Title: Accommodation Favourites?
Post by: Paul D on March 01, 2009, 12:07:16 AM
Hi, everyone.  Here`s something for you to think about.   Have you  all got your favourite places to stay at which you would always stay at no matter what? Not wishing to offend any owners, but of places we have stayed the Rainbow was excellent.
I might change my opinion in three months time, however.
Of all the places forum members have stayed at, I wonder which one would be recommended most and why. Just something to chew on.......

Oh golly golly golly Paul that is difficult, as you say we don't want to offend other owners whom we have stayed with....but...we just loved the Mathraki.  Lol..although I'm sure most of you who have read my postings know that by now!

Nicolette and family provided such a chill out place we found it so easy to relax and unwind.  It suited us perfectly.

Can I just mention Thomas Bungalows?  Not much is written about them but they were a favourite too. Two bedrooms and a living/kitchen area, two terraces for dining and very pretty gardens. We were in a tranquil world of our own and yet 5 mins walk from the beach.  The gardens are lovely to lounge about in and very safe for children.

My word, that must be very hard to answer. As you all probably know we will say "Kaloudis " every time. I am sure where ever you stay in Arillas you will have the perfect holiday. It will be the 8th time this year in June :) and i hope many more to come.

Paul luvver we would stay in a tent on the beach.

Anna, Alex, Rainbow, Nafsika, Brouklis, Tria, Galini, Mathraki, Marinaki, Marina, Akti, ElenaStella, Mirage, Tomas, oh whatever. I could quote them all. My list could be on Google. We would stay anywhere in Arillas. Preferences are about  Spain and elsewhere. We stay with people we love like Anna Krasakis and family (Anna Studios.)

Arillas is all up-market. Millionaires and poor people like me can feel the same here. All you need is the desire to connect. Heaven.

Hi Paul,

I agree with Phil that anywhere in Arillas would do us.  However, we are so fond of the Bardis family (Poppy, Spiros, Bobby and George) that it would feel disloyal going anywhere but the Bardis Sun Studios.

Unless of course they were fully booked when we want to go, then we may try anywhere, probably the Kaloudis or Mirage.

It's the local people that make Arillas what it is.
See you in June.

I would agree with you all! You can't really go wrong in Arillas as all are so welcoming and friendly. I always stay with Dorita an Aris Bardis at the Bardis Sun Hotel. I think mainly because I like that 'end' of the village and I feel 'at home' as Ann loved it so much and I have so many good memories there.
Lynn, I use the B.S.Studios' bar in the evenings, after dining in the village, again spoilt for choice, and the Bardis family (no relation to B.S. Hotel) are fantastic. On my own, or with friends, we have had some memorable evenings!
All Arillas is 'magic'!
Yammas,
Martin.

Yes, Martin - we met you in there many an evening last May!

Dorita and Aris would be another option for us as well, of course.  I originally thought the two families were related.  But on reading Eileen's Afionas thread, I see that the Bardis name goes back a long way.

Hi Lynn!
I hadn't forgotten our evenings at Poppy's. It was a case of forgetting to put  "Lynn, as you know". I put it down to that glass of ouzo while I was typing!
Hope to see you and Colin again there soon.

It has to be the Horizon for me. What a view first thing in the morning! It is also really convenient and the staff are brilliant too. I get too spoilt there to go anywhere else now, although I have enjoyed the Marina, Bardis Sun and the Rainbow in the past. If I had to try somewhere new it would be the Akti. They have put in so much work on the place and are so lovely. Cheers,

We've stayed most of our visits at Tria Adelphia and it will always be my favourite. We have our own house now tho, but will still visit Tria frequently.  (well, we don't have a pool do we???)

After spending 13 out of 16 holidays in Arillas at the Tria Adelphia I think it goes without saying where our favourite place is, but as others have said we would stay anywhere so long as it was in Arillas even at this place which has not changed much since we first came.

Mick, I always wondered about the skeleton. Crikey has it been there that long?

