Title: What 1 thing would you change about Arillas if u had the power to?(If anything!)

However as you are staying at Bardis studios this time you will be able to take advantage of the washing service which they offer. I can't remember how much it was but I think it was only either 5 or 7 Euros for a large load.

Arillas is beautiful as we all know but it does get me upset walking past it everyday seeing all the rubbish inside etc....

One unit has opened so l do hope it's the start of a renewal, do you remember the Chinese restaurant? I don't really miss it (it's been gone a long time) but like the pizza place it made a change for families.

I will say though the Arilla Inn looks a lot better since they cleared all the overgrown vines from the inside, in winter it's used for storing the sun beds from the beach....but when empty it's still an eyesore.

All I kept thinking was how on EARTH could you jump around in this heat lol. There is a small one just before Yiota's shop which mine used to use when they were little.

They must have put the trampolines up after May when we were there . As we are there in August this year they may well be up then. :-)

It's the only thing that spoils Arillas for me and many other people. Its like five seconds of Kavos when you walk past.

One other thing, I would love to see no parking on the sea front. You have a choice of many restaurants with sea views, but you can never get a sea view without a vehicle being in the way.

I think if this topic was put to the locals they would say "Much better roads leading into Arillas and surrounding areas" Attract more day visitors and a boost for business such as car hire etc plus "daytrippers" have been known to come back for a week or two.
After all , there are not enough of us "Arilliacs" to take full advantage of what Arillas has to offer, even though you guys spread it around and try to visit nearly everyone here.

Personally , I would like to see "Speed Bumps" on the main road to leading into Arillas. Just to stop the "occasional 2/4 wheeled numbskull" from forcing guests to jump in the undergrowth.

Post by: Paul D on January 09, 2016, 05:44:10 PM: This is a really good question, Lewis. We`ve thought about this a few times and not come up with much. However, I will offer an answer to your question.
It seems to us that some places could do with a spruce up, coat of paint, updating etc. I know building improvements go on in the off-season, which is great. Of course, any improvements are constrained by costs, which is understandable. For new people to be attracted, though, it`s the first impression that counts, so some small things could be improved.
Have to say that each year that we have returned, we`ve noticed things which add to the village. Agree with Eggy when he mentions the road conditions leading to the place. Needs a bit of sorting.
Overall, the character and the people is still the same - a warm welcome wherever you go. We were really lucky to discover this little gem 12 years ago.
The issue of the two `pubs` is a tricky one but there are only two. They`re a good night out, with a great crowd of people.
Anyway, can`t think of anything else at the moment.

Just one maybe - a serious bus service around the local area would enhance the Arillas experience enormously. But so far (before I retire in July) we have only had enough time to be in Arillas when we are there for only 3 weeks, and might not have used it much. But I suspect that many more would be glad to hop between Agios Gorgios, San Stefanos and Sidari for an economical fare.

To be able to hop on one to get to Afionas/San George/San Stef would add to the whole experience. I don't mind the walk to and from San Stefanos that much, but I don't get to Afionas and San George nearly as much as I'd like. The less mobile would surely appreciate it too.

It wouldn't have to be anything other than a 12 seater, due to the roads, and I'm convinced it would be a lucrative income for someone. What are you planning on doing when you retire there Phil??

I've stayed at the Bardis Sun in the past and given them a bag of washing which has magically appeared back to my studio, later the same day, nicely clean and fresh smelling . One month there does mean that I have, at some point, to give some things a proper wash. Especially my one and only beach towel that does get grubby and smelly! I do rinse it in the shower, but it's not the same as a machine wash.

What keeps me coming back (and recommending to others) is how small, friendly, charming and Greek Arillas is. Yes maybe a better bus service to other villages for those who don't/don't want to drive would be a perk, but then surely an increase in visitors to Arillas may change what we love about it??
I think the people who live and work there are best placed to make improvements or changes, taking into account the feedback from the tourist questionnaire. The showers and changing rooms on the beach are great, so is the improved access and the information boards.
So, I wouldn't change a thing - other than having a house there! :D

Post by: soniaP on January 11, 2016, 02:14:01 PM: I have had to think hard as Arillas is so great and obviously that is why we all keep going back but I would like to see the bakery more in the centre of Arillas. It is such a long walk in the heat. I know some probably enjoy the walk - those who get up early and walk before it gets too hot but I'm sure it would do more business if it was in the centre. Even if the bakery itself remained where it was but had a liitle shop in centre - perhaps one of the units opposite Brouklis that Val referred to.

I also agree with one of the previous comments that the music can get too loud in the coconut & malibu. I love my music but it would be good to be able to talk to eachother without shouting! That said if you fancy a quiet evening you can always venture to ammos, which i did more often than i ever have last year.

The bakery can be a bit of a treck but there again it makes me walk off the delicious pan du chocolate lol. I agree from a purely aesthetic point of view that no cars on the seafront would be much nicer, perhaps utilising the land next to Portofino as a car park would be an idea? But I also like seeing the Greek / Italian families arriving with their kids and beach paraphernalia whilst sipping a lunchtime drink (or three lol). As for the coconut music I am usually sat in it enjoying Kosta's 18 year old playlist haha (brown eyed girl anyone?;))

They one thing that Bill wishes for is the dark beer from the brewery to be on draught instead of bottled, as it's his favourite drink.

I like that !! - Difficult to make the front a "No-Go Vehicle" zone as few would take any notice and what about delivery vehicles?
Just wonder if a one way system could be put into place. (Then I could get to Rainbow, via Costas on the Beach, Beach Point, Coconut, Armourada................)

Post by: annec on February 05, 2016, 06:08:51 PM: I love the Malibu Bar, I hope it never changes and Giorgos keeps improving it, he works non-stop throughout the winter to make sure that it is even better for his regulars. It takes about 3 minutes to walk past Malibu and Coconut, and the music ....

What would I like to change in Arillas?

1. A Pharmacy would be great
2. Gorgeous George back ... I miss seeing him sitting in the sun, and that smile!

I love the hustle and bustle of the deliveries,(and I wouldn't be able to nip off the beach to buy the most delicious cherries ever and at a bargain price!) the odd cycle or quad zooming past and especially families arriving for a day on the beach with all their paraphernalia! It's what makes Arillas real with real people living their real lives and not one of these purpose built resorts that are just too perfect.I really would miss all the vehicles on the front.

I agree with Anne apart from actually it would not take 3 minutes more like 30 seconds to pass Malibu bar and the coconut. I have not been in Malibu bar but I love the Coconut and the music. I think it offers entertainment for the younger Arillas guests and also those that are still young at heart and love the cheesy classics they play.

You clearly haven't met Gorgeous George yet, his dad has the small super market near the Mathraki.
He works nights in Sidari now so we don't see very much of him during the day (just a little glimpse would do though).

I was chatting to a couple of the locals about the place and they said there's some sort of on going family feud going on regarding the building. such a shame
I would buy it too Sonia if I had the money.
We should start a new topic titled ...What would you turn the building into?

For me....a chocolate shop, like in Bruge Sonia...hehe!
