Title: Hotel Marina or Mathraki Studios
Post by: DavidM on September 19, 2020, 11:42:10 AM
Which of these is the best option for my wife and myself (both in our 40s)? Hotel Marina is rated highly but has very few photos on there website or Tripadvisor of what the actual rooms are like. Price wise the apartments are slightly cheaper but the hotel includes breakfast.

The Marina is in the most perfect seafront position. I have stayed in the apartments and friends have stayed in the hotel. The breakfasts are supposed to be really good. You will have all the fabulous restaurants right on your doorstep too.

The Marina is perfect.  The rooms are not huge but kept spotless.  Vasilis and Anita are perfect hosts and the Taverna food is scrumptious.  Mathraki is great, so I've been told but a short walk from the beach whereas the Marina is right there.  Have always stayed at the Marina when we have been except a couple of years when we couldn't get in but that was back in the late 90's.  However, you'll never be disappointed in Arillas.

Pool and Pool Bar at the Marina is excellent too but I have heard the foods also great at Mathraki but I have only ever had a drink there .
Marina location couldn't be better but you can't go wrong with either,,,,, I believe its called a no lose situation 😂

We stayed at Mathraki studios this year. Lovely apartments.  Very clean and spacious.  Views best in the apartments on the top floor.  Thus year they were only doing snacks but what we had was delicious.  I suppose it depends on whether you want self catering unless Marina has self catering rooms. Had breakfast this year at Marina. Not doing their buffet like usual but it was delicious still and very good value.

I think your find that the lack of the buffet is because of the virus regulations and has to compulsory because everybody helps themselves out off the bowls using the serving spoons. Hopefully it will be back next year. Pete and I usually go right at the beginning off the season when it is served to your table and really enjoy that more. Really good breakfast.

Thank you for all the replies. Our mind has been made up as Hotel Marina is closed from the 30th September the day we arrive! Will there be many restaurants still open?

You will be ok but Negg's your best source of info here. Three taverna's , to my knowledge , stop open all year so you won't starve. I would have thought the majority are open early Ocober but we are in strange times 🙁

Off the top of my head.....
..... Brouklis , Beach Kostas , Grazella , Vinceremos , Thallasa , Armourada , Eftihia , Rainbow , Tria Adelphia , Hotel Marvel , Athina.. - If only 50% right then your choice is still good.

Even though your mind is made up i just wanted to add my little bit. The Mathraki have a brand new pool and it's adults only which makes it so peaceful and private. The Marina pool is across the road from the hotel which  is lovey although a lot busier as many non hotel residents use it. However I don't think you would be disappointed wherever you stay.