I've always wondered about Pagonia apartments http://arillasmap.awardspace.com/gmap_arillas/?item=81 (http://arillasmap.awardspace.com/gmap_arillas/?item=81)  Occasionally when I've been in Captain's I've seen people, perhaps family,  in the garden.  Do you know anything about them?  Were they the one of the 'orginal' apartments of Arillas?  Do they still let them out?

Eileen, are these the apartments where the reps used to live?
Title: Re: Accommodation Favourites?
Post by: Eileen on March 03, 2009, 12:20:37 AM
I don't know Maggie, I don't know anything about Pagonia Apts, I do vaguely remember they have mural type paintings on the walls or shutters.

I remember a few years ago seeing reps sitting out on the balcony of apartments further along the road.....(On the road to the Tria A) after passing the Galini...then crossing the bridge the apartments were on the left.  LOL...but I can't even see them on the map so maybe my imagination is getting carried away.  Is it just me or does anyone else find that from a distance it's difficult sometimes to remember the exact locations????

These are also known as Peacock apartments  - I think because of the mural.....and yes, the Manos reps have stayed there the last few years. Just opposite the Rainbow. But they also let out the apartments - Vasilis is the man you want. Lovely and spacious with quiet gardens....

Hi all,
Our vote has to go to Irenes Villa Apartments - Eleni & Spiros are wonderful hosts and a real 'home from home'.
Title: Re: Accommodation Favourites?
Post by: Paul C on March 05, 2009, 08:36:08 PM
I must agree Elsmum, we have had a couple of brilliant holidays there. You cannot fault Eleni and Spiros for their kindness and the way they make you feel that the apartment belongs to you and not just a rented base. That said we had our first holiday in Arillas at the Rainbow, different type of accommodation but really good.

I have only stayed at Bardis Sun Hotel and Bardis Sun Studios, staying again at the hotel this year, both are fantastic!!

I love the little walk down to the seafront, not too far at all, cannot wait for September when we will be there again, oh how ive missed it!!

Just love strolling around at night time with the waves lapping at the beach, so romantic, the atmosphere of Arillas is just divine, my little paradise!!

Thanks Sandy.  I can imagine it would be nice and peaceful there - yet it's so close to all the amenities...the best of both worlds really.

Grandsons favourite is Nafsika, why because he gets chocolate spread sandwiches with Jimmy and Spiros boys while watching tv.  Apart from that they have the swimming pool, pool table, darts, Eggy what more can we say.

Independently we love staying with Spiro at Portofino, beach across the road, sunsets to die for and a mad a Greek downstairs ha ha ha, love him really especially when he makes me bacon sandwiches ot chips at 4am.

we have stayed at the mathraki three times and the marinaki twice. going back to the marinaki again this july. both the apartments are great and the host families are lovely and welcoming.
plus my daughters love george at the marinaki because as they say he's fit.(teenagers today)

Hi ann marie. Mathraki and Marinaki are both superb. But so are they all. We said before, even a tent on the beach would suffice. It is Arillas that is "fit."  Fit for purpose and a great place to be. After so many visits it is obvious you agree. Please keep posting on the forum. Would love to hear more from yous.

We loved Bardis Sun Hotel  last year, nice size rooms and bathroom, fridge and kettle even though it was B & B, nice situ, and Dorita is lovely... reading all these posts again makes me want to go back but sadly its Cornwall for us this year...  Bardis sun Studios were great although the room was fairly small, not much room  to walk around the bed, we kept banging our legs on the beds.  Any news on the Galini this year?  They are nice apartments too.

Hi All,

i am really biased here  as we have stayed at the Makri for the last 3 years we have been in Corfu. As we are now helping them in getting rentals i may seem some what leaning towards their side. i can assure you i am getting no financial gain but i think they have a really great set-up. Apts with a pool and  bar serving great food and superb hospitality what more could you want. Please have a look at www.makris-arillas.co.uk for more info

thanks

We have stayed at the akti the last 3 times and are booked to go again may 29th and sept 25th. Cant wait. Spiros and monika are lovely and the whole family will do anything for you. The pool and jacuzzi are wonderful. With a glass of mythos at your side what more can you want. The rooms even have a shower and a bath. Yes a bath!We go b & b but always go to sea breeze for cooked breakfast though. Sets you up for the day. Cant be doing with these continental breakfasts. . We know you will enjoy your stay wherever you decide.xx

hi tonynglenda

nobody here will disagree. Akti is yet another great place to stay. Or just to visit. Monica and Spiros are just as beautiful as just about all of the local people. It is what makes Arillas so special and why Jen and me are so obsessed with the place.

