There cannot be anyone that has visited Arillas that has not had at least one meal at Kosta's restaurant. His friendly manner always made you feel as if you had been his best customer and friend for years, even if it was your first ever visit. Without a doubt Kostas was the epitome of all that is Arillas. He will be sadly missed by all.

Wendy and I are totally shocked by this and didnt know until I logged into the Forum late morning.
Kostas was a great credit to his family and a part of Arillas which can never be replaced. A good friend and always a friendly face.
" Lovely Jubbly " will be a phrase that will never sound the same again for us.
I will miss those lunchtime summer ouzos and the occasional winter tipple as well.
Still find it hard to believe.

Hi. Sorry to have been the bearer of this sad news. I didn't want to put which Kostas it was as I didn't feel it was my place but we wanted to let our friends over there know we were thinking of them. Couldn't believe it when my Daughter received the text yesterday afternoon I had to phone Kostas (Coconut) to make sure it was correct. He will be missed by all who visit Arillas.

-
Helen and I are sad to hear the news and send our my condolences to Kosta's family and his friends.
It would be really nice if the messages in this topic could be printed out and handed to the family to show how much he was thought of by visitors to Arillas.
-
I was thinking that myself Terry. Am sure that all of these plaudits will be of comfort.
-
Since many of the family don't read the forum, Terry is right - it would be good for them to know how much he meant to all of us.
Perhaps our webmaster Dimitris can make sure they all know that more than fifty condolences were posted in 2 days on here, and show them what we all said. I can't say that the response surprises me though, we have all lost a beautiful part of our Arillas.
RIP Kostas
-
If you look at the top of the home page you will see that there is a space for this to happen it has a little icon of a letter, unfortnatly it is not working correctly at the moment but im sure Dimitris will make sure that they are all seen by family. Viv
-
What a sad loss to the whole community. RIP Kostas.
-
We are shocked and so very sad to hear this news. Kostas was someone we always looked out for, he was part of Arillas. He always had a smile and such a lovely welcome. He was a kind and gentle man who loved his family, loved his home and cared for us all. We are so very sorry and send our deepest sympathy to his family. Wendy & Stuart.
-
On behalf of the family of Kostas I just wan to say a big thank you to all the forum members for letting their thoughts being with us in this difficult situation.
The funeral was yesterday at 16:00 in Arillas church where over 400 people came to say the last goodbye to Kostas on the Beach.
The reason of his sudden death was a brain aneurysm (http://www.bafound.org/info/index.php).
He was operated in Thessalonica where he was taken by a military plane immediately after he was diagnosed in Corfu but he did not win the battle.
The people of our community are very sad. It will definitely not be the same with out Kostas Kaloudis on the beach of Arillas.
-
Thank you so much for keeping us informed Dimitris.
Kostas was a lovely , lovely man who will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him, I'm sure.

I have just read the news about Kostas, and am deeply shocked. The guy was a legend in Arillas and will be sadly missed. I know it`s a bit late, but myself and my wife wish to send heart felt sympathies to all of Kostas` family and friends.
We first met Kostas back in 1988 and this guy made our holiday, since then we have brought our daughters and other members of our family to corfu and all have said the same about Kostas.
Rest in peace Kostas

I've just read this too and am shocked and saddened :(
He will be missed by alot of people.
-
The news in Arillas last week is that the family will open Costas on the beach taverna this season. I do hope so....what greater mark of respect could there be for such a well-loved man.
-
hear hear Sandy. What deeper mark of respect than to continue his life's work. Jen and me will eat there in July, with tears in our eyes...
-
I agree
It's a lovely mark of respect and will make a part of Kosta's live on.
Take Care
Mary

i too had a text form Yorgos of "helens creps" sayin his uncle had been took ill and sadly pasted away. Our thought are too with the whole of the koloudis family.
Long live the taverna in the the memory of kostas
-
Great news that the taverna will continue. That way, the memory of a fine gentlemen can live on.
Best Wishes Paul D
-
We look forward to eating there again, so sad that Kostas will not be there, with that great big personality x
-
Our sympathies go to all of his family. He will be sadly missed.
-
we are all so shocked – I don’t visit the forum as much as I should for one that loves arrilas so much. (Lesson learnt) the clements family are sending sincere heart felt condolences.
Costas was a top bloke – I remember him putting a table on the beach for dinner for a guy who was about to propose to his girl – nothing was to much trouble. and then him tapping me on the shoulder at the airport saying I owed him 10 Euros and I couldn’t leave the island till I paid him – (really he was dropping his mother in law off) a good guy that will be missed on my next visit.
I will go to the bar and have a beer for you me old mate.

