Title: Cheap flight
Post by: kriopigi girl on August 02, 2006, 11:48:53 PM
Just checked availability of flights to Spain for a friend and thought I would just out of interest see how the flight prices to Corfu are at the minute.

WOW !!!! what a bargain £69 return this Friday. Inclusive of all taxes and credit card charges.

Pity I have to work !!!!!!

So anyone free and able to fly from Newcastle ?  Get booking quick.

I love a bargain  Pauline

Hi Pauline,

Yeah, I booked up this afternoon for the Newcastle flight leaving this Friday. It cost a total of £152 including all fuel charges etc.  When searching on XL.com remember to type 'Telegraph' into the Special Offers box to qualify for a further £15 discount each.

2 Sleeps to go!

Hi Eileen

Just read your note about typing telegraph ino s/o box with XL.com, is that code valid only for this season?

Hi JCC,

That special offer code has been running since last year, so hopefully it will continue for a while yet.

There are various codes you can use, one of them is 'Yahoo', but so far as I've seen none of them are giving £15 discount like the Telegraph code is.

If I see any change to the Telegraph code or an even better one I will post it here.

Hi Marie,

See you there, I'll be looking for you.

Eileen.

Eileen,

I'm pleased to hear you get such a good deal, it can be pretty tricky getting such good value flights at this time of year but if you do take the risk and hold out for the cheapest fairs you can often get lucky. 48 hours before the flight the tour operater may release some seats back to the airline if there are holidays still unsold they can at least recoup some of the cost by filling the plane!

Good Morning , My friend and I will be over for a week in aug 28th and I searched high and low for a bargain holiday. I managed to get ours on ebay for £299 inclusive (SC) for both of us. we have to fly from gatwick although our nearest airports are Birmingham/Cardiff/Bristol. I have searched the cheap flights from these airports and although they start from £39.00 when I put the informatiom in from these airports they end up over £350 plus each.
I did notice that up north you get loads cheapy flights. and lots of cheap package holidays :-(
I was looking for a school summer break holiday for myself and my 2 children and although they started at £249 an adult SC or BB bargain holidays(one daughter is 16 and classed as an adult in the travel world but not an adult in UK ) by the time i had filled all the booking pages in the holiday was over £1,200 for the 3 of us which in my eyes is not a bargain!
Regards,
Chrissy

Crissy our nearest airports are Birmingham/Cardiff/Bristol too - and there are cheap flights out there from these airports.

We have just come back from a last-minute holiday in Arillas.  I booked from Cardiff flying out on 31st July (booked it 2 days before flying) with First Choice 'flight only'  It started off at over £250 but I waited and kept my eye on the flight.  It dropped to £150 then dropped again to £106 (this being £34 plus taxes) which was when I booked.  There were still a couple of spare seats on the flight when we went.

There was also a cheapy flight from Bristol leaving on the friday for a similar price - but it left in the evening and returned in the morning so you sort of 'lost' a day.

Dont envy you flying from Gatwick leaving from this area - I try to avoid it at all costs, and with this security thing it will be worse than normal.

Good Luck!

We booked our August flights to Corfu shortly after Christmas and paid around £176 each, all in.  However, on Tuesday 25th July I looked to see what the prices were with XL, flying on the 28th July (the date we had booked) and there weren't any seats.  Out of interest I looked at Thomas Cook and we could have bought return tickets for the princely sum of £45 each, everything included!!  I just can't wait until I retire and can just hop on a plane at the last minute!!

Hi Sue,

I checked on the system for you and you are correct, flights from 11th September at Manchester are above average. The outbound flights are selling quite cheap but the inbounds are very high, i'm assuming there is still a lot of holidays to sell so the seat only price is being kept high. Excel are the only carrier showing under £200, but the flight times are awful.

The loads on the aircraft though are still relatively low so it may be worth holding out as long as you can, always risky but the prices can fall dramatically which to be honest has been the trend this summer.

Happy hunting

Hi, I've been looking for cheap flights from Newcastle 29th September and there seems to be hardly any flight only.  I'm hoping this will change nearer the date, hopefully the airlines will release seats if holidays don't sell.

Don't know what I'll do if I can't get my Arillas fix before the winter sets in.

Hope there are some cheap flights available for end of September.

Have been checking XL website but they don't seem to have anything for the 29th September.  Not having much luck at all looking for that cheap flight I need.  If anyone sees anything PLEASE PLEASE let me know.  It wouldn't be a problem if Mick didn't need major dental work which is costing the same amount as a flight normaly would.  I have mentioned that I go with out him but I can't put his reply on here!

Hi Joe

Just looked at the website and if we change our dates a little can get the whole return journey for £348.90 for me Mick and Calum.  Don't think I would get it cheaper even by waiting till last minute.  Going to work on Mick when I get home, believe it or not this is the exact amount his dental work is costing, know what I would rather spend the money on!

