Hi Tim

We are staying in the Kaloudis in September, have stayed there before some 3 years ago and found them to be great.  I had an email from someone who has just returned from there and apparently they have been refurbished, there are kettles in the room and not the old greek saucepan!! the bathrooms/showers have been done out and are very clean. The maid service was excellent.

I must say though when we went 3 years ago apart from being refurbished we found them very clean.  There is a supermarket on site which sells everything you need - you can hire fans from there.  The pool can get a bit noisy sometimes but as you have children I'm sure that wont bother you, the beach is just at the end of the drive and its a nice little walk of an evening into the heart of the village (when I say walk though - its 2/3 minutes from everything else - but nice to stroll along the sea front to get to your watering hole and restaraunt.  I do know that at Kaloudis they tend to have things going on in the evening - barbeques, quizes etc and from what I remember they were a friendly bunch.

Hope this helps  have a great time - just looking forward to our 2 weeks in September.

Best wishes

Tracey

Hi Tim
Tracey & Peter have said it all really but you could also take a look at the other "Kaloudis" posting under apartments.
Also look at holidays-exposed.com but they are old reviews.
We stayed there about 8 years ago and, they were too noisy for us.
I think they have changed a lot since then.

Thanks, is it nice and near to the beach and village, it's a bit difficult to judge on the site map.

The beach is just at the end of the driveway and across the road to the apartments, as for the village it literally is a 2/3 minute walk to the centre.

Hello,

Anyone interested in the Kaloudis apartments can rest assured that they are excellent, we have just arrived back from 2 weeks in Arillas, I can't think of a bad word about the place, everything was excellent, the beach, restaurants, people and apart from the 2 storms the weather was brilliant as well, I wouldn't hesitate to return, I wish I was still there, hopefully this might happen next year, thanks to everyone in Arillas that made our holiday so special,

You will have to, unfortunately, miss the Coconut and Malibu Bars in the evening as they can get quite busy and noisy. Also it may pay to steer away from any Taverna advertised "Greek Night. I'm sure you'll find a quiet part of the beach to chill out and you can "shop Around" for a quiet pool if you want one. - Plenty to choose from.

Hi

I would agree with your comments about Billy.  We stayed there twice a good few years back, simply because it was allocation on arrival.  Although at the time, the apts were prob the best on the resort, unfortunately our holiday experiences at the Kaloudis meant that we wouldnt even go back to visit as we were made to feel that uncomfortable.  We found him to be extremely grumpy and he seemed to be constantly moaning at the kids (the twins were 1 and Lewis 4 at the time) about getting pool water on the grass (I kid you not!).

After going to the beach we would always ensure that we properly showered at the pool area but he actually came up and complained that we had the shower on too high!  Im sure we would have incurred an even bigger wrath had we dared to get sand in his hallowed pool!! Also, things like, if we ordered a cold beer we noticed that he had chilled glasses in the freezer but whenever we asked for one it was treated like a huge hassle, whereas other guests were freely given them.

As regular readers of this website will know, our familly return to Arillas year after year as we absolutely love it and we never let our experiences at the Kaloudis put us off this magical resort.  Indeed I feel guilty for having a bad word to say about anything! Lets face it, it could just have been the fact that he didnt like us for whatever reason, which I could understand if our kids were badly behaved brats and we were foul-mouthed 'brits abroad' types but we would never have (knowingly!!)let them cause disruption to other peoples holiday relaxation.  Watch this, il prob get a deluge of examples now, haha!

Anyway, my log-winded point is...we did, however find the owners of the supemarket and other apts on the complex to be lovely and couldnt do enough to help.  perhaps it is because we were in these apts that he treated us so differently? Who knows...Billys son was really nice as well, what ever happened to him? does he still work in the summer? Its funny but you never seem to see the kaloudis family around the resort whereas other bar/taverna owners will often be found out and about.

Hi Jo, we have seen you & the boys in Arillas 2 years running, '02 & '03, so the boys were quite young then, I for one would never of complained about there behaviour. I used to look forward to see them dancing round the coconut, waving the sticks that go in cocktails. They were always polite & always said hello when they saw us. I have never stayed at the Kaloudis but I now what you mean when you say you feel guilty  for having a bad word to say. We had a couple of bad experiences this year, like you I am not going to let these put me off Arillas but at the same time I haven't  (yet) written them up. I suppose I was waiting to see if anyone else had any of the problems we had, also I was worried that if I did write them up I may get a frosty reception next year, even though we don't intend staying at the studios in question again.