My breakfasts are usually beer but I'm no lager lout.

I save myself for the best sofrito I have ever tasted at Brouklis, the orgiastic garlic prawns at Grazella, the sea bream at Vavilas, the.... Could write another page about the fantastic food here. And probably have elsewhere on the forum.

As regular visitors, you understand what I'm saying. I eat late, you eat early, who cares? Have seen people eating the "full English" at 4pm. Jen and me would be at Grazella with mezes, red wine and watching Gravia and the waves...

Like I said, we would stay anywhere. A tent on the beach rather than not be there. We don't have a favourite - as long as we are THERE.

My Accomodation favourite is pretty obvious! Built to please us at least.

The Atki looks lovely but I have never got past the bar! The pool area is lovely, as is the Marinas new one. Stayed at Marina once or twice. All very nice.

Hovever if I can follow Phils theme and accomodation can stretch to food then I can get really excited about stepping outside.

Marina for breakfast for Georges full English sitting watching the placid morning sea lap the shore. Even with yellow label tea! Gyros for lunch from the Grill opposite or wander down to Grazalla for a 10 Euro 3 course fish lunch. Sandwiches at the Amos with a fresh fruit juice creation.

Which leaves you that fabulous choice for dinner. Broukis for the days special ( and finger foods we just keep ordering till we are stuffed!) A lift up to Mon Amour for the lamb, tzatziki and bread. (Did have pork once but everybody elses lamb looked so good) Horizon for pre-dinner cocktails, the coconut for a couple afterdinner cocktails, icecream specials, a chat, boogietime, a game of pool whilst just a bit too squiffy to play well, then the Atki's bar for Metaxas and maybe a look at the dessert menu.

Discovered the Fishermans in St. Georges last year with its fabulous view. Afternoon tea at the Golden Fox overlooking Paleo. Hire a boat on the beach and blat down to Paleo for pizza and greek salad.

Hanging out at Sidari water park (of all places) for a day too, with people bringing you drinks and snacks and ice creams while the kids wear themselves out. Surprisingly good food for lunch too.

I have only scratched the surface. Not been coming long enough to have discovered all the great dishes in all the great places to eat even just in Arillas.

Favourite accomodation? Ah just parachute me into North West Corfu aiming at Arillas. It'll do!

In 2007 I stayed at Alexandros apartments - quite basic, but adequate, set in lovely grounds, and VERY handy for the Rainbow!

Last year we splashed out and stayed at Helios Court Villa, which was outstanding, but a bit of a hike from the village.  There is a path leading through the olive groves towards the bakery.  I set off along that path to go to the Malibu to watch the Champions League Final last year, and encountered two white rabbits.!!! Knowing that nobody would believe me, I attempted to take a snap on my camera, but the light was fading........ now everyone thinks I'm a nutter!!!!

I have only scratched the surface.

In spite of our reputation Jen and me really appreciate the finer things of life and have done plenty of it. But in Arillas we also realise we have only scratched the surface. But what a surface... ticks boxes, satisfies needs, turns on...

I was deadly serious - in 1973 the Arillas Hippies (thank luvver Eileen for the title) would quite easily have slipped into a simple life in Arillas. Who knows, we would now be welcoming guests to our taverna on the seafront. Me in the kitchen learning traditional Corfiot dishes (from Roula at Brouklis) and trying to make them new and sexy like Thalassa does, and Jen chatting up the customers in the front of house. Subscribing to arillas.com and being part of it all. Ah dreams... Never happened though.

