Title: Why I keep going back to Arillas
Post by: justphil on November 14, 2010, 07:07:44 PM
With dedication to our lovely Eleni of Irenes Villa Lux Apartments (next door to Rainbow and Marvel) I want to start this thread again.

Why do you keep going back? What might first timers expect, and how can they make the most of what us forum hacks already do?

Well here are links to what I've said before.

I think it's obvious why we keep going back. Why do you?

Quote
I think it's obvious why we keep going back. Why do you?

In no particular order.....

* The stunning scenery.
* The beautiful sunsets.
* The warm & friendly locals.
* The sandy beach.
* The many walks
* The good selection of tavernas which offer the most delicious food.
* The feeling of total relaxation.
* Watching the world go by with a nice chilled local beer.
* The sunshine [24 degrees even in November!]
* The peace & quiet & hearing the cicades in the evenings.
* Watching the fireflies in May.
* The wonderful colours in the spring.
* The feeling that this is the place where I belong & hope to hope to retire to one day.

These are just a few reasons. I could go on & on & on...................

Sara..x

I totally agree Sara, just booked my flight for Friday 13th. May 2011 for another glorious two weeks! A lot cheaper than last year £208 plus meals etc. (could it be the date?).
The 'pot of gold' waiting at the end of the dreary dark British winter.

This always cheers me up. It's the video I put together in 2008.

Still reminds me of everything I love about Arillas and surrounding walks/views.

Ah Terry, it's lovely to know why my old mate Charlie from Thalassa loves Arillas! It is his home, after all. I am hoping that posts on this thread might persuade a few to at least investigate, or preferably visit for real next summer.

Thanks for your efforts.
Phil

Jill luvver, you can always get a lovely meal in Armourada, combined with a great welcome. And compared to the freezing mornings here last few days, it's a no brainer! And the sea is warm warm warm.... Beam me up Scottie!!!

We keep on going back because its the only place we know that we can just relax.We have been all over and always felt that we had to do tours of islands.Here we can be ourselfs and drink and eat without having another tour planned for the next day where we have to be up at the crack of dawn.Ilove arillis because my heart lifts when i see kaloudis and all the people in arillas.

Why oh why did I start reading this thread and watching Tony's and Martin's video slideshows?  I WANT TO BE THERE NOW!!!!

In the past whenever we went anywhere on holiday it would always take the first week before I even started to unwind.... with Arillas, I unwind as soon as I get there. (Hate travelling, so sorry I can't include that part in it) but - Arillas - its people, its wonderful welcome wherever you go, its food, its scenery, its visitors who become friends - can't praise it highly enough!

Love to all

I met Eleni who runs Irene's Villa Lux Apatments just up from Brouklis, for the first time this October whilst ferrying a bottle of vodka from Alex Supermarket to Jen at Brouklis. (I was going to share it with her before you ask... Whether I did is another story!) Eleni was talking to Dimitris just outside Brouklis.

Dimitris knew that I knew Eleni already from the forum posts. She was quite surprised at that, but since then we have shared personal messages, continuing our worries about the future of the place we all seem to assume will be the same forever. Her views are really worth reading. She is wobbling about posting them in case she is a "fly in the milk." No pressure luvver, but we all want to hear what you want to say to us. Fly in the milk? You are the milk. Definitely not a fly. Speak to us luvver if you're reading this.

Phil

This is a marvelous thread to get us all through the winter months ahead.  Or maybe it will torture us cos we can`t be there quicker than next season.
Enjoyed the slideshow and videos.
As to why we keep returning, I think everything has been said.
Roll on June 20 2011!!!

This is where we all belong and hopefully the photos will show why we love it so much

(If you have a slow internet connection, like me, its best set one 240p instead of 480p - see settings at bottom of video)

The song is from the new Ray Davies CD called "See My Friends"

We can't answer this question really as we have only been the once to Arillas. So why are we returning next May.

Because we fell in love with the whole package that is Arillas.

   Why do we keep going back? I have no idea, but come September, that's
where you'll find us, every year.
   We had never been to Greece, let alone Corfu, when my husband and I
arrived in Arillas in September 2006. We spent the first day in amazed
disbelief. Could the village really be so small? Was it true that those
mountaintops were Albanian? Was it actually Italy that was the next stop
over the sea? We felt as isolated as the shipwrecked Odysseus must have
done. The second day we were hooked. What happened? Well, go and have a
look! Find your own answers!

I keep going back to Arillas because it is a giant high-powered magnet, which latches onto my pair of pins with welcome regularity.

Even the dogs welcome you. Here is a picture of me one morning in Olga's (travel) Elena Stella apartments in September 2008.

(http://img710.imageshack.us/img710/6977/laras.jpg)

This little dog called Lara took to me as I arrived and was outside my door every morning waiting for a cuddle. Yes her partner Cookie bit me a couple of years later, but he was jealous.....

Why do I keep going back to Arillas? Because it is safe, the people are welcoming and even the few, well cared for dogs make you feel good.
