Title: Arillas Christmas Day Videos
Post by: Joe on January 07, 2007, 09:39:37 PM
I wish I had more time to spend on this but I am no expert camera man so apologies in advance for any shoddy camerawork. I have uploaded three videos of Arillas on Christmas day; I think it gives a fantastic taste on just how peaceful it is in winter. There are a few more clips which I will hopefully post later in the week.

The Beach (http://video.google.co.uk/videoplay?docid=6078543730165030483)
Coastal Path (http://video.google.co.uk/videoplay?docid=-4716609497630436878)
Sunset (http://video.google.co.uk/videoplay?docid=171359693156963732)

Kes - If you want to link or embed any of these videos to your website I have no problems at all.

I have a few more but didn't want to bore you all with loads at once, they are all off the camera now so I'll see if any are interesting enough to add, a large portion of them seem to feature the dogs and not Arillas and I'm noticeably absent from them all, hate seeing myself on video.

These videos are really nice, its a lovely warming feeling to watch them, especially seeing the dogs in front of the fire, as when you're over there in the summer your mind won't let you believe that fireplaces and radiators are ever used.  Thanks for sharing them!! Roll on May then i can video it myself!!

Thanks guys, I am starting to get bad withdrawal myself, not seen my Mum since the end of December and I could really do with popping out for a weekend soon, I'm glad she's there but at this time of year I do miss her, fortunately the season starts in May and I can hopefully get a lift on one of out trusty aircraft. Watching the sun go down while having a 3-course feast at the Sea Breeze has turned into a little tradition on my short weekend visits, time really can’t go fast enough.

I see that it's your birthday next month Joe, will you be planning to enjoy it in arillas or will Blighty have to entertain you?

My birthday is the end of April and our flights haven't started then, will hopefully celebrate at the start of May assuming I can get out there, its my 30th as well (ouch) but I haven't planned any big celebrations, it quite a depressing feeling to be honest. On the actual day I will probably be flying back from the Dominican Republic after conducting an audit, not the best way to celebrate, hopefully the cabin crew can find me a piece of cake from somewhere, will no doubt head for drinks with my friends the following weekend.

Aah, its a sign we're all getting older when we don't plan to have our birthdays off work, 30 wasn't so bad for me, but I'm quickly gaining on 35, my god these past 5 years have gone fast. I'm sure you'll make the most of it and the crew will celebrate it with you!

I would love to have been in Arillas for my 30th but its just a week to early. Two of my best friends who I've known since school also turn 30 within a week of each other in July, hoping to have some sort of get together with them in Arillas, that would be lovely.

Is this only me but when I look in the mirror I still see the face of an 18 year old looking back at me, I don't feel like I'm ageing at all.

Well, Joe, I'm a lot older than you but I don't feel old inside!!!
(The outside????? Well thats a different story!)
However, I believe you have to stay feeling young to do

I had my 40th in Arillas last July and it was just the most perfect birthday ever!  Spent the day on the beach, just chilling, lovely meal and a few drinks in the evening, spent with my two children - absolute bliss!

I hated turning 30, it really freaked me out but I love being in my 40's - can honestly say have never been happier.

As for feeling 40 - I still feel like a kid inside, often wonder what I'm going to be 'when I grow up' and my kids are always saying "Oh mum, when are you going to grow up?"  My answer - NEVER!  As soon as you stop feeling the magic of a child, you must wither and die surely!

Have you any grey hairs yet Joe?  That's a bit of a shock to the system but that's what hair dye's for!!

I wish my birthday was in the summer months sometimes, just so i could experience having a birthday when its hot, with it being a week before Christmas its always freezing, still all the pretty decorations are up so i guess thats nice!

I agree with you Cheryl, stay as you are and enjoy life, my mum is 49 this year and im 29 this year, so we always have fun together and she does crazy stuff sometimes, id rather that than a boring mum anyday !

Hi Joe,
Any reminders of Arillas are always welcome, and yes I will certainly insert a link, and thanks for remebering,
How about starting a  virtual tour of the whole Village..Photo`s are great, but it would be nice to take a virtual trip round the village
while we are all at home in the depths of winter..maybe start a new thread and ask forum members for ther contributions.

That's a really good idea, how do you think is the best way to do it?

Hi Joe...
I dont mind inserting another page on my site with the links on,so long as members videos uploded to google there should be no problem, (apart from vetting the suitability of course !!! ) and possibly Dimitri could insert a link on the forum to that page...Maybe start a new thread on the forum and see the response...just think VIRTUAL ARILLAS! (or maybe Dimitris could set it up?...
what do you think..

Sounds great, we just need to get hold of some more videos, may even provide me with an excuse to use mine instead of it gathering dust in the cupboard for most of the year. Should be heading out early May so I'll take it with me, any good suggestions for things/places to video?

