The management has created a new campaign. Show the world what you can eat in Arillas. You are required to state only ONE of your utmost favourite dishes that you have eaten there. Your top favourite and no other. Multiple entries will be disqualified.
To kick it off - mine was Saganaki prawns at Mirage.

Phil this is so difficult as I enjoy all the food in Arillas!
If I've only got one go at this then I have to settle for Saganaki...but oh why is it such a waist bursting temptation? (I've already eaten it twice since I arrived and will be having it again tonight!)

Well with only one choice it makes it a hard decision.
Lots of places to eat and places like the bakery, where we could all find something to set our taste buds alight.

The food in Arillas is so much it's trump card. Whatever you like to eat you can find it. Most of us have a long list of choices to make, and finding just one is impossible. But we seem to take it for granted.
I can't believe that asking Efi's mum for extra garlic would cause a feeding frenzy like it did. I still don't know if she hates me for making it so public. She will doubtless tell me in July.
Bring it on. Goodbye waistline, Hello food. Probably the best food in the world. Goodbye Carlsberg....

For me it has to be the monkfish cooked so lovingly by Thomas's mum. Jan loves the fish dish at Thomas's as well.
But to be honest wherever you eat in Arillas you cannot go wrong. Every place has such temting food and like Phil I don't care about what happens to the waistline. Now just under 50 days.

Hi! I have watched the forum for 2 years now, but only just joined - couldn't resist this one! It's easy - Tria Adelphia spit roast lamb! 9 weeks today and we will be in Arillas

Now this is very difficult has we all know because the food in our lovely Arrilas is superb everywhere you go.
But the lamb @ Tria on Sunday is to die for, no hang on a minute the fish at Vivilas, no the garlic prawns @ efi's, the pork chops at The Night Owl, oh eck hang on the spit rolled Pork @ broukilis.
There we go Ive made my mind up of I?
never mind I will try the lot again in August and Im sure i still wont be able to decide.

You are SOOOO unfair!!! I'm sat here, mouth watering!! My husband and friends just got back from Arillas yesterday and their food tales brought up some magical memories. It would have been fairer if you'd asked us all to name our fav dish for EACH taverna!!! Here goes though- the pork chops at Mon Amour or......stafado at the Marvel?????? Hmmmmm PORK CHOPS JUST WIN IT!!! Yiamass! Will be eating them in June. (not that I'm counting!)

Well for me it has to be Efies garlic prawns although there are a lot of runners up. Eve agree with you abou Didas Tiramisu have that every night ha ha, always get Vas to tell her when we are arriving so she doesn't run out.
Micks would have to be Didas cheesecake, has to have it every night and alway flirts so he gets a bigger portion, Kerry couldn't believe her Dad could flirt till she seen him with Dida ha ha

jill agreed dida,s deserts are lovely ..but my fave meal is in thallassa ,which is plaice fillets in a ouzo sauce,and celeriac mash ,hmmmm heavenly,,but must admit all the food in arillas is heavenly ........yammas..roll on june

As I don't eat meat, my options are more restricted, but I love the fresh fish at Vavillas, the vegetarian moussaka at Portofino, and then at Brouklis, it's a hard choice between the courgette keftedes, the feta fourno, the vegetable briami and the bourdetta fish stew.
But to save myself from being disqualified, I shall just have to plump for the stuffed peppers at Thalassa, which I always order as a main course with their superb roast potatoes.
Only sad that we can't afford to come and sample them all again this year.

Has to be Lamb Kleftico in Kostas, not just for the meal but because we always sit at the same table in the outside area whatever the weather! I'm sure they think we are mad but made of strong stuff here on the east coast. Seems forever till October but once we start seeing everyones holiday postings on here it soon comes round.

Erm, hum, haa.... Whatever I eat, where ever I eat it as long as its in Arillas. I personally can't decide unless I have eaten everything on every menu in every place. Now that's a challenge I do accept. Yammas!

I've had to write down a list to take with me - I'm going to try everyone of these meals and can't wait!
I'm going on my own so don't think I'll be eating out on a night, do you know if these restaurants are open at lunch time?

I'm sure everyone on here will agree with me. Whether you are on your own or not you just have to go out to eat in the evening. All the taverna owners will make you welcome and look after you. Most are open at lunchtime but we generally have a snack then not a full meal.

Don't worry about going out in the evening Cypress - you'll feel so at ease and relaxed after a few days, you'll be partying with your new friends before you can say 'Metaxa' !

