Our family are still stuck in amsterdam we think, now they were coming from New york and got as far as amsterdam last thurday morning, we had a message through yesterday that they were getting a ferry across to the uk on thursday, so it will have taken them a week to get to the uk , their return flights are from manchester on the 27th, one other family member was due to land tomorrow from new york, I dont think she will make her grandmas 100th birthday on saturday

Hopefully with the possible lifting in part of restrictions tomorrow, the airlines and scientists can collect some serious data on what is happening away from Iceland. What effect it has on planes not flying directly through the plume. With this data it will help them decide in the coming weeks and months, should the volcano increases its activity again, whether further blanket bans are needed or if flight paths simply need correcting. Fingers crossed the worst is over.

would it be a shame if we got out to Arillas and the volcano started to blow again and we got stuck in Arillas for another week or two?  I don't think so.

Sounds like the airlines pressure on NATS is paying off, some flights are starting Tuesdayat about 1600 hrs from London.Did find some grey ash type material on our outdoor seats two days ago so looks like the ash reached sunny Devon.
Harold,
Theres only one Altrincham FC

Wonder if they can guide some of the sand particles in the ash to the beach in Arillas?

Ivan

Well I took the bull by the horns today and booked the car Larne/Cairnryan, then N'castle/ Amsterdam and then Venice/Corfu for the start of June. If the planes are flying by then I'll transfer the flights to September, if not I'll have a refund. Sod them all, I'm having my holiday!

After spending most of the day on the internet & trying to get through to Easyjet,  we are now booked onto next Monday's flight. I was hoping it would be Fridays, but it wasn't available. I guess we could have flown to Gatwick, but the car is parked at Bristol & there was no charge to fly to there.
So, I'm here for another week :) I'll try & get some more pics for you all.

When do you hope to get out here Eileen? Maybe we'll get together after all!!

Hi Sara,
You just make the best of it, after all you're the lucky one
being stuck in the right place!
Looking forward to more of your beautiful photos.

Well done Ivan. We're in Venice tonight catching the ferry to Corfu tomorrow. We've done the drive a few times now so please ask if you need any advice.

Whereas I totally sympathise with the enormous inconvenience of this travel chaos, I think that harold's post about finding volcano ash on his seat very scary! Let them err on the side of caution i say!

Sara

I agree Jo. Even if we could have flown home last night, I would have been very nervous throughout the flight ....... better safe than sorry.

Sara, I'm glad to see you've got your flight fixed. Another week isn't too bad, hopefully the weather will improve a bit too. I'm sure all will toddle along for a week without you both. Hopefully no problems with 'the cloud' by then.

Well bless Alec and Caroline who took my offer of my Suzuki on loan and were on the Ferry to Venice this morning at 6am.