But we have no regrets. Non, rien de rien, non je ne regret rien.... En francais? non peut etre. nous ne regret rien...

The tent on the beach really appeals to me next week. To share with our great Arillas friends in the Easter celebrations would be so special to us both, and and and...

o well, back to my padded cell...

just returned from a lovely week based in Arillas. :-)
Stayed at Nikos and it was great...soooooo quiet, if that's how you like it ( we do) and clean. The kids loved it too...maybe it was having a pool to themselves...?
Stayed once before at Makris but before it had a pool, so that's going back a bit, it was fine there too..and before that at some other apartments between Makris and the beach..but beyond Kokinos..I think they have been renamed now and they looked really quiet ( empty?) this week.

Now figuring out when we can make another revisit and we wouldn't hesitate to go back to Nikos. Thanks everyone for a great holiday.

We have stayed in two places in Arillas so far.  September 2007 we stayed at Kokinos in one of the one-bed, downstairs apartments, which was fine.  The upstairs ones are even better.

Last year at this time we were in Bardis Sun apartments, which was great too, and we are looking forward to returning there on 8th June this year.

Hi all.
Bardis Sun Hotel, 3 visits, Mathraki twice, both excellent. I can honestly say I would book anywhere in Arillas with total confidence...although maybe not too close to the Nut..where all you noisy buggers hang out..lol! You know I am joking. If we get over in Sept as we hope we will visit the Nut for first time. When we stayed at Mathraki last Sept, we sat on balcony post evening meal with coffee and Metaxa and could hear the Robbie Williams tribute singer and all the applause and laughter, and was very tempted to venture down to take a look.
Hope everyone has had a great weekend. x

I've never had a bad stay in Arillas. The first year that we came we stayed at Nikos apartments, lovely setting and very peacefull but a bit of a walk with young kids. Rainbow was excellent very well run and we were made to feel very welcome. One year at sea breeze and although it's had some bad press, I've stayed in worse places and the room was as you'd expect. The last couple of time that we stayed it's been at Mirage, which is probably my favourite. It's only two weeks untill we'll be there again. I would like to try anna's studios one year, these look lovely and I've only heard positive things from the people who've stayed there.

We have stayed at Marina, Kaloudis, Brouklis, etc and all were lovely but for the last few years the magnet of Bardis Sun Studios has continued to pull us back.  The rooms are spotlessly clean, nothing is too much trouble and the family are wonderful.  The pool is cleaned every day and in 2 mins walk you are on the beach.  At night a short stroll for dinner and a short and romantic stroll back is wonderful and if you want a night cap at the bar then it's right on your doorstep.  It's perfect for us and the following morning you get up when you want and Poppy will cook you whatever you want for a very cheap price.  You can hear the sea from the balcony and the views are spectacular.  It's paradise for us.  One week today we will return - can't wait!

We stayed at the Galini the first time and it was great,  mostly due to the great crowd of people who also stayed there at the same time..
The following year was at the Bardis Sun Studios and we loved it, although the bedrooms are fairly small we were on the ground floor, had a lovely balcony and was a hop, skip and a jump to the nearest sun bed and pool, the beach 2 mins and the nearest taverna even closer!
Last year we were at the Bardis Sun Hotel and loved it there equally, breakfast was a treat every morning and with a tv in the room it was a novelty watching the greek programs when the weather was wet.  Staying that end of the beach is great as its so quiet with fabulous views of the sunsets.

Wendy and Stu, will be thinking of you staying with Poppy again - wished we were there too this year.

Sorry but I'm going to have to say, as much as we enjoyed the hospitality at Bardis Sun, really couldn't be run by nicer family, we stayed in the two rooms next to the bar.  I did not know that these rooms were there when I booked and so assumed we would be allocated rooms in the main building so I was extremely disappointed, no views or privacy at all.  I felt very uncomfortable sitting out the front as people had to walk past to go the toilet and you could see/hear everything going on in the bar.  Had I known about these two rooms, I may not have been as disappointed but it took the edge off the holiday for me.  I post simply to warn others who may not have been before and like me, end up staying in a room very different to what they were expecting.  I hope I've not offended or upset anyone here - not my intention.

