After a lot of efforts from several people in Arillas we have managed to get an ever wanted ATM.
Today the service people from EUROBANK came and installed the main parts of the machine at ARKOKAL TRAVE (http://arkokal.gr/)L where it will be situated in Arillas.
A big thank you to all the people who have been requesting it to all of us over the past years, and those who voted at arillas.com surveys about what Arillas needs more (http://www.arillas.com/page/component/option,com_poll/task,results/id,17/)
It was very difficult for the banks to afford to have one in Arillas as the amount of people visiting the area
was never enough (for the bank).
In one of my last years meetings with the Bank manager Mr Nikolouzos, I had tried to persuade him to do it for us, explaining to him how vital this for the area is and that Arillas, being in the middle of the beaches of Agios Stefanos and Agios georgios within walking distance, is the ideal Location for an ATM.
I had also said that even if this was not enough we were going to sponsor the fee for it's property rental.
After Mr NIkolouzos had seen the syrvey on our website he was able to start thinking positive and he finaly sent us the banks System engineers to investigate the areas.
So today I can say that YES in Arillas we have an ATM and it is situated right in the centre at Arkokal travel near Armourada Restaurant and Brouklis Taverna!

Hi Dimitris, I'm not surprised about that, must be a man with good taste.

Hello Dimitri,

This information is SOoooooo useful to us, thanks so much!!! I was worried about what to do, you know, should we take travellers cheques, should we take sterling, should we take euros.....I keep checking what everyone else is doing on the site and there's been loads of really good advice, but I really wanted to be able to take our Nationwide card with us and just get cash out when we wanted to (as we usually do on holiday.......and its commission free too) and now we can!!

Thats great news Dimitri,Sally and I will use it,must look for the Bank manager on the beach, will he be the one with pin striped skin LOL
-
Thats really great news
-
It doesn't take much to make us all so happy eh!! Will there be a charge to use this ATM as per the majority of 'rip-off- Britain?
-
I was thinking he might have a bowler hat on. Viv
-
YEAAAAAAHHHHHH! Good work Dimitri!
Thank you.
-
Just a query here, will there be a charge to withdraw from a greek bank account?
Does anybody know?
-
Thanks Dimitri. Well done !!
The information is worth knowing for Agios Georgios visitors too.

-
Brilliant news! Well done for campaigning for it.
Will the bank manage be the one under the black umbrella?
-
That is really good news!!! Gives peace of mind.
-
That is great news, I will make sure I pull some cash out now just to see the transaction on my bank statement (or hubby's). Now the servixce has been provided we'd better make sure we use it!! Thanks Dimitris for all your efforts!!!
-
This is great news ! it was always one of my worries, running out of money. So now me and my paranoia are very reassured :)
-
That's really great, Dimitris, and well done everyone who voted............Only trouble is now, I'll probably spend more than ever. It can only be good for Arillas.
-
Marvelous news. Thanks for all your hard work Dimitris.
-
Thanks Dimitris and everyone else who has campaigned for the ATM. It is wonderful news.
It has to be good news for both the visitors and our Arillas hosts - knowing we can easily access cash if we overspend means stress-free spending!!
Viv - he will be easily recognisable as he will have his bucket and spade and his sarnies in a black brief case - underneath a black umberella of course!!

Brilliant news about the Atm we can all spend more money now....only don't tell my husband. Only joking ,well done Dimitris.
-
Maggie,we are with the Nationwide and whenever we go into Corfu town we use the hole in the wall and we get the current bank rate(not the tourist rates) and no charges,it depends who you are with,if its on the link system then it should be free.Hope this helps.
-
Thanks harold.
-
this is great news for arillo phobes and the economy of arillas too ,now all you arillas addicts can take yourcashpoint cards(no charges either) with you ,espec nationwide flex account card,i used mine in sidari last september and got an exchange rate close to e1.50 to the £,no need to get your money exchanged before you go,you'll have more money to spend in arillas then !!
-
Well done Dimitris & all the other Arillians, Thank you Mr bank manager to have been able to see the effort & dedication put in by all the locals for us folk to enjoy ourselves further (if that is at all possible). Happy shopping but Victor Meldrew (hubby) may whine a little louder now that I have 24 hrs access to funds ...........hoorah.
-
wtg jester,lol. Enjoy!
-
ATM is fully up and running, mum took her spends out this afternoon, she says it's an absolute godsend!
-
Friends
Digesting all this am I right in saying that if you have a Nationwide Flex Account you get, not only a good exchange rate, but also avoid any commission charges from the Bank?
Thanks
Tellis