I agree thats a good price for the two of you, it may fluctuate a little in the time remaining but the prices tend to hold quite high outside of Manchester and Gatwick, they are the cheapest I have seen for Newcastle in quite a while. Good luck with it all and i'll let you know is anything better comes through!

That price was for 2 adults and 1 child.  Can't believe it though, Micks passport hasn't got 6 months left on it so have renewed it this morning so not sure whether to book or not, do you think it will be back before the 25th September????????????

Think I'm going to have to leave Mick at home what with his teeth and his passport!

Post by: Joe on August 31, 2006, 11:27:50 AM
Hi Jill,

Only just arrived at work this morning, 90 minutes on a rain soaked M60, no fun at all! Looking out of the window here I can only feel my mum made the right decision heading off to Arillas.

That price really is fantastic then, I say go for it, especially if this lovely weather continues!! The passport office say about 3 weeks, but to be honest its usually less, shouldn't be as busy now as it is earlier in the year. You can get the post office to do the service for you, it costs a little extra but you get it back much quicker. I can't believe a UK passport is £65 now; our pilots need 2 so they get very grumpy about this.

Out of interest I had a quick look at the entry requirements for Greece and a UK passport needs only to be valid for 3 months after the length of your stay so Mick would have been fine, I know its a bit late telling you this now, all the information can be found here http://www.greekembassy.org.uk/pages_en/visas.html.

Hope you manage to get away.

Joe

Hi Jill,

I renewed my passport earlier this year, i sent it off beginning of June and i received it back 2 weeks later and that was in the busy summer months, so i dont think you will have any problems in receiving it back in time.

I got my passport back within 8 days and I didn't pay the extra money to have my documents checked at the post office or for the quicker response.  This was in June too so you should be ok!

If you click on profile at the top of this page and then go to 'Forum Profile Information' it gives you the option to upload your own picture. Click browse which will let you search on your own computer's hard drive or your own photo CD's for any photo's saved there, select one and click ok, it should appear in your profile.

You made need to resize the photo before this though as there is usually a size limit. Pictures can be easily resized in Paint a free drawing program that comes with windows, if you're still having problems let me know.

Joe - how does your mom get on living there over the winter? What's it like at that time of year ?

I'd love to be able to go down to the beach on Xmas day :)

Jill, many thanks, Its all looking good now and its always nice to have something to look forward to, let me know how you get on.

Hi Lozicle, Corfu is very different in winter, especially the weather (I think it snowed in January). When I saw Arillas in March I would never have believed that it would be ready for the tourist season in May, it looked so different, the sea was up to the road. There were hardly any shops open, just a couple of Taverna’s and the odd Restaurant (Thank god for Town Pizza in San Stefanos, which opened at weekends). It was all very traditional. To be honest the weather wasn't much better than here at that time of year, just a little sunnier, and its very damp as a lot of the new buildings are built for the heat, not the cold. You can go to the beach on Xmas day but you'll need gloves and a scarf. Its still wonderful in Winter but bear in mind there is practically nothing to do, of course this is heaven for some, not sure if I counld manage though, I'm to used to my 24hr Tesco and wireless internet unfortunately :-)

My mum loves it, don't see her ever coming back to the UK, would it be a holiday if she did?
Title: Re: Cheap flight
Post by: Lozicle on August 31, 2006, 02:09:38 PM
I don't think I'd mind that at all :)
The only thing that I would really miss is my broadband internet. I'm guessing that arillas doesn't have broadband ?

Joe, we arrived the last week in April, you still would never have believed it was going to be ready for the tourist season the following week!  But they pulled it off, working all  hours day and night, I suppose it's the same the world over once the Adrenalin sets in it's amazing what we can pull off :-)

I don't blame your mum for not coming back, I'm sure she is living life as it should be lived, hopefully I'll bump into her in September.

They must have worked miracles, I remember in San Stefanos, the new public footpath had not been finished and a couple of supermarkets had been knocked down so they could rebuilt and this was the end of March. It’s amazing how versatile everyone is, I wouldn't have a clue.

I don't think I'd mind that at all :)
The only thing that I would really miss is my broadband internet. I'm guessing that arillas doesn't have broadband ?

I did see a couple of signs for wireless internet but didn't have my laptop with me so don't know if it actually works. The 3W's bar in San Stefanos has fast Internet access, 5 euros for around 30 minutes, not bad, I used it to book flights in winter so it was a godsend.

More than likely they stopped their Friday flight on the 22nd September.

Fri 8th Sep, MAN-CFU, £52
Tues 12th Sep, CFU-MAN, £87 (very early morning flight)
Fri 8th Sep - Sat 16th Sep, CFU-MAN-CFU, £125 Fantastic price!

All the above prices are the price you pay, hope somebody gets a good deal here.