Hi Cheryl,
No offence taken here.  That's a fair enough comment - must admit we always asked for a top floor with a view.

Its good that you have said as my two friends are staying there this year so I will tell them to ask to be put in the main building. You ok by the way? Don't see you on here as much these days

Hi Jo, am fine, thanks.  Don't get on here as much now I'm working in Manchester (too many people about in the office!!)  Try and make sure your friends get a room in the main block.  How are the renewal of your vows plans coming along?  Will miss you this year as not going until September xx

Hi Cheryl, no offence at all and I fully understand your comments.  It's usual for families of 3 to go in the rooms that you mention due to the fact that they are a little more spacious for the 3rd bed or cot.  We always ask for a room in the main block, either ground floor for quick access to the pool or top floor for the views.  I am sorry that it took the edge of your holiday.  Its' worth pointing out to people for when they book.  As you rightly say the Bardis family can't do enough for you and so I am sure that they will try to accommodate people's wishes.  Take care.  W & S. xx

Accommodation favourites?  - mmmm  -  have stayed at Galini, Kokinos, next door to Kokinos. Marina apartments and Mathraki studios. returning to Mathraki studios next month so guess thatīs my  favourite. Would gladly re-visit anywhere though, and know from calling in at many other of the accommodations in Arillas, that I would wallow in the welcome they all provide year after year. Roll on 13th June!

Geoffrey, I try not to pick out any of our hosts as better than others, because the truth is I could stay ANYWHERE in Arillas and be content. But when asked about a particular place, I can sometimes offer a point of view. Mathraki has so much to offer. A lovely pool, wonderful people, quiet position just up the hill but near to everything... Have never stayed there, but definitely would. Have spent several long lingering days by their pool.

Justknow you will enjoy your return visit.

btw - our twin boys' birthday is 13 June, so much celebrating will occur on that day!!!

Agree totally, you are practically guaranteed a good stay anywhere in Arillas, but we found the Mathraki particularly good, just the right degree of attention without intrusion, clean room plenty of storage, balcony that got sun most of the day...blissfull for breakfasts and baklava with tea late afternoon...should not really be promoting this...as we have not booked yet, but hope to next week for Srpt. xx

You are so right, Phil.

Even though we have our own personal favourite, this does not mean that everywhere in Arillas would not be as accomodating, and I expect each place would have different advantages.

We just love Arillas!

As people have said, I think no matter where you stay, you are bound to get a good welcome and good service.  The village knows how to take care of us, cos it`s not yet been taken over by mainstream tourism, and is small enough to care, and big enough to deliver.

As I have said before we always rent out Ina's flats and enjoy the property. We are then able to eat at different restaurants and do our own thing in the evening. BUT would love to know whether we would be welcome to use other properties' pools, obviously buying drinks and snacks etc......always feel uncomfortable about doing this! Also would we be welcome at somewhere like Bardis if we weren't residents? We tend to go just to The Horizon in the evening and have never wanted to intrude on The Rainbow, Bardis etc.....this after 7 visits to Arillas!!
Title: Re: Accommodation Favourites?
Post by: Sandy x on May 19, 2009, 12:36:58 AM
Of COURSE you can use the pools and you MUST go to some of these other bars...it is expected of you Gaye! I think I am there while you are there....we must arrange for you to come into the Rainbow at least while I am there. You will always be made most welcome.
Title: Re: Accommodation Favourites?
Post by: justlynn on May 19, 2009, 12:46:19 AM
Hi Gaye,
We have stayed at the Kokinos and Bardis Sun but we have also used the pools at the Mirage, Makris and Tria Adelphia.  As you say, obviously buying drinks first, but we have always been made to feel welcome at all of them.
Bought drinks at the Splish Splash too, can't remember why I didn't use the pool there, although judging by the photos it was on a grey day... which wouldn't normally  stop me.....
We called in at Bardis Sun Studios for a drink while staying at Kokinos, and the welcome couldn't have been better, so you should definitely give it a go.
I do know what you mean though about feeling a bit uncomfortable to start with, as we have never been in the Rainbow, but after reading some of the fabulous reviews on here, this is a must to do for us this year.
cheers,
lynn xx

