keep hearing about this beer is it better than mythos and does everyone sell it.
-
I think it is and I tested several bottles during my fortnight in June :D It is slightly sweeter than Mythos, a bit like Keo if you ever travelled to Cyprus. All the shops in Arillas sell it and so does every bar, restaurant and taverna that I visited.
Only 23 sleeps and I will be back to enjoy it ;)
-
We preferred it to Mythos & lived off it for a full 2 weeks! (No Hangover!) It didn't seem to bloat me up as other beers can do! We still did manage the odd Mythos of course!!
Plus, it is soom to be brewed in Arillas, which made it taste even nicer!! :-)
-
It took me a few days to get used to Royal Ionian but after the third day I liked it better than Mythos. It was sweeter and I found it quenched my thirst better. I also found it better to drink before a meal because it didn't give me a bloated feeling.
Lastly, I have to agree with Timbo that it was nice to drink a "local" beer and feel that you were helping the local economy.
-
It's a darned sight better than I can get here in UK (except for Stella which isn't available in my local.) I gave it a good try in July, and agree it is a tad sweeter than Mythos.
But I still prefer the Mythos. Takes all sorts eh...

Thanks to Justphil I don't seem to be the only one that still prefers Mythos. Viv
-
thanks for replying i look forward to sampling a few on monday
-
Its worth mentioning that Mark (from Mark and Dee) is responsible for the publicity shots that you will see around Arillas of this beer. A lovely large one at the supermarket just down from cash machine (which worked just fine for us by the way and we used it lots unfortunately!!)
-
Like Terry said it may take me a while to get used to this beer as i'm used to Mythos and Alpha, i think the amount of time it will take to get used to it will be about 5 seconds after the 1st mouthfull lol ;-)

If Erja "The Biermeister" has tested this stuff then that's good enough for me.
She's like a Michelin star for beer !
-
hi all, must mention the other beer sold in rainbow, its called first, they have mythos and first on draught and have to admit the first was a very pleasant drink. As a strongbow drinker here at home it takes a while to get used to the lager, but the first hit the spot, yammas, chris
-
hmmm must say as a one of the younger forum members i must i prefer ionian,
not a fan of larger over here, more of a cider drinker (pear cider atm!) but yh ionian was allright,
not a patch on the old ouzo tho ay !?

im not a lager drinker myself only drink real ales so royal ionian i think i will prefer as i think it is a micro brewery from what i have read on it.
-
Jen only likes real ale. Lager, top fermented, CO2 injected, even Royal Ionian is too gassy for her.
She is thinking of starting an old fashioned real ale "micro" brewery out there. Import hops from Kent (where we come from) then crack the malt in the old fashioned way. Pints that need conditioning. Would have to dig a cellar.
Reckon she'd get any customers?
Phil

me for sure a pint of suffolk strong or hobgoblin would be great.any jobs when you start brewing.

Mike preferred this beer to Mythos this year... he was hooked. I heard they are opening a brewery museum for next year on the hill somewhere... dont know if that is true or not!
-
Afarid I'm with viv. Are we the only two left?? I still prefer the sharper taste of Mythos. Unless they are ultra strong I can't drink sweeter concoctions. Takes all sorts I guess....
Phil
-
I liked this beer too, and the price was amazing which made it even better !
-
Hi Phil make it three of us, Pete is a Mythos fan as well. I know this R.I. is local and I guess if I had to drink as there wasn't any Mythos I could get used to it. Mind you im still an Mataxa fan as well. lol Viv
-
ahh ,,royal ionian ,mythos ,metaxa,,,,deffo my kind of site..lol..............yammas..ps forgot ouzo...
-
We werent metaxa fans until this year.. we got through 2 bottles of the stuff... we had colds and didnt we sleep well! Well that was our excuse!! :-)

as royal ionian is brewed at a micro brewery it probably contains no chemicals unlike other beers which give you a chemical hangover.i prefer the taste ,mythos tastes to clean for my liking you can actually taste the yeast and hops in royal ionian.
-
I must admit i'm with Phil on this one i dont mind a couple of bottles of royal ionion but still prefer Mythos

As a genuine real Ale Fan and a life member of CAMERA and therefore all but completely forsworn the poisonus lager that is Mythos and I am afraid Amstel I have to say that the Royal Ionian brew is an absolute godsend.
It reminds me of a Microbrew called Sam Adams in the states that caught on in a big way.
Peter is with me in Arillas right now and has kindly offered to test the hangover characteristics of the Brew before we leave on Monday night.
Bit of a tummy bug going around Arillas area at the moment, which he should clear today.
Will keep you informed of his headache Monday morning.
-
Don't get me wrong. Local micro-breweries are our thing too. We have fed many of our parties on locally brewed real ale. We are CAMRA supporters too. Jen loves the real ale even more than me. But if I drink top fermented lager beers, I want crisp, acidic and flavoursome beer, and Mythos delivers all of that. It has divorced me from my other woman, Stella.
'tis just personal taste.
Phil
-
I wish you hadn't mentioned the Tummy Bug going around. When i was last there i was confined to the Room with it.
riggers....
-
So sorry we missed your last couple of days riggers. We could have repeated the piss-up we did the week before! The only time my legs (not my liver) left me for dead and Jen had to find our way home. Will repeat it all one day soon..........
Doubt it was the Royal Ionian that upset your stomach though. It is a very good product and has captured many Arillan beer drinkers (plead erja, plead....) and is like CorfuSoon says it reminds me of a Microbrew called Sam Adams.
The debate will roll on but meantime, mines another large Mythos
Phil
-
It certainly wasn't the ale Phil, unless a lot of the children was drinking it. There seemed to be something going around. As i told you i had to eat dozens of immodium to get me home.
riggers.....
-
Tummy bug, Immodium ?
sounds like the donut man is back in town
-
Ha Ha John. We have heard of recent sightings on the forum........
I didn't have one moment of dicky-tummy in the whole month. All that Mythos, vodka frappe, Greek food, partying and making merry made me feel well. Then I get a serious ear infection and have to visit the doctor when I get back. Speaks volumes to me......
Phil
-
That sounds like my kind of luck, Phil! Hope the ear is better?
-
Pardon Lynn??? Deaf as a post and hurting like hell. I know that a week in Arillas would cure me.
love
Phil

Hi, everyone. Not tried Ionion beer yet. So will put it on top of my list for next time. I`m not a big lager fan, but Mythos goes down a treat. My favourite drink? - vodka with anything.
How many of you really like ouzo? I can`t stand it.
Paul D
-
I am an Ouzo fan, but i love everything.
Yammas.
riggers...
-
Hi, riggers. Maybe next June we can sink a few ales at Kaloudis. I think our paths cross at that time
-
Yes for sure Paul. Looking forward to it.
riggers...
-
Hi you two. Wait for Jen and me - with any luck we'll join you!
Paul - ask Hannah in the Nut to make you vodka frappe like Phil and Jen drink. We showed her our recipe and she turned it into an art form. SUPERB.
Phil
-
Hope to see you both there Phil.
riggers.......
-
Hi, Phil. Will certainly take your advice. Keeping fingers crossed that we`ll see you and your good lady.
Yammas, Paul D

Good on ya mate. Hope you enjoy your stay at Kaloudis again next year. I wil have a for you on Wednesday.
Yammas.
riggers...
-
I`m still looking for a good deal.
-
Hi all
After many bottles of the Ionnian in the sun Peter reports no ill effects.
Tummy bug has nothing to do with the beer!
Its only a 24 hour bug. Not too awful at all.
Regards

Phil