Great news Dimitis,
Well done!
Dave
-
Well done! a good addition to the facillities already offered. Will save me the usual nightmare trip to Sidari.
See you in July.
-
Terlikitis< yes we think so, we took the card out just for that reason, going to try it in May let you know when statement comes in, but it is just nice to know we have not got go into town. regardless it is so handy. thanx to all.
-
well done to all involved, a much needed asset to arillas
I just hope it doesn't run out when i need it most lol
-
Yes we took nationwide out for that reason too! We are going to try in May also, but may not be able to post as we may be moving to Corfu end June/ July. but will let Dimitris know if we incur any costs so he can inform the forum. To be honest even if there is a reasonable charge from the asset, at least you know there is not two bites of the cherry! We have been told there are banks in Agros also that the card can be used in.
-
HIYA
I CAME TO ARILLAS A FEW YRS AGO COMING BACK IN 2 WEEKS COULD YOU TELL ME PLEASE IS THE ATM UP AND RUNNING NOW AND IF SO DOES IT TAKE NATWEST CARDS
THANK YOU LOUISE
-
Hi LOUISEB1000. Yep, it`s up n running, and hopefully we haven`t worn it out! We like to spend when away, so it`s had a battering! Not sure about NATWEST CARDS,sorry. Enjoy your holidays.
-
How brilliant!! This was our 3rd visit to Arillas and it was wonderful to be able to get at funds as and when we needed them without worrying about getting to Sidari to draw cash. Well done everyone who helped to make this possible. We adore Arillas and cant wait to return later this year. Much love to all, Julie and Michaelxx
-
when we were there last week Mr Hedgehog said go and use the machine but read it carefully, so I did, I was in stitches, it says "if your card gets captured" it just brought to mind a cartoon charater of a of a card with little sticky legs waiving its little arms in the air running down the road saying You cant catch me. Viv.
-
We have just opened a Nationwide account for our hols. They said that they are the only bank that doesn't charge. I am with the halifax and there charges were OTT. Not long now.
-
I think alot of people are going to be getting a Nationwide holiday account !! :D
-
I used the ATM in Arillas last week and have just checked my bank statement. I am with HSBC and was charged £1.75 for the transaction (better than I thought as in other countries it has been as much as £2.50) but the exchange rate was only 1.43 whereas in all the exchange places in the village they were giving 1.45 (but charging commission). My maths isn't very good but it certainly wouldn't be worth withdrawing small amounts.
May just have to open a Nationwide holiday account.....
-
I took €50 Euro out from the cash machine using my RBS account, total english came to about £37 which is fair enough for having the conveniance of a local cash machine abroad....
30 May 2007 C/L 4160 27MAY07
EUROBANK ATM, KERKIRA GRC ,
EUR 50.00, RATE 1.4649, ERTF 0.94, CHARGE 2.00
-
Great news, it will certainly help when we are out there in 2 weeks time. Well done to all for making this happen.
-
A big thanks to Dimitris for his hard work in realising an ATM in Arillas! We are returning this year for our 5th time in Arillas on the 3rd of Aug- but this time as man and wife! (we get married the day before) So we can't wait to have some quality food, drink and charming atmosphere in Brouklis!! Great work Dimitris!
-
First use for us of the ATM machine yesterday. Finally following advice, from a certain Forum member we took out a Nationwide flex account. ( No commission charges )
Got e1.475 to the pound. - Can't complain.
Now, who was that "Certain Forum member" ? - Ah Harold.
- Hope you're on commission from Nationwide Harold !!-
Cheers
Negg
-
we used the a.t.m. with a nationwide card late May/June just got statement NO charges and got 1.469! pretty good eh? So way to go!! Thanks again for the convience of that machine!
-
Thanks Dimitri for looking out for us and saving the journey to Sidari!!
More time this year to spend on the beach and not in the taxi!!
Jules :)
-
I have just read in one of the sunday papers that you can't use your Halifax card in atm machines abroad, for security reasons. Has anybody used a Halifax card in Arillas?
-
We have used halifax in portugal with no probs, but not Corfu only as c.c and no probs there either(touchwood) The only probs we have had is HERE!! And it was prove you are innocent, even though we were out of u.k. at time. Got police involved as were not happy with bank's response and guess what? should have done that at once, even though we were not allowed to know what did go on. It did cause us a lot of stress and made us vary wary of transactions in future. And if you are ditching a computer and only used it as storage and never bought on line PLEASE remove and destroy the D.drive!!!! Well that is the advice our specialist gives, And no we did not own one then.
-
Hello everyone,
It looks like our famous ATM is getting very busy,!!
these people are having the previlege of taking some cash without having to go to other resorts under 38 degrees heat wave.!
-
Busy busy hey!! Can i join the queue. They look like sensible people and most have got there heads protected from the 38 degrees of sun!! Not to jealous! ;)
-
Dinitris
Are you sure you didn't get them out of Broulklis to line up for this?
If not then maybe you should be supplying sunbeds and brollies.

-
Glad to hear that you have an ATM....ummm..has it ever ran out of money....??
Caz ;)
-
this is great news
last year we had to go to sidari and corfu town to get cash and on the days we were there both we and the other couple we were on holiday with were unable to link with our banks and we had to use credit card cash, with a chatge of course.{this is my first ever internet post!!!!)
-
I just want to say that i used the cash machine regularly!! for 3 weeks and never had any problems. There was always money in it. I've never heard anyone complain that they couldn't get cash from it. (the only problem is the queue)lol!!!!!!!
-
We didnt use it but Lynda did without any problems.
I spy you both Peter and Evie.... Hello magazine called me to ask for any information on you!!! ;)
-
Dimitri, ihave just recieved the Manos Brochure for 2008 and in the Arilas information section they quote the nearest ATM as being in Sidari. I know the hard work that you put into getting the machine. So you may wish to put them right especially as you advertise for them.

Thank you cliff,
In order to do that I need the exact pagenumber of the broshure, the refnumber of the resort and aything else that could make it easy for them to locate my quote.
the best would be a coppy of the broshure.
anyone tempted to bring us one over?
Cheers,
Dimitris
-
Dimitri - there may be a 2008 Manos brochure at the Manos office at the Rainbow Bar - they usually have one there. If not, I will bring you one in two weeks if you have not already found one by then.
-
I would bring you a copy Dimitris if I could get over! Hope you and Litsa are both well!
Lynda and I loved the shirley valentine photo on the pic of the day! We have got our own copies that Mike took so dont worry about emailing them to me as there is no need. Thanks for offering to do that though. Sue

I was getting all excited then!
-
I was getting excited as well, thinking that we had good news about the transport strike ending and now we have the ATM back. Oh well the feeling lasted for about 15 seconds.
-
I knew it would be too good to be true!!!!!!!
Sadly, we're still trecking to sidari for our funds....
-
Shucks, it fooled me too!!
