones guess.
yes a few things could be improved like starting the barbeque earlier, but at the end of the day this was the first ever Beer festival and a fantastic job was made by everyone involve,Greece a/Corfu at its best.
Thanks for making our holiday truely memorable.

This sounds like a fantastic event and what a great idea to get Arillas some more visitors. Sounds like there is someone for everyone to enjoy eben for us non beer drinkers!