Has Kostas on the Beach opened? I haven't noticed anyone's comments mentioning it.
-
It wasn't open and no sign of work being done yet when I left on the 19th
June
-
June is right - no sign of anything happening, and we were told there may be a problem with using the name. Not sure how correct this is though.............
lynn xx
-
Something to do with the license we were told.
I wish someone would water the flowers out front though.
-
It will be such a shame if this is left to fall into disrepair as has happened with Arilla Inn. Surely the seafront is a prime location. I am amazed that nothing has been to tidy this up as it gives a bad impression to first time visitors.
-
Maybe Kostas family are still too upset to deal with the restaurant as it is still recent since the tragedy happened - so I'm guessing in time it will open again.
Take Care
Mary
-
The tables and chairs are stacked up outside, which they weren't in May, but I can't see it opening now. I originally heard that Costa's sister was going to open it but she is cooking at Thalassa this season (very nice too).....unless of course there is another sister.
-
As the two are conected,Thalassa and Kosta's maybe the famalies have decided out of respect to keep Kosta's closed this season, maybe as their emotions are still too raw it would be difficult for them to trade and keep smiling when customers would be asking where's Kosta etc, not all the visitors to Arillas come on this forum.
Also it makes a bit of commercial sense especially if volumes/holidaymakers are down this season as Im led to belive.
On the other hand it may well be that there are issues with licensing, probate etc
My respect to the families involved.
Ang
-
I do hope that people dont think I was being disrespectful by asking the question? It is just so sad to see once beautiful taverna's shut up and neglected.
-
Jo, I don't think the thought of you being disrespectful even crossed anyone's mind. We all know you too well for that. On the contrary it's a great tribute to the man that he's left such a legacy of caring customers who would like to see his business continue.
Eileenxxx
-
In a couple of days IT WILL be open.
The reason why it was not opened yet was due to bureaucratic difficulties and less to do with the thoughts above.
just watch this thread
-
Good news then! Thank you Dimitris :)
-
Great news. I'll be dining there very soon then!
Eileenxx
-
On the other hand it may well be that there are issues with licensing, probate etc
Thanks Dimitris I was perhaps trying to say the same as you "bureaucratic difficulties"
good news then folks....no doubt we will be popping in when we are over and glad to hear they will be opening soon.
Ang
-
Great news and very fitting to the memory of such a lovely guy.
-
Excellent news...a good excuse to go back this season!
-
You mean you needed one, Sandy??

We are looking forward to dining there again in May 2010. Our very best wishes go to Kosta's family and friends x

Hi Janice fancy a foursome again. Viv

Hi Viv - how wonderful! I was just thinking about you too and was going to ask the same question! I'll email you

-
Can't believe it's a year since Arillas lost Kostas, he will always be remembered.
-
Oh my goodness - so long? Time passes so quickly. We'd like to send all our very best wishes to his family.
Janis x
-
Anniversaries are always difficult and I also send best wishes to Kosta's family. But how proud he would feel of the wonderful job they did with his restaurant last summer.
-
Yes they did a fantastic job, and when you think that people would have been going in all the time that didn't know and ask where he was, what pressure to bear and still carry on smiling like they did. Best wishes to all family and friends. Viv
-
We're looking forward to visiting the restaurant in May. It wasn't open last May when we were there
Janis x
-
I am looking forward to visiting Kostas on the Beach again this July. The food is as good as any, and you can have a wonderful evening there. The name should stay the same in my view - a tribute to the lovely man we have all lost.
Phil

I agree - what a memorial to a very nice man
