Title: New Visitors to Arillas
Post by: Eggy on March 02, 2005, 03:42:00 PM
OK Good People of the Forum, get your thinking caps on.
Friends of ours want to spend a week in Arillas in September. They are child free and want fairly quiet accomadation, with a pool, maybe 5/10 minutes from the beach. ( No hills to walk up or down ) They were going to do flight only but with flight prices seeming to be on the increase probably a package deal would be cheaper and easier for first time visitors. Recommendations very welcome.

Eggy,
The Horizon is nice and quiet has a lift and a pool no hills,Bardis sun(though maybe a bit noisy)Ivan will be in a better position than me over the Bardis.Mathraki also ask Eileen.they are the only ones that fall into all the cats.Up hill (gentle walk) is the Rainbow complex, rest of the places are a bit to far out.Makris now has a pool and has always been quiet, then you have the Gallini, Tri Adlephi and also just past the Gallini the new place and also on the corner by the stream the place owned by the people from Arillas Travel.I dont think there are anymore in Arillas with pools, oops tell a lie there is one up past the Tri Adelphi it's with Manos but i do not know its name. Then there is Anna's of course but that IS up a hill

Only been to Arillas once (so far). Stayed at the Rainbow, nice people, nice pool, not too noisy, 5 - 10 mins walk to beach.
Can't speak for anywhere else, but have booked the Rainbow again for this year.

Also Arillas Bay. has it's own pool. Just behind Sea Breeze, Manos, I think thats the one Harold's thinking of. A nice roomy apartment  with a triffic view but does not have a lift.

Hello Viv,
No i forgot about Sea Breeze,on dirty old man corner. The place i was thinking of is before you get into Arillas, its the first place you come to as you start to drop down from the main road, its on the right, about a 30 minute walk from the front.

Hello Eggy,

We have only stayed in Annas and Mathraki, both to be recommended, but Annas is up a hill so that one is out!

Well you've read all I can say about the Mathraki, I've written about it often enough    I've never known it to be noisy, that is one of the reasons we keep going back, it's such a 'chillout' zone :D within an easy walk to the beach.

There is also Thetis Hotel just around the corner from the Mathraki, it looks gorgeous, but I don't think that it is with a tour operator, your friends would have to book it independently.  Last year another member had booked up The Thetis and was requesting information, it would be interesting to find out how he enjoyed it.

Harold, are the apartments you are talking about called Katerinas, set back a little off the road?

Eggy,
Bardis Apts. were very quiet (last Oct.) nice, the only downside was fairly small rooms, Bardis Hotel (we're going in May) has bigger rooms and a nice pool area. I would class either as very good accomadation
                                                   Ivan
PS been bad, still stuck at lesson 20, very busy!

Many thanks to all for the info. Although being  regular visitors to Arillas, for longer than I care to remember, the last 7 years (clue there!) we have done flight only so when it comes to recommending package deals we are in out of touch. I think our friends plan is the 2nd week in September when all this info received will be looked at.
Cheers All

Eggy,
Early September can be quiet expensive with the tour operators i have noticed.

Yes Harold The Thetis is the new place 'around the back'.  I remember the tout, (I only saw one), I asked him if it was timeshare he was touting and he got quite angry with me for even mentioning the word. He followed me up the street all the time denying it was timeshare, but would not tell me exactly what he was selling if it was not timeshare! :?  :?  :?

Walk past the Tria Adelphi on the road out of Arillas, keeping The T.Adelphi on your right side, a few minutes further up the road on the left set back of the road are Katerinas apts....but then again mabes they are not the ones you meant in the first place.

Dionysoss I and II, which Viv refers to, are part of the Rainbow (along with Nafsika) and so have a nice pool right on their doorstep.

Title: Thetis
Post by: Eggy on March 04, 2005, 03:32:30 PM
Harold
If the "Hotel Thetis" is the one you are thinking about, and is the newish hotel with an appartment block / restaurant and pool at the front, then this is the one you can book with Arillas Travel direct. Olga showed us round the apartments last year and very nice they are too. Quite spacious with double bed, plenty of sitting space - and TV. I think the price she quoted us was about £28 a night for two.

Hi Eggy

We were in Arillas the 2nd week of September last year and stayed at the Bardis Sun Hotel.  This is a real chill out place so i would recommend that.

Eggy, it was Nikos i could not think of,The Thetis is set in a lovely area,Sally and i enjoy walking around there, you would not know you were in Arillas it's so peaceful and quiet up there. We found the area by accident 2 yrs ago,we were looking for the 2 Villas that were with Simply Ionian at the time(they no longer do them)and at over £1000 each for 2 weeks at the beginning of May we decided against them.

Thanks to all for a great response. Our friends have narrowed it down to 2 places. - I think I will now keep you all in suspense until they make their decision.  A close third was Lucy's beach tent ( See "The Beach" ref Stuart) But was eliminated because there was no maid service.
However....... Arillas here they come in September. (19th to 26th)

Eggy

Don't be too sure that Lucy wouldn't provide room service.  It would only take a couple of swishes of her tail and the place would be sick and span.   :D

There wouldn't be any bathrooms to clean either - a couple of doggy poo bags should do the trick.

In fact, she would even bring them a couple of bougatsas for breakfast - that is, if they don't mind her carrying them down in her mouth?
 :P

On second thoughts, there might not actually be much of the bougatsas left by the time she got to the tent, so perhaps your friends have got the right idea after all.

Hello Malky,
i knew who's father it was,but did not want to put a name up to save any embarrasment.I knew he had died, but did not know that his wife was still around, thtas nice to hear.He was always a friendly old man and always said hello whenever we pasted(sol ong as he was not busy). The corner house was just a hut as well i suppose.Him having a wee did not bother us Sally would just look away as we past and i suppose it was part of village life :)

I've just posted a reply to the thread - Nikos Studios - and then seen that Nikos gets a mention in this thread. Does anyone have experience of Nikos? We have booked a maisonette there through Manos and are not really sure what to expect. We love peace and quiet so it sounds ideal - but they always do in the brochure, don't they!

Good People
Just to let you know that our friends have now decided on their first holiday to Arillas. They are booking the Hotel Thetis, room & Breakfast, with Arillas Travel for the 23rd to 30th September. Working out the costings, added to flight only and a taxi to and from the Airport comes to about £590 for the 2 of them. So how does that compare, I wonder, to booking a local hotel through an English tour operator.?
There was a recent query about Taxi costs, somewhere on the site, but not sure where. Booked through Arillas Travel it comes in at about £32, one way, based on an exchange rate of e1.44.
.
Regards the Nikos enquiry from Pete E. I am not sure whe the Nikos is  but I am sure a lot of others know and can offer feedback.

OK Alex
I forgot to mention a big thanks, on behalf of my friends, for all the input everybody gave in helping them make their choice. They really appreciated it.
P.S. It's their Honeymoon. - But don't tell them I told you, and the rest of the site. Never could keep secrets.