I know what you mean Gaye. The first year we were there we had to be out of room by 12 noon and our flight was not until very late that night.Unfortunately they could not give us a room to keep on, as they had guests arriving. Therefore we just wandered around all day. Could not go to beach as had no where to get showered and changed. We also would have felt as if we were intruding using other facilities. However we now know the hospitality is second to none and as long as you contribute by buying drinks etc you are made very welcome.
Do visit to the Rainbow where you will not be dissapointed. How about starting with one of Jimmy and Spiros fabulous breakfasts, a few drinks round the pool and if you get peckish later a nice lunch. In the evening everyone is welcome. The bar is great with a good atmosphere and marvelous cocktails...... Oh I wish I was there right now !!!!!

"Hello darlings" is still featuring highly, as is "lovely jubbly" and "OH YES!" on frequent occasions.

Gaye, you will always get a good welcome from the Bardis Sun..especially if Bobby is there... he is a really friendly and happy guy... Poppy is lovely as is all of the family...  you can pop in any time  for a drink, sit round the pool... pre dinner drink and a good after dinner cocktail made by Bobby... my favourite.. a pink flamingo..... Poppy also does a pretty good egg or omelette and chips if you fancy a change.. her eggs are lovely - free range!

Hello darlings

We found the Rainbow on our third visit to Arillas. It is a must for all newbies, if you are in the mood for banter and fun. Most are after that in the holiday season I guess... Some like me make a career of it.

Jimmy (Dimitris) and Spiros are fabulous hosts. They have put up with us frequently. A smile will set the process in motion. Anyone can join in - that is the whole point. The two of them will always make you welcome if you join in. It is but one of the choices available in Arillas. And believe me, you can spend years sampling them all.

I should have replied to you way back in May, but I haven't been on the site since then --- sorry but it felt like torturing myself as we are not booked for a revisit yet!!
This may all change as we are hoping to be back next year for 2 weeks with sister and brother-in-law too.
well you wanted more details about our holiday...

We had great meals wherever we went; Captains Taverna was popular and the new one up at Afionas (we like a long walk for our supper) - see our addition to the post about their mezes...fabulous and a big hit with kids and grown ups.

We stocked up on herbs and spices at the supermarket next to the bakery while we were there...great value ..but more exiting  I used them to make stifado this week; a big hit and tasted pretty authentic if I say so myself!!! What a great way to recall our holiday. Oh, and the goodies from the bakery...worth going back for alone.

our boys loved the fireflies, terrapins, toads and other wildlife, even the swallow that joined us in the apartment for a while.

Ssoooooo looking forward to our next visit...

Hi Craig. You obviously like to be near the middle of things with that list! These days Jen needs to as well because she doesn't get very far on foot, and I drink rather than drive....

You asked about Thetis Palace - it is set behind Mathraki and has had some great reviews, not least from Eggy. There is an easy way to the beach from there and so it is in a really good spot. Had we not got a room at Brouklis in July, we would probably have gone there.

Mirage is Thomas Cook, so as independents, not an option for us, but so understand why it's top of your list. The view from the pool or bar is like a mirage. And Nikos and Angela are lovely.

Whatever you decide you will love it. We could be in a tent on the beach and still enjoy being in Arillas.

Can't believe no one has mentioned Irenes Villas Lux Apartments (just next to the Marvelous and the Rainbow); a small apartment block with all the comforts of home, and a brilliant welcome from Eleni & Spiros.  We go back year after year...

Island girl luvver, we haven't mentioned anyone really. I said we would live in a tent on the beach because we don't want to suggest one place over another. But if I am honest (moi? phil? him??) we really don't care. We spent a whole month with no garlic crusher or any of my cooking utensils. Here in blighty I have every shape of utensils you can get at my disposal. I wouldn't want to make a wedding cake in Elena Stella, but that wasn't on our agenda.

