Title: 'New webcam'
Post by: martin-w on May 05, 2009, 01:59:57 PM
Hi!,
I have noticed that the webcam format has changed. When I look at it it says 'connecting to media' then 'playing at 57kbs/sec' but I never get a 'view'. Not sure if I am doing something wrong or perhaps its not working yet! Will be there in a couple of days anyway to see the view for myself.
Yammas,
Martin.

Hi Martin - I wondered that as well! In fact, I also wonder if looking at the webcam and youtube videos affects my download amount. I use bt internet and am on the lowest download level
Ah well - who cares? After Thursday there'll be no pc for me for two whole weeks - getting really excited now!

Hello Martin and Janis,
Its definitely not a new webcam. Only the way it;s broadcasting is different.
due to the annoying adverts that we had with zaplive (http://zaplive.tv) broadcasting Chanel I have changed the streaming Chanel to cam streams (http://www.camstreams.com/)  I have been playing with it over the last 5 days, it seems that a certain amount of  people can be viewing at a time which means that you may have to retry until someone leaves in order to view .
I will try and fix this accordingly to our needs until then you must expect some errors.
In cooperation with Akis 'im also trying to set a cam server  where we will be doing this without the need of a third provider.

for those who are experts on this  i.e: TerryW , kes
my broadband connection is a 2048/256
the picture is set to 3 fps

any recommendations are welcome

If you right click the webcam video there are some options for d/load connections..don`t think they make much difference ,as it is set to Auto..but try playing around with the settings...

3 fps seems low?  do you mean 30?

3 frames per second is not perfect but it is enough for a low bandwidth connection

30 frames per second would be OK if we were all under a local network !!

Thanks for the explanation Dimitris!
We can have a chat about it on Friday afternoon over that chilled Mythos!
Keep up the good work. We all appreciate it.
Martin.

I love checking the web cam every day, but recently had the same problems as others here, may i suggest you try earthcam.com , i have signed up to it, its free, and may give a better service, may be worth a try.

I've got a new laptop, and since I got it, I can't see the webcam. I've tried the plugins I've been informed about on the webcam page, but nothing happened, so I've given up. On the brighter side of things tho, as from next week, I'll be able to walk to the beach as often as I like, just to look at it...........

Hi Maggie!
I have an Apple Mac and since the change have not been able to see the webcam 'live'. It just says 'connecting at **** b/sec' and never shows me anything. Tried everything. Have a good trip next week! Wish I was still there.
Yammas,
Martin.

The webcam is currently offline. To save you worrying that it may be your PC go to the hosting site - http://www.camstreams.com/asx.asp?user=corfu  and you will see if it is online.

Hosting webcams, for free, can be a nightmare at times and I think Dimitris has moved to a different hosting site due to advertising on the previous site. Also, its really hard for Dimitris because he hosts the website with his own funding, but tries to do everything possible to give us the best holiday website and forum, on the internet.

I think the change in views is fantastic and its good to see parts of the south beach.

Thanks, once again Dimitris.
