Hi Bill I dont think you could go wrong with the restaurants in Arillas they all serve good food but my personal favourites are Brouklis and Portofino, enjoy!

... or for the "restaurant" experience as opposed to the "taverna" experience - and please don't misunderstand, I love them both - Thalassa or Horizon.  I always feel as though I'm "going out for a meal" at either of these two places - and they are next door to each other on the sea front.  Fantastic, romantic, sunsets from both as well!

However, as Diane and Eric say(s) (!) you can't go wrong with any of them!!  Each restaurant/taverna has its own special quality.  We like to have our very first evening meal at Brouklis - a very authentic typical Greek/Corfiot taverna - if you arrive in time for your evening meal on the 18th, why not try that first?

billb, keep it close to your chest and surprise her. We all have our favourite foods - mine is prawns. Several people have adored Eftihia's prawns with extra garlic so far this season. Just superb. Graziella provide similar. Just as good. You're there when we are - say hello and we'll say it in person.

It is difficult to recommend a place to eat in Arillas, because good food is taken as read. Occasional disappointments, very few, but never had one myself having been 12? or moe separate times. And other forumers many more.

If it's your first time, simply relate, smile and talk to anyone you meet. No ceremonies, no doubts. Just feel part of a community which is made up of people looking for what you are. That's us.....

Hi billb, it is my 50th on the 20th July and I am already full of angst trying to decide where to eat, so much choice, so many fine people......

Hi billb,  Brouklis is our favourite for our first meal as well, but must
agree with Janis, choose one of the many on the sea front, for a birthday meal you won't be disappointed.
On a Saturday night visit Marina for the Greek dancing, not to be missed.

Hi, thanks for all your replies.  It all sounds fantastic and can't wait to get there.  We're staying at Christos Apartments.  Are we very far away from these restaurants?  Sorry but we haven't been able to find a map to show exactly how far away we are from the seafront.  Thank you

Hi Billb - there are a couple of maps on this website - click on "Map" on the left hand side and again on "interactive map" or "tourist map". I find the interactive to be better.
Christos apartments has a blue marker and is roughly (on the map) towards the left and about three quarters of the way up.
Christos apartments is about a ten minute walk down hill to the centre of Arillas, you have a lovely supermarket opposite (we always stop on our walks and buy an ice cream there!)
It is also about equal distance between Arillas and San Stefanos, so you have the best of both worlds!
A short distance away is the Gravia Bar which has fantastic views, and another couple of minutes' walk is our Nikos' new place - the Akrotiri Bar, aptly named because it is on the headland and offers absolutely superb panoramic views over both Arillas and San Stefanos.
Enjoy!

love them all, but think i agree with janis abouth the "dining" ........how about starting off with a cocktail in ammos, then wander along to horizon for a meal, finished off by another cocktail up on the sun deck.
now thats what i would like if it were my birthday!!!

The only bit we changed on our anniversary was the meal was at Thalassa. Important to us because that was where we were first welcomed to Arillas. Nothing wrong with Horizon, or Efi's or Brouklis, or Graziella, or.... any of them.

That would be perfect choice Ger, I agree. The Horizon definitely has the classy edge I reckon.

billb, there are enough to choose from, just go with where ever takes your fancy, but those on the seafront would be a tad more romantic for your wife's 50th - just my opinion, but having a meal and watching the sun set with the sound of the sea a mear 100yds infront of you - its a no brainer
Hope you find somewhere and have a lovely evening on the 19th

Agree with everybody on this thread you really cannot go wrong with eating in Arillas, everywhere is good! It all depends what you feel your wife would like...I spent my 50th birthday out there the first week in June, and to be honest hated the idea of a party at home and any fuss chose to spend a couple of weeks in our fave place and opted for Vavillas on back road fave taverna, low key unbeatable food and at end of night you have to venture into owners house and chase him to write out the bill, whereupon he will present you with complimentary Metaxas whilst he finds a biro!xx

LOL   wot no trying to squeeze through the toilet window in the loo?!!

Flaming heck I dunno wot the world coming to? First you have to beg them to take your money and then they ply you with alcohol!

You could be in serious danger of having a good night out and nothing  to moan about.

Cheers Nan

Had exactly the same with Thomas Georgia. A truly wonderful family. Always leave them a big tip as we feel we are robbing them for the lovely food and the price you have to pay.

But it's all true Nan. Vavilas may be hidden away in the background, but once found is a must do. The only thing you can do is leave a hefty tip, or you feel like you've robbed him. He once came running out with a 10 euro note, "Phil, you've left your money on the table!" Derrrr....

The fish is fresh, it is beautifully cooked, and yet another reason why I shouldn't go to Arillas. Oh what the heck, I'll just order a bigger waist size on fleaBay when I get back.

I plan to be at Armourada on Tuesday lunchtime and have a few items for you that may help you start your break as soon as.........

Or.... Tell me where you want me to be on Tuesday and at what time, and your wish will be my command!

Captain's is lovely. Good value food and served by the most charming young man who has impeccable English. He likes to practise because he is still at school. However he will appreciate a few phrases in Greek and Efharisto poli never goes amiss.

Having posted in the correct place (unlike some!) I must however enquire if Eggy will be granting three wishes or just the ONE and if he is indeed the "genie in a bottle" or is it message in a bottle !! Too confused now snotty ... I mean sorry X

Cheers Nan xx

Nan

I have very little chance of being a genius let alone a genie.
Anyway, Ouzo in a bottle is a lot better than a genie.
And.... who is this person that posts in the wrong places?

And..... RESTAURANTS?
Well, as I live here it is difficult to recommend anything from such a good selection of Tavernas, Bars, etc etc.
But , there is always something that suprises you when it's least expected.

Like the beetroot I pinched from M&M's plate when they had a meal at Nickos's Pool bar. - To die for twas.

Found out today that Rainbow make their own cottage pie and have Beef n Onion pies on the menu. -
(Might make a change, if UK food withdrawal symptoms occur)

Armourada have a rabbit stew on tonights menu.

Catch Brouklis , one lunchtime , when fresh pumpkin pie is available.
(And lentil soup!)

We all know how "Fishy Vavillas" spoils us but what about Helens Taverna across the road. Weggs had salmon fillet there last year. Excellant.
( Look at his specials )

Tria Adelphia for the Saturday Lamb. - Great!

All my opinion only and all the places I have left out will bring good eating memories back for many. We are all spoilt for choice and fortunately we all have different tastes which is why all "eating places" in Arillas do their very best for all of us.

Cheers
