Hi!
Anyone know what the mozzie population is like in October? I got well munched in May despite my Jungle Formula till Mary recommended a rub on deterrent! Mostly feet and ankles and at night, but also forehead and neck! Deet (think that's how it's spelled) seemed to discourage the little b*****s!
Yammas,
Martin.

Hi Martin. Jen finds that 50% DEET is the only answer. She uses the spray these days, and always keeps feet and ankles covered in the evenings when out eating etc. In our last eight weeks in Arillas she has only been bitten about six times, usually when defences were down. She swears by Boots Jungle Formula, and it has really helped her.

They never touch me...

Have a great time in October - sounds like  you'll meet up with JohnTheRef and riggers. What a trio! Wish I could make it four...

Course they do Phil. You have created a new strain of mozzie here.
It's called the "Black Russian Sucker" and can be easily recognised by the failure to fly in a straight line. This strain are resilient little pests and eagerly await the return of you and Jen.
( As we all do matey! )

Getting back to the usual Mozzie. - I'm sure we must build up a resistance to them, living here. I've had a couple of bites and although I get the little "bump" and a few seconds of itching , within 30 mins or so. it ceases to become a problem.
But I do spray the "Superdrug Hi=Strength Buzz off" when working outside during the day.

Martin, I never find the mozzies as bad in October, but it's still worth taking precautions when you go out in the evenings!!

I tried Avon's Skin So Soft after someone recommended it to me ,I must say I was a wee bit skeptical but in the two weeks we were in Arillas at the beginning of July, I only had two small bites.
So this gets my vote for now :)

stay safe

Hi Phil
Like your Jen I now use Boots Jungle Formula with 50% deet, as I find the mosquit-ex a bit hard to find shops that sell it but I think I'm a bit obsessive I went on their website and noted down the ingrediants and the Boots one has almost identical ones, especially the main one Deet.
Martin years ago I went to Kavos  the last week in October and although the rep said beware the mozzies are still about, neither me  or my friend Gail got bit once and we never used any repellents. Saying that though I would still use  a reppellant.

Hi All!
Thanks for the advice. I will keep a good supply of repellents handy. Sandy, I hope you are right about not being so bad in October!
Phil, it would be great to have you along with Riggers and John &Dot, maybe some other time!
Yammas,
Martin.

Our son in law owns a company that specialises in producing fly pheromones (hope I've spelled it correctly!)  It's something to do with attracting (or detracting?) flies...
Even HE gets bitten when they go abroad...
We always have a jungle formula plug in in our room, although I didn't know that it didn't kill the mozzies and I've used their wipes on an evening.  I'm usually the one that gets bitten badly, but this May it was Barry who suffered more.  I like Mary's idea of the rub on rather than repellant spray - makes more sense

MaryH

Hi Janis
I think with the rub on repellants, especially the creams, the more you put them on they seem to sink in each day and build you up a resistance well that's my theory. I now always start putting it on the day I fly in the UK. See Arillas is brilliant, even though  one of the things Corfu is famous for is it's mosquitoes,  it doesn't stop us from coming back.

well after 12 years and smugly thinking we have immmunity from the little buggers, and despite taking Vit B, lathering ourselves in Jungle formula, Autan, Skin so soft, liquid plug ins, we got ravaged this year as did most of my friends and family.  The wird thing is, Harry didnt get a single one! And guess who didnt use anything the entire fortnight?!

Janis

That's such a shame, Jo - bet it didn't detract from the whole Arillas/renewal of vows experience though!  Great photos on Facebook by the way - I couldn't comment - "it" wasn't allowing me to...??

riggers
