Easyjet aren't that good.
« on: January 21, 2009, 03:52:16 PM »
I live in South Staffordshire with my family, we have a choice of airports to travel from when we want to come to Arillas. I was recently getting worried because I bought my flight tickets to Corfu in August last September. I recently saw that Easyjet were flying from Manchester to Corfu. It is only an extra 45  journey to Manchester as opposed to Birmingham or East midlands and I decided to check prices to see how much I could have saved if I'd waited until now and then booked with Easyjet. I ws pleased to find that I have saved about £100 by booking direct with Thomas Cook. Easyjet seems great if you are booking to travel outside of the main season, but those of us who have children and we don't want to take them out of school, then easyjet isn't that good. If I'd waited for Easyjet to announce their prices I'd have had the extra expence of car parking, the fuel to get to manchester and the extra journey time.

Luckily there are few different airlines that fly to Corfu so that everyone can get a best deal for them. Glad you got you and your family a good deal sorted with TC.

Easy Jet is nice and convenient for an independent traveller like me :).
Life is good ;)

The thing is with Easyjet, the prices change constantly, depending on demand.
I've just checked prices for August and they are currently double what they were when they came out a couple of weeks ago. I've no doubt they'll keep changing from now until the day of the flight. We're just going to keep a eye on them and if they drop again we'll probably book.
Having said that, they're still about £100 per head cheaper than we paid last year!!

As someone who is restricted to school holidays also, I always have to pay top whack and  for rubbish flight times which is no fun when you have 3 kids.  This year however i managed to get daytime flights for 2 weeks from 21st July for £720. I keep saying it because I am sooo pleased!! I think as has been said, you need to book as soon as they come out as they have gone up a lot since then.

I have been praying for the day Easyjet would fly from Manchester and finally it has arrived..However  their cost of flights is up and down like a fiddlers elbow...

Ihave caculated flight only with easyjet from Manchester for the two of us for Sept/Oct,add on taxi transfer & 2 weeks independent accomodation..cost (taking the exchange rate into account) £749.00
..compare with Thomas Cooke 2 weeks Hotel b & b inc. transfers.   £715.00 ..

We prefer the independent, but even with Easyjet low flight costs it should be a no brainer.!!!
The added security of using the travel companies and knowing there is someone to  fall back on in case of problems is a big factor..
Comments welcome.....

BTW  We travel in May Independently (booked last October)and the flights cost us an arm and a leg...(Our Choice) ..

hi kes
That is exactly the dilemma. We always try to go independent, but have taken package deals in the past when they are like the one you talk about. Nothing wrong with that.

We are in turbulent family times right now, but wish we'd speculated on the EasyJet from Bristol when first announced. It was 80GBP each return then, for three weeks starting early July. Even if we'd lost it, so what? The price is a LOT more now.

We know we will go home (ie to Arillas) because we couldn't get through a whole year without going. We will end up paying a lot more I bet. Silly us.

Jen is the eternal optimist - we've always found a way in the past and she is convinced it will work this time. But you have a point - the choice between independent and package can be much more complicated than it seems.

We are still trying to find a decent flight for this June.  Easyjet fly from Gatwick at 0555 hours, which is much too early for my liking, and not too cheap either, but maybe we'll have no choice.  Gatwick is over 60 miles away too.  What annoys me is that we live a very convenient distance from both Luton and Stansted but no suitable flights from either, unless we want to change in Athens!

We have booked flight only from Belfast 29th June, it's costing £725 for two.  A lot dearer than last year but flying to England for flights is too much hassle and could require overnight stops. We could probably have saved by booking a package but we prefer the independent route and like to see the accommodation owners benefit from direct bookings.  Anyway I can now relax and spend the next few months looking forward to beautiful Arillas.

We feel exactly the same. We will almost certainly be there after 6 July. Please come up and say hello. I don't hear many Irish accents since mum died and really do miss it. You see, the Irish can always spot a good thing when it's on offer. We too will

Ah kevin and kay. We knew there was more - we only had a couple of hours together last year. What a shame. I love Donegal...

Jen is born and bred Gravesend, but I am the son of an Irish woman and dad's mum was Irish too. I even have the chin to prove it!

Mum was an immigrant who lied about her age (she was 15, but was so determined to move on) so she joined the British army. I only found out when she died at 75. The Irish are very good at that sort of thing. Catholic silence...

Me? I inherited the craic - the party spirit, the drink. Most of my Irish uncles died from drinking. A lot younger than me. Partying we are good at.

So wish we could meet yous two in Arillas again.
Phil