Annie, I am horrified at your story about the air con, I too would of been taken in, I hope everone reads that before they go , forewarned is forearmed!
bye for now

Hi Jo I've just returned from Arillas (Friday) and stayed at Kaloudis for the 10th year running, with some friends who have been there every year since it opened 22 years ago!!  Yes Billy can be grumpy and a bit proud of his pool - and the grass! - but in his defence it is only his high standards that keep the place looking great every year - even though I know he can be very irritating sometimes.  We're always given a great welcome by Billy, Hellen and Christiana as well as Roula and Christos.  In answer to your question Billy's youngest son George now lives and works in America - Florida - where he is about to open a new restaurant chain.  He comes back for a holiday most years with his wife Katie and sons Vasily and Theo.  Christiana is about to start her final year at University in England and returns every summer.  Christiana and Hellen can  often be seen on the beach during the late afternoon, and the whole family does find it difficult to go around the village as they are working from 6 am to, often, 2, 3 or even 4 am at times.  We stayed in Roulas apartments last two years and this year as well but were still given a great welcome by Billy and the family.  Anyway, wherever you stay in Arillas is great, I'm sure you'll agree.  Paradise on earth - can't wait for next year.

Hi

We've just returned from Arillas. This was our first visit, but certainly first of many more to come - absolutely loved the place!

We stayed at Kaloudis, 2 adults, 1 teen & 1 toddler, in a 2 bedroom apartment; pleasantly surprised by the good quality of the accommodation (well above Greek standards). Place was spacious, adequately equipped, and the shower was rather decent. Furthermore, well impressed by the safety nets on the bottom of the balconies & extra safety railings on top; also, despite varied entertainment programme, and one of the rooms overlooking the pool, we did not find it too noisy; well-stocked shop/supermarket on site, with very nice & helpful owners, Roula & Christo

However, and I'm so, so, so sorry to have to rain on most people's parade (especially as we have just joined the forum!!!!!), but we are not going back to Kaloudis, mainly because of Billy, as we found him very grumpy & greedy, and this is why:

First - were not happy about the air-con - the notice in one room said it was 5 euros per day, whilst the notice in the other said it was 8 euros! When we asked Billy he said it was 8, they forgot to change all the notices!!!!! He also mentioned that the charge is per unit

Second - we love exploring places we go to, and that includes tavernas; so, we did not eat at the poolside bar or use the pool that often - as a result, we felt that Billy did not like us, and we felt somewhat uncomfortable (we are regularly holidaying throughout Greece, so this was not our very first experience of a "typical" Greek hotelier, however, this certainly was the first time we came across the grumpy one)

Third - late check-out room - as we have a young child, we payed £22 to Thomsons for a late c/o room, till 6pm; half-way through our holiday, we approached Billy & asked whether it was possible to keep the late check-out for a bit longer - " of course, but you must pay me extra 25 euros" - fine, we had no problems with that; however, although he told us to pay on the last day, he kept asking for the money the next day, so, fine, no problems, we paid, but then he kept asking for the money again the next day, which we found somewhat intimidating; then, on the last day, he said we had to vacate the apartment we were staying in by 10am, and then put us in a 2-bed, match-box size room with no hot water - not good at all, not impressed at all!!!!!

However, his daughter was very pleasant & helpful

Also, we found Roula & Christo very, very nice & pleasant; Roula was aware of the problems with Billy  - apparently she had lots of guests complain about him, and she was concern about the loss of business (as they are partners); she does have her own rooms / apartments for rent, so we are more than likely going to stay with them next summer

My younger child absolutely loved Roula, and was running to the shop many times a day, just for a kiss & a hug!

All in all, this was perhaps the nicest Greek holiday we had - loved the people (except one!), loved the beach, loved the tranquility, actually managed to relax (which was a premium!) and most of us were in tears when we had to go - but, we will be coming back for sure

Diana

Air conditioning is available at the kaloudis apts, it was 5 euros per day. Please note that is 5 euros for each air conditioning unit,so if your apartment has more than one you will be charged accordingly.
The apartments are very clean and the grounds are immaculate as is the pool.

Hi weeman

We are going to the Kaloudis, first two weeks in July.  We have a two bedroomed appartment and they are quite spacious.  The studios are small.  But it does not matter what the appartments are like as Billy's bar and pool and of course Arillas itself more than make up for it.  What dates are you going to be there as we may meet up.

Hi Weeman

The transfer time is approximately 1 - 2 hours depending on which route they take.  If you avoid Sidari (north) then the coach trip will be about an hour and half.  By taxi I would say it would be about three quarts of an hour.

We also arrive on 13th June, staying at the Kaloudis.  First trip to Arillas but not to Corfu.  On our tickets, it states "Kaloudis Studio 2".  I am assuming that there must be several blocks of appartments and have read that Kaloudis 2 has views of the back of the bar!  Does anyone know if this is right?

Still looking forward to coming, but would have loved a sea or pool view!

Thanks for prompt reply and reassurance,  will have my 11 year old daughter with me, so would rather have a bit of quiet at night.

Hi Justlisa

Daisy and I were in Room 6, in the block right at the top.  I think that Billy and Eleni live above our block.