Hi Joe,
we are going out May 11th for 2 weeks...As for what to video..I think a walk round the village  would be ok, taking like 30 second to 1 minute shots .could possibly link them someway to refferences on the Aruillas Map....(don`t know how !!! )
Also providing there are no objections some shots of inside Taverna`s..Aptms etc..
I only used the video capability on my digi (stills) camera..but they are ok..
yes sounds a good idea and would deffinately be usefull for first time visitors...

I shall have a nosey through the archives at work and see if we have any software that may help, I'm sure there must be some virtual tour builder programs around.

It really is no more difficult than uploading photo's which you are more than capable of. When using your digital camera you can upload the video (.avi) file straight away, however when using a video camera you need to convert them, Windows movie maker will do this for you and again is very easy to use, it even splits the files up fo you, just connect the camcorder and click convert, don't be afriad to mess around with it you'll be suprised at the results you can get without much effort, I did my mum a video of the dogs for her going away present last year and it turned out great even though it was the first time I tried it.

Hey Joe you a bit of a Steven Spielberg on the side?

Joe,

I was given my Canon DVD camcorder for a birthday present last July, but I have one BIG confession to make!  All my 'movies' are still on the original discs, I've not sussed out yet how to burn them onto a DVD!  It's becoming kind of expensive buying these little discs for the camera so I think it's about time I taught myself how to do it...all the software came with the camera but I'm a bit lazy when it comes to reading instructions!

As you say if I just messed around with it I'd get there in the end.....maybe!!

Eileen.

Hey Joe you a bit of a Steven Spielberg on the side?

I wish, ha ha!

Eileen, just buy a "FireWire" cable such as this (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Belkin-Firewire-Cable-6pin-4pin-1-8m/dp/B00005NIMR/ref=pd_bbs_sr_3/202-0104930-6655854?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1175599776&sr=8-3) (if you're lucky your camcorder may even have come with one) and plug this into your camcorder and PC, windows will then recognize the camera and ask you if you want to convert files from the Camera to the PC, really is that easy I promise. These files can then be edited or uploaded.

Most new computers will have the correct connecters but older ones will need an upgrade card installed inside the machine, that may be difficult depending on how brave you are in opening up your computer, but hopefully you won't need to do that.

Joe,

I've just had a ferret around the bottom of the box the camcorder came in and yes there is one of these cables in it.  Now I just need to get my brain into gear and try it out to see what it does.

Providing I have recorded in the right mode I usually view my videos by putting the disc straight  into my computer.

"Open up my computer"...phew now that would mean trouble!

Excellent, I just hope your computer has the connections you need, if its less than 2 years old you should be ok.

"...half an hour....."  you have a wicked sense of  humour Smiffy! :-)

A couple of weeks after I was given the camera my daughter, grandson and I went to Arillas.  At the end of our stay a taxi was picking us up to take as back to the airport at 10.30pm so we decided to take a circular stroll around Arillas, me thinking that I would be able to make a lovely little film show for the family back home.  Huh, the sun was going down...I had the camera on the wrong settings...and even worse each time I thought that I had paused recording the camera was actually running...the result was 30mins film of either near darkness or my feet clip clopping along as I walked with the camera on 'pause'. :-(

My efforts have slightly improved since then!

Ha ha ha!  that made me laugh... we have had the same experiences with camcorders.  when my dad first had his camcorder he took it to a wedding and most of the time he forgot to turn it off when he was walking along so most of the filming (before it ran out) was taken of his "crotch".  We dont film much now, we are hopeless... the first time we actually used one in Greece we had about 8 hrs of filming (Mike filmed everything dead and living, flowers etc. the lot!)  and as we didnt know how to edit it thats how much was put on the videos... needless to say it takes a brave person to sit through that lot!

I am sure once you have mastered it you will really enjoy using it, but it does take some thinking to sort it out.  Be brave, have a go!

LOL...it sounds like your dad and I won't make it into the Filmmakers Guild!

Your story of Mike filming everything reminds me of Keith!  Years ago when we had a video camera Keith insisted on panning around on scenes for ages.  For instance if he was filming a view of a bay he would pan right around it, then just for good measure all the way back again!   Yawn, yawn how boring, I don't know if we have actually watched an old tape all the way through without fast forwarding it!

LOL in fact it's all coming back to me as I type!  I remember now that in the background of some movies you can sometimes hear me nagging at him to stop the camera and him tellling me to mind my own business!!! Nuff said, I'm sure you can imagine the rest!!

Haha it made me smile reading those, why is it when people video stuff they have to record everything, i hold my hands up ive done it myself, and as you say you watch it and fast forward most of it because you just record so much of something that is just boring!!