Eleni and Spiros always go two extra miles to make Irenes Villa Lux apartments special. They always get eleven out of ten, and Eleni, we will stay with yous one day  soon. Yes please, luvly jubbly......

So understand what yous said about your stay there Island Girl. But if i'm honest I could sleep on the beach in July. Arillas loves me, and I love Arillas

And so does Jen she just shouted to me....

Hi, everyone. I know this topic is old, but I thought I`d give it a little nudge.
We`re staying at Rainbow again this year, so I guess it`s
one of our favourites. But we`ve also loved the other places
                     we`ve stayed at.
I know some of you like to return to the same digs year on
year, but would you consider elsewhere in the village if the
                     price was right?
Would you stay in the same place no matter how much it costs
cos you`ve found the perfect place for yourselves and because
of the friendships you have made there?
A famous person once said he`d sleep on the beach if necessary-
not tried that, but if it means being there.......

We loved the Mathraki apartments Paul hence staying there again this year but other elements enter into our choice From the Tour operator ,airport, flight times etc
I guess we are lucky that Mathraki are with Thomson this year and we can fly from Leeds Bradford on a Friday afternoon at 3.30 and its 3 miles up the road 10 mins in a Taxi
I would certainly stay at any of the other apartments in Arillas if say i could only get a night flight from Manchester to the Mathraki , ive done a few night flights and vowed never again after the last one
Looking around Arillas to me all the apartments we saw looked brilliant so would stay in any of them that had a departure from LB

In the early years of visiting Arillas, we stayed all over, all of the places having their own charm.  I am a real beach lover so when we saw the Marinaki being built we always said we would love to stay there and thats what we have done.  The only way we would stay somewhere else now is if they were completely full, as I would rather be anywhere in Arillas than nowhere!

Made for good reading- especially as there were posts from people whom we`ve not heared from for a long time. Where are you now?
Any of you changed your mind about your favourites? Though I have to say anywhere in Arillas would be a favourite. To any newcomers to this site, what do you think?
Anyway, sorry for rehashing this topic.

Don't apologise Paul. New posts get read much more than old ones, and promoting our favourite accommodation can only help.

We could happily stay anywhere in Arillas, but we chose Bardis Sun Studios for July, having stayed there last year and made firm friends with all of the family. It has a lovely pool, the accommodation is spotless, it is on the flat and almost at the South end of the beach road. And like everywhere in Arillas, a truly welcoming, friendly atmosphere. But we always try to stay at Brouklis in late October. So I guess they are our favourites.

We always used to go to Kaloudis in May, but then started to go to Arillas twice a year, so it's Kaloudis in May and Horizon in September/October.

It's better at Horizon because when we set off for our daily walk round the village we can turn either left or right, whereas from Kaloudis we can only go one way (ONLY JOKING!!)

Both places are great - love 'em both for different reasons...

Over the 14 years we have been going we have stayed at several places.

First visit was an allocation on arrival and we were thrilled to be given a room in the Marina Hotel.  Opened the balcony doors at 3am and we were just hooked from there, never been any where but Arillas since.

We have also stayed at Makris, Arillas Bay Apartments and Rainbow, all are a little to far to walk now after rolling out of Coconut at some ungodly hour.  We stayed at Portofino for a number of years and the views from the balcony are to die for but we needed more space with Calum being older.

We now love th Marina Pool apartments, you open your veranda doors and what more could you ask for, pool, beach and of course our Sharon and her home made cakes. They are also 2 bedrooms and kitchen which is great for us. When we took Mam we stayed in Marina Hotel because of the lift and because if we went for a walk (the times poor Mick didn't tak her in her wheelchair) she could sit on the balcony and still feel part of everything that was going on.

Ohhhh well totally homesick now, jut under 7 weeks for our first fix of the year.  Ooops forgot I'm at work well better get some done now.  Paul thanks for nudging this one back up to top

this is a very easy one for me - the only place we would stay is the Kaloudis Village - the warmth of the welcome, the quality of the accommodation, the fab food and drink, the facilities and the location are all brilliant - and the lovely deep pool is the best - we go every year and love it to bits!!