We had a brilliant time, I'm looking into booking again for next June, but even though we had a one of the best holidays ever, I'm not sure whether to go back again next year or try another part of Corfu.  Sometimes its not the same when you go a second time.  The other part of me thinks that if I book somewhere else I might regret it and wish I'd gone back to Arillas and the Kaloudis!

Are you a regular Kaloudis visitor?

We were also there at the same time as LisaandSteve. I think i might remember you, did your daughter play with another girl who was there.? We always went on the sun loungers in the corner (my wife under the olive tree).

We have booked for next June already. It will be our 8th visit to Kaloudis by then. :)

Hi Riggers

Yes, my daughter was playing with another girl, they were very sad to leave each other, thank goodness for MSN!

I think I do remember you and your wife - fantastic sun tans!!!

Have just been on the Thomson site, and I've decided to book again for next June, flying out on 19th.  I've noticed that the prices in the last couple of days for a few holidays to corfu on that date have been reduced by about £25 per person, today some of them have gone up again, so I think I'll book before they put the price up on the Kaloudis again.

Do you book through Thomson or direct? I was given the prices to book direct with Kaloudis, but time you book the flights it works out dearer for me

Hi Daisysmum again.

Yes MSN is nice so they can keep in touch.

I think it might have been LisaandSteve with the tans, but i did get a decent one. We have booked for the 8th-22nd june although i don't know if this will be changed by thomson because the 8th is on a monday. The normal for thomson is tuesdays and fridays.
I booked it online with thomson, but the shops say they will match any online price.

Wow!

riggers, lisa, BG, Daisysmum and all - your posts yesterday prove how that place works its magic. New friendships made, return visits, getting used to the idea there is nowhere else to spend your holiday time.... Just loved reading it.

I left work for the last time yesterday, and loads of my workmates ganged up and came to our local pub to celebrate getting rid of me. Landlord put on a spread of food. It was special. Just like we're used to out in Corfu. Kaloudis is a part of that.

Guess what we talked about all evening..........

Arillas.

Thank you all
Phil

Lisa....   I expect you were as brown as you were last year, you were incredibly tanned then.   I hope it doesnt rain when we go in September, I would like to at least look like I have been on holiday!

How are Poppy, Spiros and the boys?  We are only next door when we go so no doubt we shall be seeing them often.  I am so looking forward to going away.  We just hope we get there though.. Mikes dad was taken into hospital last night, chest pains again.  Still, as he is 86 you sort of expect the unexpected (if you know what I mean), life changes so quickly so we just hope we can get to Arillas without any mishaps.  C'est la vie!

What we really needed was some steps that end as we were staying in room 18.Then we wouldnt have to walk all the way round, such a long walk.

Just had 2 lovely weeks at Kaloudis for the 6th time. Love it there but when I've looked for next year it's doubled in price. Does anyone know if this is general for Thomson Holidays or have all companies increased similarly. Can't bear not to go back but can't pay double.

I think he was lucky because before we went in June ours was showing as about £620 but now it's coming up at £1200+ I thought I must have put in the wrnog info but I went back and did it again, made sure I'd only put 2 people and it's still £1200+.
That was 5th June from Cardiff and the 12th June isn't even showing as available from Cardiff only Bristol.

That sounds a ridiculous difference.....but then the easyjet flight I got for £100 in August is now coming up at over £300......madness

Hi June

I have booked for next year already though only for 1 week.  I found that it was cheaper by £23 per person to fly out on 19th June instead of 12th June for some reason.

Hi becky

Thanks for that but Cardiff and Bristol only do Friday flights. I'm hoping that if the fuel crisis calms down that the prices will also go down.

What £1200. Hmm i think there must be an error somewhere. There are 3 sisters and there partners go every June from Cardiff (have been for the last 8 i think). I wonder if they have seen this price?. Keep your eye on thomson website, i am sure it must go down. Or phone them.

The Kaloudis has gone up for us as well. In 2009 it will cost £600+ for the same holiday dates as this year so we will dwell a pause and see what thomson are playing at. Hope they come down in price

I have just been on the Thomson website and first of all requested price for 2 people to Kaloudis from Cardiff on 5th June 2009, the price came up as £619 pp, then changed the outgoing date to 19th June but still for 14 nights and the price was £404 pp.  Thats a big difference!  Change your holiday dates June and you will save a packet!  Better book quick before they put the price up!!

Oh dear!  Going to look a bit of a numpty now, have just had another look and even thought I requested Cardff, and all of the other accomodations show a Cardiff flight,  the website has shown London Gatwick for the Kaloudis for some reason which would explain the price difference.  Many apologies June.

Hi Tim,

have been going to Kaloudis every year for the last 14 years - it's great, not too noisy and loads of cheerful company.  Staff are brilliant - bothing is too much trouble and the apartments are spotless.  50m from the beach and 2 minutes from all the tavernas and bars - fantastic.  We're going on the 30th July for two weeks again - I'm sure you'll have a fab time.
