Dan....even now, if my daughter gets drunk she chatters away in Romanian.....it's amazing how quickly she picked up your language. All I can remember is multsumesc! And for those of you who don't know, that doesn't mean pass me the vodka please!

Sandy , multumesc in Romanian is like a strong and definitive thanks in English. my impression is that your daughter already grab the vodka bottle couple of times as, she repeated multumesc, - that mean si already drunk many times from the bottle...
and is a real scenario also here in Romania, you don't have to ask for the bottle, you'll see it coming in your hand...and all what you have to do is to take a strong shot and say MULTUMESC...))
and believe me here we have some very strong home made drinks -I'm thinking to get some with me in Corfu, but I'm afraid that the check guys from the custom will put me in jail and will drink all my stuff.. and will sent me back home to bring more...

P.S - the destiny is implacable- i just booked also the plane tickets to Corfu ... now I'm counting...the remaining days...

Dan
the customs guys here steal your cigarettes and get away with it. Perhaps Romania is not much different to the UK.

I meant it - bring your family to dinner with us in Spetember, in the Thalassa with Giannis Litsa and brother Sprios. they will change your mind...

love

You've booked your flights as well, thats brilliant Dan... You are almost there!

You could teach us some Romanian before we get there.. What is Hello? So with thanks we shall know two words.

So to say it simple and complicate
Hello- in romanian might be understood as buna ziua ( latin origin ) - like buenos dias, bon giorno for example, - complicate form

hello- salut like saluti in simple form

we have also variants derived form the heterogeneity of the languages spoken here - servus from Hungarian,

Hm, i think everybody is busy to reply to  my hello, salut or buenos dias...
By the way here in Oradea the weather is miserable -all the day we had rain, wind and low temperatures....
what can be the place I'm thinking on?
Good night everyone...
Dan

Hello and Welcome Dandett :-)

I've not been to Romania but I've enjoyed reading the exchanges between yourself and Sandy.

If you want strong drinks then I suggest you go along to the Portofino and ask the rogue Spiros for some of his.  My stomach and heart sinks each time he brings the bottle over after our meal, because it means that I have to drink Keith's share as he refuses point blank to drink it!!!

I feel a hang-over coming on just thinking about it...

Buna ziua
Ce faceti azi ? - how are you doing today ?

i don't like strong drinks, but i like a very simple and fresh wine.. in romania we still use to make wine ( in the country only ) for our own use, so i'll be able to say if the home made greek wine is a real one or a fake ..)) i'm sure is a real one...
in fact i had in university some greek mates which learned me how to drink their wine.
you have to stay on a tavern starting from late evening, with a backgammon game in front of you  which is played in a specific way so that it can be lasting all the night, so here is the catch. you have to play and to stay all the night and what else you can do... of course you have to drink all the wine....