I totally agree with Alan and Jan. I hate eating alone when away with work, but if it was Arillas I would have no trouble. A warmer friendlier place you will never find.

Cypress, you are never alone in Arillas
A lunchtime snack is fine and the food is good no matter what time of day it is, but eating out on an evening is part and parcel of Arillas.
You won’t be eating alone for long.

Effie's garlic prawns is at the top of my list - but, as has been previously said, there are so many places with such wonderful dishes just waiting for us ...

Cypress, you will be fine. I often go to Arillas on my own and what I used to do is take a book with me to a taverna - that way you don't look like a lost cause! However, I rarely had to read it as I usually end up chatting to someone, or joining someone at their table. Everybody will make you welcome.

Everyone is right Cypress. We have met and chatted to many single women (and men) in the vast number of evenings we have eaten in Arillas. Nobody will stare or make you feel like a lost soul. Just give it a try.

You are such a friendly lot, thank you.
This is a special treat for me, whenever I get chance I try to get away on my own but this time I'm going for 3 whole weeks on the 25th June.
As for eating out, those long leisurely lunches are something I'm dreaming about, on an evening I'd planned to eat at the apartments I'm staying at. So, if you see me I'm the one with a big gormless smile on my face!

This happened a few years ago: we went to Brouklis late on our first evening, and were very happy to see both Dimitris and Arillas again. Tired after a day of travelling, we asked Dimitris to choose the food, knowing that whatever he served would be delicious.
What he actually brought us was a little bit of everything - and I mean absolutely everything! And not that little, at that! Must have been one of the best meals we have had in our entire lives. Even Dimitris looked a little surprised when he saw that we had emptied every single plate.
A tiny cup of Greek coffee together with a somewhat larger glass of Metaxa were the perfect digestivo. An unforgettable meal.
On the other hand, we have never been served food in Arillas that would have been less than perfect. We always stay at the Horizon, and are particularly fond of their fish dishes. Not to mention Efi's garlic prawns and... etc. etc.

We`re just looking forward to eating at many places, trying out Greek dishes that we haven`t tried before.
Arillas spoils us with it`s choice of tavernas to eat in.

Hi all, my mouth has been constantly watering reading this thread for the past week or so:)
So a questions - where is Effie's please? Is it the Eftihia Snack Bar please? (I was looking on the maps and this is what I guessed from that.)

Yes Angela, Effie's is Eftihia nearly next door to Kaloudis, up a stairway to heaven. But it is no "snack bar." Fabulous food, views to die for, and an Arillas mustn't miss. But in two weeks you miss so many wonderful places to eat... Forget about calories. Just order the next size up in waistband for next year....

Yes Angela, Phil's right, but I also feel the name is wrong because Efi's is a really excellent restaurant, we go quite often for our evening meal, enjoying Efi's mums wonderful cooking, the prawns(Bill) and the lamb(me) are our two favourites there.
Although lunch time is very good as well, just sitting, watching the people on the beach while enjoying your lunch.
I suppose snack bar means fast food to me, not a wonderful place like Efi's.
You can miss it though because it's up that flight of steps and you could think it is closed because you can't see any one there, so when you are there climb those steps, try it, you won't be disappointed.

Thanks Kevin, Phil and Val - I shall certainly be going up those stairs! As for calories - I only worry about those two weeks in advance of my hols (bikini in mind) - the rest of the year I plan to diet, start one on Monday and give up by Tuesday - well, you only live once, lol!

Gosh, this is a tough one. The contenders are spit roast lamb at Brouklis, not forgetting the courgette keftedes; and prawn saganaki and the steaks at the marina. I don't honestly think I can choose between them. Then of course there is the brouklis moussaka, effie's (everything), horizon and thalassa which I love when eating by candlelight and listening to the waves. I could go on and on and on ................! xxx

Angela66, when Phil first put Kokoretsi on the menu I asked him what it was- his answer "you won't like it john" was a challenge for me. All he told me was that it was offal. It was the best kebab of any kind that I've ever had. Only later did I find out the full detail of what I'd eaten. It's well worth a try if you can face it, but then all the food at the Tria is lovely.

Effie's Mum makes a mean nut cake. Last year when we had a meal there with Neill and Wendy they asked if it was on the menu, it wasn't but her mum went straight through to the kitchen and made one. It was to die for, lovely and warm and the whole cake ha ha.

Sometimes it is better not to know exactly what is in something before you try it! My daughter likes kebabs, as do I, so I think I shall tell her that kokoretsi is chicken based and see what happens .... Lol
