Title: Thomas fisher taverna and accommodation
Post by: Hancock on November 14, 2009, 06:27:28 PM
Hi everyone

We've just booked with easyjet for next year, arriving in July for 3 lovely weeks. When we were there last year we found a fish taverna on the quiet beach road and the owner was called Thomas, very friendly & lovely family. Does anyone know if he has an email address or his number as would like to look at booking with him for the 3 weeks, we seem to have lost his card.
Have checked out Mathraki and that sound lovely but would prefer the family run taverna and studios with Thomas.

Here's hoping.

Hello Dave and Jane.

If you go to the Arillas interactive map and click on Vavilas apartments it should give you the phone number for Thomas.

Barry.

You can find this by looking in accommodation in the menu. I think I am right that you mean Thomas Bungalows. The contact details are there.

Have to agree - Vavilas (the fish taverna) is wonderful. Jen and me have eaten there several times in every trip we have made to Arillas. Thomas and his family are typical of the lovely people you meet in Arillas.

Hope you have a great time next July. BTW - Jen and me are there from 12th to 26th July. Please come and say hello.

Phil

This accommodation can be confusing.
Thomas Bungalows are owned by Thomas Kourkoulos Tel. 0033-26630-51058.
Thomas Vavilas (the Fish Taverna) also has apartments/rooms next door. His contact Tel. number is 0033-26630-51820. I think this is the one you want Dave. I have known this family for several years and agree with Phil, lovely food and lovely people.
Yammas,
Martin.

Thanks Martin. I always get confused with those two. Maybe we should stay there sometime soon. Both are wonderful choices for position. Can't wait for my next meal at Vavilas....

Hi Phill!
I love his 'seafood platter' special. Half the Ionian sea on a plate, wonderfully cooked, with all those local veggies...mmmmmm! Roll on May!!!

Martin.

I'm drooling Martin. Whenever I go to Vavilas I just ask Thomas to feed me whatever he thinks is best. Usually the platter, and never been disappointed. Roll on next summer...

riggers mate, if you eat fish you will never get better than Thomas's at Vavilas. He can even beat Roula's Bourdetto at Brouklis... (I might live to regret that comment)

The platter is his choice of the day's catch, cooked by himslef and to die for. But if you're eating in the eveneing, keep your mozzie protection on full strength. Surrounded by greenery, opposite an olive grove, the mozzies are abundant. But it is a most amazing place to sit and chill, such a part of the Arillas experience. And his family are gorgeous.

Whoever started this thread is clearly going to be or already is another Arillas Addict. Hancock - you are not alone...

Well yes i just luv fish Phil....now comes the insult, i only ever had fish from a chippy. I would hate them eyes looking at me from the plate, lol.

riggers mate, just tell Thomas you hate eyes...

Seriously, Vavilas is one of Arillas' treasures, It is a mustn't miss. Our local artist Jean Walsh and hubby Senan (justhope I spelled that right) made the new billboard outside, but inside the food is real, home cooked and delicious. Eating there is like being on the verandah of a special friend. Nobody visiting Arillas should miss a meal there. If you want fish and chips you will find out what that really means.

riggers mate - you will love it. But make sure Sue is protected from the mozzies.

Phil

riggers, tell Thomas you know the lady with very long hair, and the silly old man she eats with, I think he might remember Phil and Jen. Many do...

Ask for fish and chips, and you will be surprised how lovely it turns out to be. You won't worry about the chips....

Enjoy

Last May sea bream and chips and local vegetables followed by Yoghurt and strawberries, sprinkled with hundreds and thousands washed down by Thoma's white wine was one of the best and most memorable meals I had at Thomas Vavilas Fish Taverna, and the fantastic company.  It was the night I had the honor of eating with Viv, Pete , Janis and Barry and watching the sun set light a giant firey ball

Enjoy

Hi Mary

Thanks for that I think it is Vavilas,

Phil
It's not Thomas Bungalos, we got confused with that, Thomas the Fish Taverna man has apartments behing the Taverna and he showed us round when we were there this year.
We are also going on the 12th of July, if your on same flight and getting a taxi do you fancy sharing, no problem if youv'e made other arrangements.

First time for us booking independant with easyjet on line, really worrying that I've put the documentation information in correctly although checked it 3 times before sending.

May actually see you next year, bring on July 2010, wishing our lives away.

Regards
Jane & Dave

I think the code should be 0030 and not 0033..maybe that might work.

Think you're right riggs about the code. Hancock, our EJ is from Bristol leaving at silly o'clock and arriving about midday. We would be more than happy to share a taxi. We will book with Noula anyway, and let's hope we can share. Half the cost for all of us.

In any case, make sure you come and say hello. We will usually be seen in the Rainbow, the Nut or Brouklis, or on the beach. Er, well all over the village. Don't be shy (we're not...)

Agree with all comments on Vavillas....lots of great places to eat in Arillas, but if forced to pick a favourite, this would be it, for atmosphere as well as the food. Thomas is always friendly, funny and welcoming. Riggers if you are a little wary of fish..don't have it.
I often do as the Greeks do and forsake a main course and just order 5or 6 starters for us two to share, with a carafe of house wine, then still have room..just for a pudding and then a couple of brandies, lovely!!! Agree with Phil about applying extra mozzie protection though real mozzie hotspot...but so worth it!!!

Oops! Sorry. Yes the code is 0030 NOT 0033. I had just phoned a friend of mine in France and, well...sorry! I'll have to put more water with it!

Martin.

For me and the missus this is the best restaurant in Ariilas friendly the sea bream is to die for, unfortunately still neevr had the fish platter becasue it always sold out by the time I get there. The wine is lovely, the family are great its just what Arillas is relaxed, gentile, unrushed the way life should be. I can remember last time we was there in September we had a coffee after and Thomas brought out a carton of milk and put it on the table. To me that typifies Arillas its all about family and nice cheerful people. Question though does Thomas tell anyone else on eher what they are going to have to eat? or is it just me.

Agree wholeheartedly with all comments here, Thomas and his family are so down to earth and lovely.  Its like going home to see old friends.

The delicious Sea Bream, this tastes much better than it looks!

Just finished another delicious meal, Thomas saw the camera and said lets take your photo, we are laughing because he was calling billy for not being romantic and made him put his arm around me, a great memory of a lovely night in Vavilas.

Thats a lovely pic Viv and Mary.  I love Vavilas.  That night we went, I was served my wine, it was white I had ordered red.  So i took the carafe back into Thomas and told him, Georgia was down the cellar.  He tutted and shouted Georgia!, he says to me, am sorry she had too much sex last night and keeps forgetting things today, lol.

Thanks Sharon - ha ha trust Thomas to say something like that , he has got a great sense of humour. I can remember another time in there and I ordered a glass of water and what I got was a glass of white wine, I didn't complain though! Got my water in the coconut bar where we headed next.

Love Mary :)