Anna Studios. I just couldn't stay anywhere else now - my daughter grew up in that pool year after year.

As I am new to the forum I've been reading posts dating back for years! It's great finding out about different restaurants, accomodation, beach, the people, in fact anything and everything about Arillas!
Our first holiday in Arillas was in July 2012  and 2013 (first time that we've visited the same place for 2 years running) You've guessed it, we too have got the Arillas bug!
Sadly, we are not going this year as we're off to Alykes in Zante but we've already booked to return to Arillas in 2015. Excited already!
Can someone tell me where is the "Nut?"
Happy Holidays everyone!

It's me again! We stayed at Kaloudis apartments on both visits to Arillas and couldn't fault them. We will be returning to Kaloudis August 10th 2015 for two weeks. We usually go in July but I'm sure it's just as great in August (extremely hot!)
Also, where is Atkis? We do lots of walking when we're there but haven't come across these two places.

It is the Coconut Bar, located on the road leading back from the seafront, opposite the jetty. It is one of two bars with very different atmospheres. It is where you will find me the most time I can manage......

The Akti is a super hotel, opposite the Coconut Bar and Malibu Bar. Very popular place to stay.

Can't believe I didn't make the connection...."Nut"... "Coconut".... silly me! Yes I know where you mean now. Thanks for that Phil. We've never really fancied the Coconut bar, (hope I'm not offending anyone?)
We usually eat very late in the evening (English late) we don't usually sit down to order food until 9pm -10pm which can go on 2-3 hours or more! We usually then go for a stroll to walk it off and return for a late drink or two at the Kaloudis bar or have a drink on the balcony!
Maybe we will try it next year. Are the cocktails as strong as they are in the Ammos bar?
They make the best B52's ever! My mouth is watering just thinking about them now!

So sorry if I've offended any Coconut bar regulars. We just enjoy going back to Kaloudis after our evening meal to chat and catch up to other Kaloudis bar users and the lovely young Billy and other staff (usually stopping off at the Ammos bar for a cocktail!) It has nothing to do with the look of the place or the people, I'm just addicted to having a delicious B52 cocktail after our meal!

Suzy.... Don't be a "dilly" - No one is offended.

We love the boys at the Nut but don't do evening visits as the noise can be too much for "old" eardrums!

Doesn't stop our very good friendship though.

Each to their own. - Just enjoy what is good for you.

Thanks for that reply Negg. Only just joined the forum and loving it so don't want to be upsetting any one just yet although you all seem far to relaxed and easy going (a bit like Arillas itself! ) to take offence too easily. Our kind of people.
I'm off work at the minute (school Easter break ) and It's pouring down with rain outside so I'm having a very lazy day before I return to work reading all the posts. It's a bit addictive isn't it?

Suzy, as Eggy says everyone has their own idea of what is perfect! We personally love the Coconut but also Ammos and the Horizon hotel for a chilled out extra special cocktail.  The Akti also has a lovely chilled poolside area for late evening drinks and last year saw the return of Whispers bar.  We tend to do much the same as you, nice leisurely meal, then perhaps to one of the other three then onto the Coconut to finish our evening.  When 'brown eyed girl' comes on we always chuckle and think 'we are here'!

Jo, we loved the Whisper's Bar too. We popped in one evening on our way back from the Akatori (the road way back) We're not that brave walking in the dark on a cliff top!
Anyway, at one point as we were enjoying our drink ( I should say drinks!) in Whisper's, the barman (can't remember his name...really lovely man) he had to pop out and as he left he told us to help ourselves to drinks and just leave what ever money we think's correct on the bar!
We didn't but we know it would have been ok if we did.
Another of Arillas's lovely qualities. Very trustworthy people!

You can't go wrong anywhere in Arillas, but we love the Kaloudis Village and can't think of going anywhere else - it's not the accommodation, it's the people we go for and we love them all to bits xx
