Thank you Mick - but what do I do with it? Sorry to sound so thick, I clicked on the link and then though "oo-er, now what?"
Help!

Janis, I love using Smileys [like you haven't noticed!] & while ago, I think it was Lynn who provided me with the following link. It's so simple to use - just copy & paste.
http://bestsmileys.com/pageindex.htm (http://bestsmileys.com/pageindex.htm)
If I can do it - you can (http://bestsmileys.com/happy/7.gif)

Janis,
on the first page you will see a list of smiley categories, click on any of these they will show several smileys in that category, have a look at all the sections if needed until you find the one you like then click on that one and a page will come up with a list of codes, for the forum you highlight that code (make sure all the code is blue) then copy (Control key and c), return to the forum post and have the flashing space indicator where you want the smiley to go to then post (Control key and v). If you are still flummoxed send me a pm and I will try to explain better (http://www.easyfreesmileys.com/smileys/thinking-023.GIF) (http://www.easyfreesmileys.com/facebook-smileys.html) lol Mick

I hate being a party pooper, but please be careful of website's that give free downloads for smiley's. The two mentioned by Sara and Mick seem to be safe but be wary of others.
For peace of mind (and I have mentioned this before) use Firefox with the Web Of Trust browsing tool (WOT) and you can download it here .. http://www.mywot.com/
Install it and then do a Google search for "smileys", you will be surprised by the results.
I think WOT is one of the best tools I have ever used on a PC and since using it I have had no problems with spyware etc.

Thanks for that link Terry. I will definitely download it. I have Norton installed on my computer which tells me if sites are safe or not. I only ever open sites with a 'green tick' & never even open the ones with a 'grey tick' where security information is unavailable.
I did recently have problems, but that was after my daughter had used my computer....she has been banned from using it now!!!

I know what you mean Sara the ive lost count of the times i had to format the hard drive when we were on Windows 95 because the kids had downloaded a virus or stuffed things up completely
It used to take an hour from start to finish which was far quicker than trawling through all the files trying to suss out what was wrong, the best thing about 95 was you could boot up in DOS format the hard drive and reinstall everything a bit more difficult on Windows Me, XP,Vista and 7 but thats progress for you ;-)

ps will have another look at yours tomorrow, Mick
-
Sara, there is a lot of different smileys on this site to the one I use, good on you. Ttfn Mick.
-
MnM, Mick for short, I have had a good look at that site now. It is quite challenging to get in at first for most, but is like an Aladdin's cave when you make the effort. So many emoticons, smileys, icons.
But we still need the one with you in the chair, sailing across the road in front of white-van-man. It was a classic! If someone animated that, I would add it to all my posts....
with all best wishes
Phil

Just love that site, thanks to Eileen for introducing it to me... :) and teaching me how to post them :)
riggers.

Hey!...Glad you all like the Best Smiley website. It is good, is'nt it? but don't thank me, thank our one & only Eileen. Looking back she helped Riggers & then Lynn, back on November 1st 2009 copied & pasted the link for me in this topic http://www.arillas.com/page/option,com_smf/Itemid,165/topic,5277.0/lang,english (http://www.arillas.com/page/option,com_smf/Itemid,165/topic,5277.0/lang,english)

Yes, love it! The only prob (or not, as the case may be) is that the ads at the top of the site reflected some hotels I've been looking at in the UK...
Wots it all about ??? (to quote the great maestro)

Wots it all about Huh (to quote the great maestro)
Tracking cookies, maybe Janis? Afraid I don't understand computers, I'm sure Terry or someone else might be able to explain. I just had a look at the website again & the only adverts showing are 'Smiley' ones (http://bestsmileys.com/clueless/6.gif)
-
There are tracking cookies on the "Best Smiley's" website, but they are only used by Google Analytics. This is how the cookies appear ...
The Google Analytics cookies are used by Websites to track the visitors to their website and sometimes where the users are located in the world. We use Google Analytics at work to see how many people have viewed our website and to see what pages they have looke at. These cookies can be blocked but its more hassle than its worth.
I would guess that if you clicked on one of the adverts you would get additional cookies and these may not be so safe.

Thanks, Terry - I mentioned it to Viv today when we met and she'd not seen the ads either...
I do, as a matter of course, delete browing history and cookies from time to time, but have to try and remember user names, etc., first! (I use quite a few family history websites)
As long as I know it's no real problem I'll let it go for now
Thanks again (my hero!)

Erm!!! I forgot to mention something.
Lindypops - You can't eat these cookies!!!!!
-
Cookies? I`m here.
-
mmmmmmmm ready for a light curry maybe Terry. You know what I`m like if you talk food!!
-
bugger i was hiding them chocs.....that's the diet up the swanny (cheers Terry ..lol) thanks really.
-
Lindypops luvver, I hate cookies. At least I hate the electronic ones - don't ever seem to have enough chocolate chips....
I delete them as fast as I can. Now Maryland Cookies dunked in a cup of real old fashioned tea - bliss! The whole packet gets deleted in minutes!
Terry as usual, is right on the money about this. Justlove his role as the forum techie. Have watched him help so many over the last while. We are so lucky to have such a range of folk on here.
And riggers mate, must remember to bring some chocs when we meet in Arillas next time. Taste great dipped in Mythos...
Phil
-
Yes can't wait to meet again Phil....forget the chocs...Mythos is much better.
Indeed Terry is so Helpful at times..........must give him a nudge... lol Terry..
Love to all...
