Title: Pizzeria
Post by: Lawty on July 10, 2010, 11:35:17 PM
Samwell has posted some pictures of a Pizzaria saying 'opening soon' does anyone know if they are going to reopen the Pizzeria?

It's looking like it may be open, or ready to open now. I'm very happy that it's opening up again.
Whispers, next to it had seats outside too, and bottles of beer lined up on the bar, the other day when I passed.

Wow Maggie that's great news!

Just occasionally on holiday I like a good old pizza...a bit of stodge!  I hope it's as good as last time :-)

It'll be nice to see a bit of life again on 'Whispers corner'.

I love pizza too, and it is brilliant news that Whispers may be opening - they have both been closed ever since we started going back in 07.

Just one problem really.... Already can't get round all the tavernas we would like to and re-visit the best in a fortnight!!

Oooh, yes - pepperoni pizza WITH Mythos sounds great!
(I wonder if the owners will be Greek with an Italian accent or Italian with a Greek accent, lol)

We had two great holidays in Arillas and had some fabulous Greek food there. Maybe it is because I love Greek food and can't eat it locally whereas I can get a pizza any time I want at home, but I don't see the point of going to a Greek island and eating Italian food. So the news about a pizzaria opening in Arillas doesn't fill me with joy.

Holly, I might be the only one here, but I totally agree with you:
Why on earth go to Greece and ask for Italian food??!!
I enjoy everything local wherever I go and Greek food is the best
that I've ever tasted, tzatziki, salads, stifado, seafood etc. etc.

Connie x

PS.
Having had a teenager once, I've had all the pizzas I could ever cope with.

Sunflower and Holly, you are not alone. We just ate chicken cooked with flavours only the Greeks understand. The pizza does nothing for me. I may be hung up to dry for saying so, but when locally grown tomatoes, locally caught fish are on offer who would want a pizza? Tomorrow Jen and me will be spoilt for choice as to what local food we will eat. But everyone deserves to choose. We are not being food snobs, but we adore Greek food.

kev mate, I think Roula could cook a shoe and make it taste right. The Bourdetto was amazing. Like a woman, hot at first taste, then cool and satisfying. Then wham! How else can I say B****Y GORGEOUS!!

Anyway, I think it is nice to have choice and each to their own :)

I agree with Phil, a Pizza is not my favourite meal, but that's what people want then why not. After all how many of us have had a "Greek" Sunday roast? I know I have and enjoyed it. In the end it all helps the local economy and that's no bad thing.

I never eat pizza here, let alone in Arillas.....but I have to say it was a very useful and popular place when it was there. At the time my kids were teenagers and less adventurous with their food, and they often went in there while I went into Brouklis for proper food.

i think having the pizzeria back is  great more choice for everyone
i do prefer greek food to, but dont  tell me everyone from england eats fish and chips (in news paper) and roast beef dinner all the time

Good point Dave. Anything that helps the Arillas economy has to be a good thing, and its a great option if you cant be bothered going out and want to just chill on your balcony with a few beers. I remember them being fabulous. I love my greek food but I also love my full english breakfasts at captains! Wahey, brits abroad!!

We agree about the Pizzeria, as we too come to Greece for the food but of course anyone who wants pizza can now have it....... but one thing Bill is looking forward to is trying the beers brewed in Arillas, from the micro brewery. I remember reading your post saying that your Jen enjoyed real ale so perhaps you could tell us who is serving draught or bottled real ale at the moment in Arillas as real ale is his favourite tipple. In saying that, the ONLY lager he likes is Mythos, he wouldn't touch the lager at home!!!      Looking forward to real Greek food and maybe some real Greek ale on the 26th     Val and Bill

well, it's lovely having fresh fruit & veg, and the greek dishes are good in any restaurant in Arillas, but we like something different occasionally. (and we don't get to eat out every night).

I feel it is worth mentioning that its not like the fast food takeaways that line every British town centre, its really tasteful and in keeping with the village with a traditional clay oven for cooking the pizza's. not a neon light in sight! ( well thats how it used to be)

Is it actually open then? I think it will do Arillas the world of good to have those two establishments up and running again as with Irini's art shop having closed that end of the village would have looked very sorry for itself. I wonder if there are any plans to open the (shock horror) disco within Whispers?!

We love the local Greek food and I love cooking at home. BUT if I was washed ashore on a desert island and there was a crate next to me I would pray it was either an inflatable boat with outboard or full of pepperoni pizza's. The pizza place was coming along a treat as we left and it gives cash strapped holiday makers a good takeaway option for all the family. Sometimes eating out every night can be a bit much. We had one pizza night during the 2 weeks and that was Ammos. Lovely.

We had pizza one night courtesy of Poppy because Colin put his back out just before our planned evening out, and he couldn't move from the bed to begin with.  The lovely Bobby even brought it up to our room when it was ready.  Bring the plates back tomorrow, pay at some stage...  What a lovely family, what more could you ask for?

I hope so Jo.  In its hayday, it was a great place for the 'older' kids, and very pleasant for others to sit and wait for a table at the Brouklis when you'd forgotten to book in advance!! lol.

The final preparations seem in place. It wasn't open last night but might be tonight. It looks great, and if I'd had enough legs to take a picture, I would have posted it. Maybe next week....

Watched Thalassa pizza being served to a Greek family today. It had me drooling, so smothered in great food. When I posted earlier I had a vision very different from that.

And Dimitris has told me I'm now required for compulsory training from 2011 to 3012. All of it in Arillas.

Dream on Phil....

It was open before we came back. A good looking front, and it was packed. Probably the novelty, but judging by the pizza we ate, it will do really well generally. We had their "special" and it was gorgeous.

That looks great!  As I mentioned before I am not a lover of pizza but I can eat a bowl of pasta anytime especially if its authentic Italian.    Great place for a change for the kids too - most kids like pizza or pasta.  Nice to see that the space is being used.

We had pizza on Saturday. It was excellent! They also do pasta dishes, and you can mix 1/2 pizza with 1/2 pasta too.

We had ours to carry out.

You should be able to set them as your background, I purposely set my Flickr account to allow Full resolution images for this reason.

Find the photo you;d like on my Flickr from here (www.flickr.com/photos/yarde_1)
Click the photo to be taken to its individual page
On the upper left there should be an "Actions" box, click this
Then "View all sizes"
Click "original" on the far right
Then "Right Click > Set as Desktop"

Hope that helps,

Michael

Back on thread, the Pizzeria will serve a large market well. Destined to be a great alternative to the authentic local food, and to complement it with another choice. The pizza is wonderful with a serious Greek flavour to it. Mine was superb.
